Summary: A must read-read for kids 10 and up
Review: I am a teacher in a multi-aged classroom and as I am reading this book there is total silence as the kids immerse themselves in the story (what child has not been unjustly accused at some time in their life and has just dealt with it). That is Stanley's strength. The kids beg me daily not to stop so that it is test of wills between us,"Well, ok just one more chapter." I am looking forward more books of this caliber from Mr. Sachar

Summary: The "HOLE" Story
Review: I am a teacher of 3rd and 4th graders in the Mead School System in Spokane, WA. I began reading Holes aloud to my class during the first week of Jan. 2000. My class is absolutely mesmerized by this story, they simply cannot get enough. Sachar's insightful, humorous and touching story of Stanley Yelnats and Camp Green Lake has touched a literary chord in my class that I had never expected. Numerous children have bought the book themselves and are encouraging their parents to read it with them at home! A 5 star rating is not high enough for this story, it deserves even higher! Don't let anyone tell you that it's only appropriate for the "middle schooler" because I can testify that my students are enjoying this book more than any I've read aloud in the past 18 years! It's for people of ALL ages, I couldn't put it down myself!

Summary: Timeless Masterpiece
Review: I am a teen boy who has read "Holes" three times. I'm about to start on my fourth. It's just the greatest book of all time. There's no other way of putting it. Rich irony, meaningful drama, interconnecting storylines, superb writing...it's all here. The first time I read it, I didn't get the ending. Then, it just hit me like a ton of bricks. I was nearly moved to tears, and I will never forget that moment for as long as I live. I'd never been moved that deeply by a book, and I doubt that I ever will again.

Summary: Thinker
Review: I am a twelve year old girl and I found this story very good. It is about a boy who is wrongly accused of theift. He is sent to a boot camp where he is forced to dig a five foot hole every day. It's supposed to help him build charecter. He is told that if he finds anything while he is digging, he should tell the officials of the camp right away. He's looking for something but he doesn't know what. In this is a provocitive story that you should read.

Summary: Riveting, can't put it down, book.
Review: I am actually 29 but have been reading all things fiction since I learned the alphabet. You don't have to be a kid to enjoy this, it is a riveting, fascinating and quick read for adults as well. This is an excellent book about a boy who goes to a sort of juvenile detention center that the owners try to pass off as a "camp" where kids are forced to dig a hole five feet deep and five feet wide every single day early in the morning before the sun rises. He finds out that digging holes isn't just to build character, as the owner's seem to suggest, but there just may be a deeper meaning in those holes and a reason that the great great great grandson of the no good, good for nothing dirty rotten pig stealing ancestor should be there. If you like a story that surprises you and your kids, you'll love this one. I have read it to my nephews with rave reviews.

Summary: Excellent read aloud for the middle grades!
Review: I am an eighth grade language arts teacher who is constantly looking for good books to read to my students. This one had them hooked. Even my reluctant readers begged for more.

Summary: i loved it!
Review: I am Andrew Keller and I read holes in my language arts class. I thought it was a very exciting book and it is also such a good book that a teacher from my middle school said that it was one of her favorite book ever. It is a story about Stanley Yelnats and his troubles. One day he is walking and a famous pair of shoes land on his head. He soon goes to a detention camp where he will soon find out about his past and find the solution to all of his problems. I have also read a few other books by the same author (Louis Sachar) and though they were great. Everyone that I know that has read holes thought that it was a great book and so do I.

Summary: Get your students excited about reading again!
Review: I am currently a teacher at a middle school in Virginia. As many teachers today, I've had difficulty inspiring my students through reading. This book is the ticket! Not only are the students engaged in every word and every scene, but they are actively predicting events, making inferences, and generally "connecting the dots". Sachar has a gift for weaving a developmentally interesting story for middle schoolers by using their language and their culture. It's as if he is IN the mind of the these kids. I highly recommend this book to any student, teacher, parent, resource group, therapist, and/or specialist. High praise and applause to Louis Sachar! I anxiously await his next novel.

Summary: It is a great book.
Review: I am fourth-grader. I got the book as a Christmas present. I think it is very entertaining, except when it talks just about everyday life. The best part of the book is when Stanley Yelnats runs away to find Zero. The author tells the readers things that the characters don't know, and that makes for suspense. There is a lot of suspense at the end when you have to use your imagination to fill the "holes" in the story.

Summary: Great Book
Review: I am halfway through this book and I feel like I am entranced, captivated by this moody piece of literature. It earned a Newberry, all right. It is almost as good as the Harry Potter books!
