Summary: Great!
Review: I am a person who likes to read action and mysteries. At first when I saw the book I was thinking who wants to read about some holes? But that's not what this breath taking book is all about. It's about a boy who has to go to a camp. They ahve to go to the camp if you gotten in trouble or something. But they have to dig deep hole as deep as the shovel and as wide as the shovel. They have to take fast showers or else the water turns off. And worst of all, the camp is in the middle of nowhere. I'm not going to tell you any more than what I have. Because I would loose control and end up ruining it. I really highly recomend this book to anyone who likes to be able to sit down start to read and not want to put the book down. So really this book is for any one. Who likes to read of course. Thanks.

Summary: Reading this book builds Character not digging holes
Review: I am a prospective teacher from PA, and I must delcare that this was one of the most amazing childrens books I have ever read. It kept me turning the pages long into the midnight hours. I found that I finished the book in two sittings, it was that captivating. Now with that out of the way let me explain why I feel that this book deserves the 5 stars I have bestowed upon it.
Louis Sacher is a brilliant author who creates realistic and loveable characters, that I feel are easy enough for his target audience to relate to. The setting of the book puts the characters at every 14 year olds worst nightmare, Camp Green Lake. "There is no lake at Camp Green Lake. There once was a very large lake here, the largest lake in Texas."(Pg 1) The setting although fantastic, is actually quite believeable. This is ability to take fiction and make it identifiably real is one of my favorite qualities about Sachers writing style.
Sacher leads his main character Stanley Yelnats into a wildly imaginative plot. Although the plot may seem simple there are many surprise revelations woven throughout, like what onion juice is for, and what the mystery initials mean.
I felt that although there were dual stories, you could always find the relationship from one to the other. The major dramatic question that prevails through the novel is "Whats the real reason for the kids to dig holes?". The warden feels that digging holes builds character, but Stanley knows that theres something there supposed to be looking for. I think it is amazing that Sacher uses his disbelief to fuel the readers into questioning the warden as well.
The book flows very naturally there are never dull moments, and yet you never feel overwhelmed. I feel that the pacing is perfect. And along with that I feel that Sacher puts Irony and Humor to great use with the nick-names of the boys at camp. I like that Armpit is called this because "He smells like an armpit", and Zero is nick-named because "Theres nothing inside his head."
I feel that this book is great for demonstrating the bond of friendship, comradary, and the importance of believing in yourself. I would use it in class to teach a lesson on morals, and the ideas of right and wrong. There are so many characters that battle with these ethic concepts that it would be a cinch for children to identify and elaborate on them.
Lastly, I feel that there isnt a child out there that wouldnt be captivated by this book. Theres just something about Holes that makes you feel part of the story. You dont just read about the characters you fall in love with them, and you dont just know about Camp Green Lake, you feel like your really there. I hope that you have as much fun reading this book as I did. Oh.....and watch out for the lizards!

Summary: An imaginative, rich and original book.
Review: I am a public librarian, and I read "Holes" because it is a Newbery Award winner and because Sachar has an excellent track record. "Holes" is a work of "magical realism" which intertwines fantasy and reality in a completely inventive way. Children will read it on one level and young adults will read the book on a higher level. A few of the many themes that "Holes" deals with are the pain of loss, the connection between generations, the resiliency of children and the power of love to help people overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles. The book is not for very young children, since there are frightening scenes of death and violence. I would recommend it for mature children ages 13 and up.

Summary: Awe snap this book rocked
Review: I am a reader who could not find a very good book to read. Then my friend told me about Holes. At first I thought this book stunk. I looked at it and thought, wow a guy who digs holes every day so I thought I would be wasting my time. But no I ended up reading it and loved it so much I finished it in 4 days. I recommend this book to everyone and I know that you will love it. I liked this book because i would always want to find out more every night before I went to bed. This book was well written and I liked how Stanley cared so much about his friends he would give his life for his friends. If you want a book to read than read Holes by Louis Sachar.

Summary: Even Lower Readers Love The Zany Caveman!
Review: I am a special education teacher for a middle school. I used this book along with the unabridged audio tape to increase my students litening skills. They could not wait to here of the zany happenings of the main character Stanley. His nickname at the detention center is caveman. It is great seeing how a group of boys interact when they are in the most trying of places and how they all stick together. You will never guess the ending and can't wait to get there. My students hated when I had to turn off the tape. I recommend this book for all middle school aged students and the audio book is very well done.

Summary: My thoughts on Holes
Review: I am a student at Thomas E. Weightman middle school, and I have never imagined reading a book like Holes. Holes is a book about a boy named Stanley Yelnats, who supposedly has a great-great pig-stealing grandfather, that put a curse on Stanley's family. Well, one day Stanley was walking under a bridge when something hit him on the head. Suprise, suprise,it was a pair of shoes. It was the same pair of shoes that Clyde Livingston donated to help a charity raise money. When police officers finally caught up with Stanley, and saw that he had the missing shoes, they sent him to a boy's juvineal detention center at Camp Green Lake. When he got there he found out that the camp isn't green and that there is no lake. Read the book to find out what happens in the end.

Summary: Holes is the worst book I've ever read!
Review: I am a student at Waldron Mercy Academy (ACLJ). This book is about a 10 year old boy called Stanley Yelnats who goes to a boot camp called Camp Green Lake. This boy got sent to this boot camp because he stole a famous baseball player's shoe. There was 5 tents(A,B,C,D,E) and no lake. Stanley was sent to tent D. At their tent the kids had nicknames. His nickname was Caveman. They had a conselor named Mom. And a boy named Zero. They dug holes 5 feet deep, 5 feet long. There was another story about Stanley's rotten, pig-stealing, no good grandfather. He wanted to marry a women. So he stole Madame Zeroni's pig but the other guy got a fatter pig and married the women. But Stanley finds out that Zero's real name is Hector Zeroni. And then the boot camp shuts down and Hector goes home with Stanley. Even though it sound like I liked the book I really hated it.

Summary: Holes
Review: I am a student at Waldron Mercy Academy (I.F.G.) Holes takes place in the middle of the desert. The desert is were you meet Stanley, the main character. Stanley is a round boy, with a pale body. The police transported him to a camp in middle of the desert. This camp is no summer vacation. This camp is for bad kids doing awful actions. His mother, THINKING he stole a pair of rare sneakers, forces Stanley there. At the camp, Stanley meets a lot of friends, one of them was named Zero. Through the book, Stanley teaches Zero how to read and write, though near the end, Stanley finds out Zero has a connection with Stanley's wrong act, but how? Read this imagitive book to find out much, much more. If you like a little mix between comedy and action, this is a required book to read.

Summary: Dig Those Holes
Review: I am a student at Waldron Mercy Academy.(KMM) Stanley Yelnats is a 12 year old boy who is way over weight for his age. Also Stanley does not have many nice friends. Actually Stanley douse not have any friends. Stanley was all ways getting picks on by a kid who was smaller and younger than him. Also Stanley was not good and I mean not good at any sports.
Well, one day when Stanley was walking home with a sopping wet notebook that had just been dunked in the toilet when a pair of a famous basketballs players's shoes fall on his head. At this time Stanley did not know that the shoes were worth a copious amounts of money. Well, after that Stanley gets caught with the shoes by the police. After that incident Stanley has to go to court. When Stanley goes to court he has choice either to go to jail or go to camp Green Lake in Teas. Well, Stanley pick camp Green Lake. When Stanley gets to camp Green Lake he find out that he has to dig holes 5ft deep and 5ft wide. I would hate that if that happened to me! After a few mounts when Stanley is digging his hole he finds a gold that have the letters KB. Stanley tries to find out what this means throughout the book . To find out what this gold tube means read the book "Holes." I really liked this book because it was well written. Also I liked this bok is that I got a good picture in my mind about what the writer was saying. That is why I really liked this book . I would recommend this book to any 4-6 grader for a good read.

Summary: Holes
Review: I am a teacher candidate at West Virginia State College and this was a wonderful book to read. I literally finished it in four hours. It is one of those books that keeps you wandering. There is always something interesting to find out in each page. I recommend this book to adults as well as children since it has an important meaning behind it that we all can relate to. Sometimes bad luck is just a disguise for good luck.
