Rating: Summary: Do yourself a favor and read Holes Review: Holes is the only book I have read more than twice. It is also the only book my parents didnt have to beg me to read, I did on my own. Holes is my all time favorite book. I like this book because it has all the different types of characters a good novel needs. It has the "new kid", jerks, punks, bullies, and the one kid who is different amongst the rest, who dare not speak to anyone. Holes has a good point to it, it took me two times to read it to know what hit me because it was so good. No its not just about a kid digging holes. It is about an innocent kid named "Stanley Yelnats" which is his name backwards, and he is innocent, but sent off to a Camp Green Lake. All for walking down the street. At Camp Green Lake there is no lake. Nothin but dry dessert, and shanties made into cabins. The kids at this camp arent only digging holes for discipline, but the camp owners are looking for something. I dont want to spoil the fun so do me, you, and the whole world a favor and REAS HOLES!!!

Rating: Summary: Holes: Digging for something Deep Review: Holes is the quintessential tale of a young boy, accused of theft, and the challenges that await him as he is a "camper" at Camp Green Lake. It is almost the Shawshank Redemption for the young-aged audience. Boy convicted of crime, boy pays for crime, boy goes to correctional facility, boy makes friends, warden is a corrupt person, boys has mental and physical hardships, the usual story. Holes is appealing to children because of its fast pace excitement and humor, but adults also like it because of its values, themes and morals that could reflect that of modern society. Holes is a book that would be aimed at the 8 to 14 age range because its keeps their interest throughout the book. The literary elements that are most frequent and popular are its plot and character development. Holes contains all the appropriate plot elements, the rising action, the climax, falling action, and conclusion (even though it was a little weak). Another aspect of the book that keeps it interesting is the way the characters are. The characters are so different in their personalities, appearance, and attitude. The book was an enjoyable one to read because of its feel-good aspect. You could only root for the 'good guys' and hope that everything came out all right. At one point or another, the book would be hitting all cylinders, and captured every audience member in its magic.

Rating: Summary: Fun, but could use some polish Review: Holes is the story of Stanley Yelnats, who finds himself in a juvenile bootcamp after being convicted of a crime he did not commit. An overweight and socially inept boy, Stanley at first has a hard time in the camp, but eventually makes friends with the boys with whom he shares the dry lakebed and hole-digging project. It is with these boys that Stanley will undertake adventures, misadventures, and eventually an Odyessy-like journey through both the desert and his own coming-of-age soul.Holes is definitely a fun story, with something for every type of reader. Stanley's interaction with his friends at camp is sometimes touching and often funny. The actions of the warden, who purposefully gives a non-lethal, but intensely painful, dose of snake venom to one of the camp counselors, will give a thrill to those readers who like suspense and action. Stanley's journey through the desert to find and rescue his friend has a literary quality that is almost lyrical and will arose a spark of fond remembrance for those who enjoyed Homer's Odyessy. And the shutting down of the camp by the lawyer, who is working for Stanley's father to help patent an invention, will give satisfaction to readers who desire a happy ending all around. However, it is also this same 'something for everyone' type of story that gives the book a very first-draft feeling. In turns the story is beautiful, sarcastic, innocent, and brutally violent. It just doesn't go altogether. Each turn in tone makes the reader feel that they have been jarred out of this book and into some other. One wonders if it hasn't been written to appeal to adults and children, in an attempt to capture a larger market share. It must be nice for an author when that happens, but in this case it was just too forced and made the book feel rough and unpolished. Children will probably not be very aware of this in the book, so perhaps this is still a good read for them. I would definitely caution parents to read this book for themselves, though, before giving it over to their children. There is some brutal violence in this book, and parents will need to know it and gauge whether it is appropriate for their child.
Rating: Summary: Holes Review: HOLES IS THE WORST BOOK I'VE EVER READ! I am a student at Waldron Mercy Academy (ACLJ). This book is about a boy called Stanley Yelnats who goes to a boot camp called Camp Green Lake. This boy got sent to this boot camp because he stole a famous baseball player's shoe. There was 5 tents(A,B,C,D,E) and no lake. Stanley was sent to tent D. At their tent the kids had nicknames. His nickname was Caveman. They had a conselor named Mom. And a boy named Zero. Now I tell you their punishments. They dug holes 5 feet deep, 5 feet long. There was another story about Stanley's rotten,pig-stealing,no good grandfather. He wanted to marry a women. So he stole Madame Zeroni's pig but the other guy got a fatter pig and married the women. But Stanley finds out that Zero's real name is Hector Zeroni. And then the boot camp shuts down and Hector goes home with Stanley. Even though it sound like I liked the book I really hated it.
Rating: Summary: The book "Holes" in my eyes Review: Holes is written by Louis Sachar and was published in 1998. This special versin of the novel costs $6,50 (USA-Version). This version is a bit more difficult then the English version, because you don't have got a vocab help like in the English version. It is written in an easy English and so it is for everybody understandable. The book is written in a modern style and links two stories in one book. (montage) I find the book realy exciting! The novel is not a fiction, but a possible story and so the reader will have a closer connection to the book. The novel is about a boy, who is send to a camp for an innocent crime. This "camp" is not realy a camp. It is a kind of boot camp. The boy, who is called Stanley, has to dig every day one hole. The boys in the camp have to dig for a special reason, but they don't know the reason. Later, it will get realy exciting. Stanley will notices about his past and his future in this camp.
Rating: Summary: A Great Read Review: Holes keeps you interested all the way through, much like The Adventures Of Archie Reynolds and the classic Treasure Island. It's not quite as action oriented as those books, but it's still a great read. I strongly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: The Truth Review: Holes may be about digging holes, but it's about something else to. It's about a boy who learns alot about himself and finds strength inside, where others did not. I recommend this book to those who like to read. If you don't like to read you may not like it.
