Rating: Summary: A unique blend of mystery and humor Review: Holes is one of the best books i have ever read. It is an enticing mystery with a unique plot that comes together at the end. Stanley Yelnats is the main character who is under a curse that began with his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing great-great-grandfather. Stanley ends up at Camp Green Lake for a crime he did not commit. Here he runs into many unique characters. His friends at Camp Green Lake are all interesting and relatable characters. There is "Zero" who is a nobody, "ZigZag" who changes all the time and finally "magnet" who steals or picks up things from others. Throughout the book Sacher makes the reader believe this Camp Green Lake might actually exist. His details about the Camp are flawless. He makes you believe that the warden can get away with having boys dig holes everyday for their character devolpement. The pacing of this book is also perfect. Sacher weaves in the plot lines with excellent timing. Just when you start to wonder about the plot he throws in another hint towards figuring out the mystery. Finally Sacher's style of writing is unparalleled. His sentences flow together and keep you at the edge of your seat. You never know when Stanley's curse from his no-good-diry-rotten-pig-stealing great-great-grandfather is going to affect him. By the end of the book the reader is hooked to see if Stanley will uncover the mystery of Camp Green Lake. I would recommend this book to almost everyone. You can be young or old, male or female, it doesn't matter there is some part of the book you can relate too. If you like a little mystery this is perfect for you. There is also a lot of dark humor in the book. There are two major themes to the book. The first one is how destiny can affect a persons life. If Stanley had not caught the sneakers, he would have never discoverd the mystery at Camp Green Lake and end up where he is at the end of the book. The other theme is the importance of friendship. Stanley starts out as a loner but as the book progresses you see an amazing friendship grow. At the end of the book stanley is a loving person with an amazing friendship that changed his life. There is no reason to not read this book. The literay merit of this book is incredible and irreplaceable characters make it all the better.

Rating: Summary: A review of Holes Review: Holes is one of the best books I've ever read before in my life. I've already read it twice and am starting throough it agian for a third time. I never really liked reading but I heard about this book and it sounded interesting. I started reading and I couldn't even put the book down! I normally get bored with a book after about 10 minutes but Holes was one that I just had to get through. I'm normally a very slow reader and it will take me almost a month to finish a book but I finished Holes in less then a week. I highly recommend this book! It's like a jigsaw puzzle for your mind, the way that the events that took place over 100 years ago tie in with the events of the future, and how it all began with Stanley Yelnats' (Take note that Stanly Yelnats is a spelled the same way frontward and backword, there's a special name for things that are like that but the name escapes my mind right now), no good, dirtty, rotten, pig stealing great-great grandfather. Anyone who doesn't read this book is missing out on a great story full of mystery, exitment, adventure, and many cliff hangers. Buy it or check it out from your local library today! Don't delay!-By Chris, age-14
Rating: Summary: THE BEST!! Review: Holes is one of the best books I've ever read, ranking even with Harry Potter. The plot is really interesting. I mean, did you think that someone would ever write a book about digging holes? Well, this book is. Stanley Yelnats, (I like his name--If you didn't already notice, Yelnats is Stanley backwards) a middle-schooler and a member of a cursed family with absolutely no luck,is arrested and falsley accused of stealing a famous athlete's shoes from a homeless shelter. The shoes were valued at over $5,000. The judge called Stanley's crime "dispicable", and was appaled that anyone would be so mean as to steal from the homeless. The judge gave him two choices: "You may go to jail, or you may go to Camp Green Lake." Since Stanley has never gone to camp before, he decides to go to Camp Green Lake, a juvenile correctional facility. There is no lake at Camp Green Lake. It's just a big flat wasteland. At Camp Green Lake, Stanley and all the other campers must dig a hle five feet deep and five feet wide, in the hot sun. (At Camp Green Lake, the temperature hovers around 95 degrees in the shade.) All the while Stanley blames his no-good-dirdty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather for his bad luck. At camp, all the kids have weird nicknames, including X-Ray, Armpit, ZigZag, Magnet and Zero. They christen him Caveman. Stanley's counceler, Mr. Pendanski (pen-dance-key) told Stanley, "There's only one rule here: don't upset the Warden." Stanley makes friends with Zero, (Hector Zeroni) and only at the end do they realize how they are connected. I loved the way Louis Sachar wrote this book. Her writing is extremely unique. It entrances your mind, and makes you think of many things differently. (You may find that the events that occur have to do with destiny.) I liked the book so much that I read it three times. I think that they should make a movie, but I don't think there could be a sequel to Holes. The way it's written covers everything important, though I suppose Sachar could write a book on the previus and later lives of Stanley's fellow campers. She could also write the story of Kate Barlow, an outlaw that lived 100 years ago who is very important in the plot.
Rating: Summary: I DIG this book!!!!!!!!! Review: Holes is one of the best books I've read. I didn't know it was going to be that good of a book before I read it. I finished it the same day I started it because it was that good,I had to stay up past midnight to finish it but I didn't care because I was reading the best book ever and I couldn't possibly put it down. I love to read and I like almost all the books I read, but Holes is my favorite. I hope Louis Sachar comes out with another book like Holes because Holes is a great book!!

There were no fences because if you try to run away you will die because there is no civilization for about 20 hours away. Will stanly run away. Read the Book To find out!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Read carefully!!! Review: Holes is one of the most amazing, most intricate books that I have ever read. When you read it, you have to be sure to notice every little bit of information, right down to the story of Stanley Yelnats' no-good-dirty-rotton-pig-stealing-grandfather. Even pay attention to the facts about the yellow-spotted lizards. If you don't remember everything, you will get horribly lost in this book. But even if you don't remember everything, the book is still awesome.
Rating: Summary: Five feet wide, Five feet Deep, and Five Stars all around. Review: HOLES is one of those books were humor, writing, and emotion all mix together. Shoes, shovels, pigs, and even onions all provide clues for the filling and collected ending. Worth any price.
