Rating: Summary: Review by Juicy Catoure Review: Holes is an awesome book, about the not-so-ordinary life of a not-so-ordinary boy- Stanley Yelnats. As Sachar wrote the book being a story-within-a-story-within-a-story,it has a lot of interesting connections within the characters, and their actions. My favorite charcater was Kate Barlow, because she has a mind of her own, and she isn't afraid of what people think of her, as long as she gets to think what she wants. I miss reading this book in class, and as Sam would say.."I can fix that."I loved Sachar's way of writing this trio of stories and generations, and it was one of my favorite books that I have ever read. I hope that whoever reads this book enjoys it as much as I did!

Rating: Summary: Easy read for the long summer days Review: Holes is an easy yet interesting read for those long summer days that await you. While the language is simple and does not need much concentration, the plot is woven wonderfully, pulling things that had seemed to be of no importance into a knot at the end. In Holes, three stories of three different times are included. There is a boy, Stanley Yelnats, who was wrongly accused of a crime and sent to Camp Green Lake to make him a "good boy." There is a gypsy, pigs, mountains, a beautiful girl (with a head as empty as a flowerpot). There is a curse when promises are not fulfilled. There is a black man, who is punished for kissing a white woman. There is the outlaw Kissin' Kate Barlow, who steals a man's riches, kills him, and then kisses him. In this book issues such as racism, morals, and justice are addressed in a way that is not boring to children yet is interesting for older readers to pick up on. Fantastic book. Recommended for all ages.
Rating: Summary: WOW; AMAZING Review: Holes is an easy, exciting and fast read. I could not put it down. The scenic descriptions were terrific. My students also loved the book. One had commented that " I wish the book kept writing itself, so that it would be longer, when you put it down." Hey, I would not mind if this book was the never ending story, or maybe a little bit longer. While the brief chapters make this book perfect for a third grader, an adult would love this book for pleasure reading.
Rating: Summary: Even though it's an easy-to-read book, it's very good Review: Holes is an easy-to-read book, but that doesn't mean it isn'tgood. Holes really helps to find yourself, because it is a book abouta boy who finds out who he is the hard way. Everything is important in this book, so it is a good idea to look for connections through the many flashbacks it has. If you do that while reading, you will enjoy it more. I reccommend anyone should read Holes. There are so many morals in it, and at the same time it is very enjoyable. As soon as you get finished reading it, I think you will see why I like it so much. END
Rating: Summary: Fun times, sad times Review: Holes is an emotional book that makes you think about life and justice in life. I thoroughly enjoyed it from page 1. I couldn't stop reading it! I skipped supper, reading Mr. Sachar's flowing words and throbbing dialect. A must for kids (and of course adults!) ages 9 and up. It's a book that everyone will love, laugh and cry with. I VERY STRONGLY reccomend it!
Rating: Summary: I LIKE HOLES Review: Holes is an entertaining book about a boy named Stanley Yelnats who gets sent to a hard-working, hazardous camp. Everyday Stanley and his fellow inmates each have to dig a perfect hole for their bad behavior. At this camp, Stanley makes new friends and goes through many difficult situations. After a few encounters, Stanley begins to think something suspicious is going on. I wasn't too thrilled about reading this book in the beginning because of the book cover and setting; it didn't seem very interesting or adventurous. The story takes place on a bus in the desert so I thought the book would be very monotonous. After the first few chapters, the book got more and more exciting and I couldn't put it down. This is a great story so don't judge this book by its cover. When I read this book I noticed that Louis Sachar puts many imaginative and strong images in this book. I could really picture myself as the characters in the book. I also found out that characters in this book are easy to relate to. I noticed that Zero is very similar to many of us. He is a person that doesn't talk much but once Stanley got to know him, two strangers became best friends. They also learned many characteristics about each other that they would have never discovered if they never got to know each other. Louis indicates many themes to me as I read the book. In the end I think his primary point is that we should never give up on our goals. Stanley went out into the desert with an unthinkable and what seemed impossible objective. His goal was to return back at camp alive with Zero, and when he found Zero they never gave up. Together with their objective in mind, they didn't give up even when there was barely any hope left. The ending of this book was very pleasing and I wouldn't have it any other way. This award-winning book is fantastic for all ages, 10 and above. Holes is the most breathtaking and adventurous book I have ever read. If you enjoy this book you might also enjoy Hatchet.
Rating: Summary: Holes By Louis Sachar Review: Holes is an excellant book that I would highly reccomend. It's about a young boy who is mistreated at school, and his family can bearly afford to pay rent. Stanley Yelnats is wrongly accused of stealing a pair of shoes owned by a famous basketball player that were being auctioned off to benefit a homeless shelter. His parents were unable to afford a lawyer; so, he went to court without one. His punishment, for being proven guilty, was "Camp Green Lake", a boot camp. After a while Stanley finally figures out how important true friendships really are, but does Stanley get out of Camp Green Lake alive? Can he figure out the mystery of Camp Green Lake? To find out, read this book.
Rating: Summary: Holes Review: Holes is an excellent book about troubled boys who are sent to Camp GreenLake to "build character" but you soon find out the truth! I like how they switched the time periods to relate to the story at hand. I would reccomened this novel to both young and old people alike.
