Life for Stanley Yelnats is not easy. He was walking along one day when all of a sudden, a pair of shoes fell from the sky. Stanley had to go to court because someone found him with the shoes. Even though Stanley told them the truth about the shoes, no one believed him. The shoes belonged to some famous person. Stanley didn't know this and he was found guilty. For his punishment, the judge told him that he would have to go to Camp Green Lake. Camp Green Lake is a place where children go if they have done something bad. When Stanley got to the camp, he asked, "Where's the lake?" Everyone laughed. There was no lake at Camp Green Lake. Was there one before? Everyday the kids have to dig a hole that is exactly five feet wide and five feet deep. Why? Is the warden looking for something? Will Stanley ever get out of Camp Green Lake? Why is there no lake? You'll have to read the book to find out.
I recommend Holes to any one that likes a darkly humorous book of crime. There are some funny parts in the book, and it has many different kinds of characters. I loved this book. Even though it's fiction, I think that it teaches to keep on trying. I think this book teaches you that lesson because Stanley kept on trying to figure out what was going on and he kept on trying to escape. I also think this book tells you to stand up for yourself. I think this because Stanley told the truth and even though he had to go to Camp Green Lake he still kept on saying that he was innocent. Why? I think that he did this because he was brave. He was brave because he wasn't scared of being punished even more when they didn't believe him. This is my favorite book and I hope it will be yours too.

Are you searching for a book with adventure and excitement? If so you should read this book. Holes takes place in the middle of the summer in Greenlake, Texas. The main character is Stanley Yelnats who is always in the wrong place at the wrong time. The problem is that he has to go to Camp Greenlake which is like a military camp.
I liked this book because it was exciting and thrilling throughout the whole book. I thought the book was interesting and when I read it it made me feel how hard it would have been if I had to go to Camp Greenlake. I think that all the suspense in the book is what makes it so special. I'm recommending this book because it is awesome and I would rate it a 10. If you are
a kid who is always getting in trouble then you should read this book.

Review: Holes

"My name is Stanley Yelants. I got put into Camp Green Lake because I was accused of stealing a famous baseball player called Sweet Feet's shoes. I really didn't do it though. When I got to camp Green Lake I noticed that there wasn't a lake there at all. It was a desert for miles and miles. I was told that there used to be a lake there. There were no fences, no gates or anything to stop me from running away. The reason was because there wasn't any water for miles and miles. Camp Green Lake had the only water. While I was at camp I met all the kids in my group, but there was one kid in it everybody called Zero, he didn't say much. His name was Zero because they said that he had nothing in his head. When we went out in the burning hot desert to did our holes he would always finish first. It took me a while to get used to it so I was really slow. The holes had to be as deep and as wide as your shovel all the way around the hole. Zero had seen me reading and writing a letter from and to my family. Zero didn't know how to read or write so he asked me if I could teach him. At first I said no because I had no time to do it. Then we talked and worked out a deal. It was that if he helped me dig part of my hole I would teach him to read and write. Zero and I had become pretty close friends. That went on for a while until Zero got mad because the workers who ran the camp were making fun of him because he wasn't smart. Zero ran away. I wasn't sure what I should do. After a couple of days I decided to go after Zero. That is when the big adventure began."
This book is the best book I have ever read. I usually don't want to read, but this book made me want to keep reading. Holes kept me excited all throughout the book.
I recommend Holes to anybody who likes an exciting book that is suspenseful and makes the reader want to keep reading.

Summary: Stanley Yelnats finds himself digging at Camp Green Lake
Review: HOLES BY LOUIS SACHAR Digging, digging, digging, until the 5' wide 5' deep hole is done, a water truck stopping by periodically. Hot, sweating, thirsty, digging. Boys, digging, on a dried up lake far in the deserts of Texas, 100 miles away from the nearest town. One of the diggers, Stanley Yelnats, struck something picked it up and gave to X-ray, just like X-ray had told him to do. Stanley was falsely accused of stealing a baseball players shoes when they "fell out of the sky", or a bridge above him. He was sent to Camp Green Lake, a dried up desert lake where bad boys go to build character by digging, holes. But when Stanley finds a gold tube and the warden of the camp, the head of the camp (Mr.Sir) and Stanley's group leader Mr. Pendanski("mom") make a big deal about Stanley's find( They all think that it is X-ray's find) Stanley begins to wonder if the boys are digging for character, or something else. This story is all about how Stanley survives camp and the truth behind Green Lake. I like this book because it was well written, and many parts of the story were linked, and you had to pick them out. I disliked one of the characters, the Warden. She was mean, cruel and uncaring. This was a great book and I would recommend it to 6th graders and up. KateyJohnson=)
