Rating: Summary: Awesome Book! ;-) Review: Have you ever met someone who was cursed because their great-great grandfather stole a pig from a one legged gypsy? Well Stanley Yelnats, The main character in Holes, is cursed for that exact reason. Because of the curse, Stanley is always followed by unfortunate events. Because of the curse, Stanley is always at the wrong place at the wrong time. Because of the curse, Stanley has to ding lots of holes. When I first saw the cover of the book Holes, I thought it was about craters on the moon. I was very wrong. In the story Holes, Stanley is sent to Camp Green Lake. Camp Green Lake is a juvenile work camp for boys. Stanley is really innocent of the crime in which he was convicted for. At Camp Green Lake, each camper has to dig a hole everyday. The campers ae supposedly digging for character. Then they figure out the warden, the woman in charge of the camp, is looking for something, and that they are digging for it. But what is the warden looking for? Stanley and his best friend Zero try to figure out what the warden is looking for, and their search turns into a journey of a lifetime. In the book, Stanley has a nickname. His nickname is Caveman. There are other campers with nicknames too, such as Zero, Armpit, Squid, and Twith. I have a nickname of my own. My nickname is Crash. My dad gave me this nickname because I am a klutz, tripping and falling. At first I didn't like my nickname. After I got used to my nickname, I learned to laugh at it. Holes is full of exitement and mystery. Once you pick it up and start reading you will be hypnotized by it's plot, unable to put it down. I have read this book over and over, and I love it everytime. You may want to read it right now and you might have some questions about it. You will just have to read it and fill in the holes yourself.
Rating: Summary: A student from Visalia California Review: Have you ever read Holes? If not I am going to tell you about it. I really liked it because it was about a boy that got in trouble at school and got detention. He was walking home and suddenly some shoes fell of the sky. It was from a guy that had stole a professional baseball player shoes. And the police catched him with the shoes. So he got sent to court. The judge told him to choose one or to go to prison or go to camp. He chooses to go to camp but he did not know that he never isn't coming back home. That was an spectacular book.

Rating: Summary: Holes Review: Have you ever thought that want to change into a gracious person? If you have, I recommend a place for just like you. There was the largest beautiful lake in Texas. However, now, there is no lake, just dry and flat wasteland. This place is called Camp Green Lake. Camp Green Lake works as a jail. Stanley Yelnats is suspected that he stole a premium sneaker, but he is innocent. Actually, the Yelnats's have a curse because of his " no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grand father." Therefore, Stanley always gives up because of a curse. When he gets troubles or difficulties, he thinks just "I am in the wrong place at the wrong time." Moreover, Stanley has to go the Camp Green Lake. Then Stanley makes friends, Zero, Zigzag, X-ray, Squid, Magnet, Armpit. They were forced to dig five feet holes every single day by their boss. Her name is the Warden. The purpose of Camp Green Lake is to change their personality from a naughty boy to a well-mannered boy. However, maybe there is another purpose too. When they find something, they have to tell the Warden. Stanley finds a strange tube, and then the Warden is anxious. So, they were suspicious about her, why are they digging holes? Holes was written by Louis Sachar in 1998. This story is very superior. The friendship and fate of Yelnats and Zero are described splendidly. Also, the destiny of Yelnats is in this story. The story is almost puzzles. There are some interesting stories about Stanley's great grandfather, and Stanley. So, there are different time orders in this book. When you read the book first, you will be just a little bit confused. However, while you read the book, you can match everything that is confusing. When I was reading "Holes," I was fascinated and learned how important friendship is. Also, the reader can enjoy characters emotions. They sometimes fight and make great relationships; even we can watch the treachery or the human being's unsightly feeling. Each incident is described very clearly. I promise you will like this book. Let's go to the Camp Green Lake and make real friends and learn about difficult living as a human being.

Everything bade that happend they blamed it on their no good dirty rotten pig stealing great great grandfather.I think it was when you get in a mess you like to blame it on someone else and it might make you feel better. If you havent alredey read this book I sugest you read it.
Rating: Summary: Complete a Car Trip w/o hearing "Are We There Yet?" Review: Having already read the story a year prior: We listened to Holes on our trip to California (and again on our way back.) We had trouble even stopping at rest stops - especially if we were at an interesting part in the story! Too bad that it was only 4 1/2 hours of story and 7 hours of trip!
Rating: Summary: A well written book Review: Having seen "Holes", by Louis Sachar in many classrooms, I was drawn to read it. I am glad I did. Holes is the story of Stanley Yelnats who seems to have inherited some rather bad luck. It is a story of self discovery with a little family history thrown in. As much as the story, however, I enjoyed the craft of the book. Mr. Sachar has written a 'textbook' book, with foreshadowing, irony and enough twists and turns to make you forget you are reading this 'for school'. He gives a lot to discuss as well as a lot to savor! I was as pleased with the way this book was written as I was with the story itself. Read it for fun if you don't have to read it 'for school'! PS. If you like this one, try "A Separate Peace" by John Knowles, another book I had to read 'for school' that I just loved!
