Summary: Holes
Review: When Stanley Yelnats was accused of stealing some shoes, he was given a choice to choose Camp Green Lake or jail. He chose Camp Green Lake because he had never been to camp before. There he had to dig holes all day long. He made a friend named Zero. When Zero runs away, Stanley went after him. He remember that his grandpa had told him he had survived because of God's thumb, so he took Zero up the mountain and they drank from the water and ate the onions. By doing this, he doesn't only save himself, but breaks the family and Camp Green Lakes curse set over 100 years ago. Holes is very interesting; I loved it!!! It had a lot of interesting accounts about Stanley's life, and how he survived in Camp Green Lake. My favorite part of the book is when Stanley got the water truck and he began to yell with happiness. When he wasn't looking, he fell into a hole, and he ran looking for Zero. One thing I learned from this story is to help other. In the story Stanley helped Zero learn how to read , and later he helped Zero by rescuing him. I would recommend this book to all my family because I really liked it .-Maria Garcia

Summary: MY HOLES REVIEW!
Review: When the class started reading holes, Louis said that stanley had to go to Camp Green Lake for the summer, and I thought that was good because a lot can happen at a camp. One strong point that encouraged me to read more was that Louis kept going into different characters lives, and i wanted to know the outcome. But one weak point was with Mary Lou in the bathing suit. One other strong point was most of the characters went to camp with some problems, but went home with better lives. See if Sachar can fill in your holes!

Summary: Camp Green Lake
Review: when was the last time you were attached? Attached that you couldn't put it down because it was really good? That is what you would feel when you read Holes. This book review is about the book Holes. The authour of Holes is Louis Sachar. His other books are the Way Side School series. holes got a John NewBerry medal because of its astonding literture for childern.

This book is about a boy at adetention camp. The boys name is Stanley. He was framed by stealing a pair of old worn out shoes that belonged to a famous baseball player. The shoes were up for auction. After Stanley was finished with his trial he chose to go to camp green lake, a detention camp. In the middle of nowhere he's never had any friends in his whole life until he to to camp. Stanley had to dig holes for 18 months and that is why Holes is the name of the book.

Imagine yourself in Stanley's shoes. There was no water within 100 miles from the camp. You also had to dig holes 5 feet long. You would have to wake up at 4:oo am in order to beat the hard part of the day. How would you feel? Would you be sorry for yourself? I know that I would feel pretty bad.

Review: When we saw the previews of the movie on Channel 1, we thought it would be great to see. We came up with the idea to read the book in Mr. de la Cerda's class and we did. After finishing the book, we took a field trip to theater and saw the movie. We liked the book and loved the movie!!! A must read and see!!!!!!

Summary: THE MYSTERY BEHIND THE JEWELS
Review: When you read the story HOLES you will be a little shocked because it has a gold ribbon. In the beginning,it will be very boring. As you read on,it will get a little more interesting. When they take you back in the past, you will wish the story was only about the past and not the past and present. When you read there will be things you do not understand, but Louis Sachar fills in your HOLES IF ONLY IF ONLY YOU UNDERSTAND!

Summary: holes
Review: When you think of Camp Green Lake what do you think of ? Well if you think of fun and exciting things at Camp Green Lake guess what? It is the complete opposite. This book is very interesting because a teenager named Stanley Yelnats is accused of stealing an old pair of shoes, and got penalized for 18 months at Camp Green Lake. How important are the shoes? Since Stanley was penalized for stealing, he has to dig holes 5 feet wide and 5 feet deep, can he take the heat of the sun? Can he survive the yellow-spotted lizards? Some kids are at Camp Green Lake for so long they call Mr. Pedanski "mom". If one of the kids finds something interesting they will get the day off and two showers. If you read this book you will read about interesting things. Why are the kids digging the holes? Read and you will find out.

Summary: Proceed with caution
Review: While I find most of this book to be a delightful tale of disgrace and then redemption, I am more than a little concerned with the depiction of some of the characters, and the oversimplification of the very sensitive subject of racism in this book. The scenes that dealt most directly with race appeared from out of nowhere, and left me as a reader feeling confused and browbeaten by the author himself. Why were they there? why at that time? how was it to help me understand the characters anymore? These and many other questions leave me feeling discomforted. The author presents the stereotypes and the issues/problems, but does not seek in any way to point to any sort of resolution in the mind of the reader. While an adult may have no problems with this task, I doubt that a child would be able to do this on their own. I would suggest reading this text before handing it off to a child as a gift, and maybe even reading it with them to help them through the difficult parts of the text that the author lays before us, but then chooses not to really deal with.

Summary: Real Literature on the Bestseller list
Review: While I love Harry Potter, it is great to see a far less commercial book on the Adolescent bestsellers list. This book offers many fine insights and lessons for young people, not the least of which is that life is not always fair. Maybe for the younger kids, give Why Can't I Spray Today by Francine Poppo Rich.

Summary: Holes better then just a depression
Review: While patently waiting for the new Harry Potter to come out I was recommended this book. At first I wasn't thrilled with it, it seemed to move a bit slowly (hence the 4 star rating) but once I got into it, I was completely enthralled. The book does an excellent job of telling a moral tale without hitting you over the head with the moral

I'm a 25 year old woman with no children and I enjoyed it, I think this book transends age and tells and excellent story

Buy it, read it!

Summary: Honor Reading Review
Review: Who would of ever thought digging holes to build charactor could lead to the adventure of a lifetime for Stanley Yelnats. Holes is one of the few books I've had trouble putting down. The flashbacks in the telling of the story is amazing and the old type feeling of the book is outstanding. And lets not forget the comedy of the book! I defintily suggest this book for teenagers and even adults who want to get away from their horrible lifes and take a look into someones who's life has to be 10 times worse than anyone elses!
