Rating: Summary: Holes Review by the really tall girl on the white team Review: The boys at Camp Green Lake are not just diging to build character. That is just what the Warden has people thinking in Louis Sachar's book known as Holes. Louis Sachar writes this book by discribing 3 stories in 1. In the book a boy named Stanley Yelnats is sent to Camp Green Lake because of fate. He doesnt know that there is alot mare to Camp Green Lake that meets the eye. Stanley 's History goes back extremely far (100 years to be exact) Stanley doesnt realise he is going to encounter an exciting adventure. Louis Sachar writes this book in a suspenful way and makes the reader keep guessing what is going to happen. Even though I liked the book I think at the end Louis Sachar could have been more discriptive at the end . He leaves alot of questions unanswered and I wish he would have given us more Answers

Rating: Summary: The best children's book we read this year Review: The entire family was captivated by this interesting story--even my 14 year old son joined in out nightly reading sessions.
Rating: Summary: Holes Review: The fabulous book I read was holes written by Louis Sachar. In this jaw dropping book the innocent main was named Stanley or called Caveman by his friends. He was boy who went to a discipline camp because they thought he stole a shoe from a famous basketball player. At this camp you don't have fun you dig holes. My favorite character was a neglected Zero. He was Stanley's best friend at this lifeless boring camp. The story took place at this camp. I learned never to run away without food or water. This book was so good that I would definitely tell a friend to this book.
Rating: Summary: Spellbinding -- I read it in one sitting... Review: The fact this is written by a children's author doesn't mean it's no more than a children's book. Sachar's "Wayside School" stories are delightful. But this one is pure art. Think of Roald Dahl at his best -- "Danny" "Mathilda" "James" And Dahl's adult books, too. "Holes" may be designed for the "grade 5-9" set, but it's really a book for the ages...and for any age...
Rating: Summary: Book Review and Summary Review: The first sentence of Louis Sachar's novel, Holes, informs the reader that, "There is no lake at Camp Green Lake." With that, the reader is introduced to a world where very few things are what they might seem upon first glance and absolutely nothing is ordinary. Not unlike the story it tells, Holes is not your ordinary young adult novel. Louis Sachar has succeeded in telling a thrilling story with a strong social conscience that will entertain and educate both young and old. The story opens with Stanley Yelnats being sentenced to a juvenile correctional camp known as Camp Green Lake for a crime he didn't commit. Though Stanley is accustomed to such rotten luck, thanks to a curse that has followed his family since the days of his great-great-grandfather, he is not prepared for life at Camp Green Lake. The camp, a dried up lake where "campers" spend each day digging a hole that measures five feet deep and five feet wide, is filled with characters that are as interesting and sometimes dangerous as the scorpions, rattlesnakes, and yellow lizards that search for shade in this desert wasteland. Stanley quickly finds that there is less hope in Camp Green Lake than there is shade. That is until Stanley befriends a mysterious boy nicknamed Zero and begins to uncover buried clues to a secret that could change Camp Green Lake forever. As the mystery unfolds, the boys find themselves running from a Warden who paints her nails with rattlesnake venom and trying to dig up the one thing that might save them both. Louis Sachar seamlessly blends flashbacks into the story that help unfold the mystery and reveal the intertwined fates of the two young boys and the place that threatens not only their friendship but their lives. Parents will love this story because of the lessons it teaches. Kids will love the story because of the plot that is every bit as relevant as it is exciting. As future teachers, we can't wait to share the Newberry Award winning Holes with our classes. It is truly a novel that invites the reader to dig a little deeper with each and every turn of the page.
Rating: Summary: Holes Review: The first thing that comes to mind when we hear Camp Greenlake is a beautiful, sunny, shining lake full of life. Guess again! Louis Sachar describes Camp Greenlake as a "dry, flat, wasteland". Holes, by Louis Sachar is a story of mystery, adventure, and excitement. Stanley Yelnats has been accused for stealing a pair of shoes, supposedly worth $5,000, from a homeless shelter. And, like always, Stanley blames his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather for his troubles. Stanley has a choice of going to jail or going to Camp Greenlake. Now you must know that Stanley, having come from a poorer family, has never been to camp before. Therefore, he thought it would be fun to go to camp. Armpit, X-ray, Zero, Barf-Bag, Squid, Zigzag, and Magnet are some of the other attendants at Camp Greenlake. Stanley soon meets them and becomes what you might be able to call friends with them. As life goes on and 5 by 5 holes are dug, Stanley realizes there's more to this digging than building character. Stanley and Zero become good friends and one day Zero runs away. Days and days later Stanley finds him and they try to "find refuge on God's thumb". Together they try to survive without water and use their natural resources to feed and water themselves. The camp was said to have the only water for 100 miles. The two refugees secretly go back to camp and dig one last hole. While digging, they come across a... you'll have to read the book to find out more about Zero's secrets, Kissin' Kate Barlow (a famous outlaw) and the Warden's point for Camp Greenlake!
