Rating: Summary: My Review Review: Stanley Yenats was a typial boy who was made fun of. He was typical until he was sent to Camp Green Lake. He didn't want to go because he knew he didn't steal the shoes from the homeless. At Camp Green Lake Stanley meets the person who really steals the shoes. You'll have to read the book to find out who done it. Holes is an exciting book and Louis Sacher makes it very dicriptive. Some parts in the book lost my intrest. Besides those spots I couldn't stop reading...
Rating: Summary: Holes Review: Stanley's ALWAYS had bad luck, and so did his father..and his grandfather and everyone is his family ever since his "no-good pig-stealing great grandfather",as this little name implies, had a problem with a pig-don't want to spoil anything. So he's gotten used to destiny pushing him around. What's the big deal about going to some camp in the desert where he has to dig a hole 5 feet wide and deep everyday?Despite its being horrible,Stanley never minded being at the bad end of luck.Who would have thought going there would turn the tables? And what are they trying to find by digging in the sand?Is it linked with Stanley's bad history? Flashbacks help make this book enjoyable. I recommend this book to everyone. It has been a while since the bad-luck-all-the-time-turning-into-good-look-miraculously plot has been used in a book, this is one of the best ones out there
Rating: Summary: Thought-provoking read for Junior High Students! Review: Stanley's conflicts at a youth camp located in a desert area are many. Wrongly accused of a crime, he must deal with the authorities, nature, the environment, and his own abilities. He learns courage, hope and a "never give up" attitude. Great teaching for youth. Many discussions can evolve. Excellent teaching tool! Strongly recommended. Evelyn Horan - teacher/counselor/author Jeannie A Texas Frontier Girl, Books One and Two
Rating: Summary: Holes Review: Stanley, a young boy who is wrongly accused of stealing, is given a choice of going to jail or attending Camp Green Lake, a camp that straightens out troubled children and 'builds character'. Stanley and his family decide that Camp Green Lake would be better than jail; this decision would change his life. The book HOLES is a well-written fiction by Louis Sacher. The story describes one boy's experience at Camp Green Lake. Stanley, the story's protagonist, faces many challenges during his sentence. After initially becoming friends with the other boys, Stanley ultimately befriends Zero, the group 'outcast'. Stanley teaches Zero to read in exchange for Zero helping Stanley complete his difficult camp task of digging one large hole every day. The other boys, angered by the fact that Zero does Stanley's work, turn on the two. Zero tires of the abuse from the other boys and runs away from the camp. Stanley realizes there is only one thing he can do and sets out to find his friend. Stanley finds him in bad condition, but alive. When Zero refuses to return to camp, Stanley starts to lose hope. He is inspired by "Big Thumb," a mountain shaped like the thumbs-up sign, the same "Thumb" that gave his great-grandfather hope over a hundred years ago. Stanley and Zero decide to try to get to the top, but after many near-death experiences they decide to go secretly back to camp in search of a treasure that was supposed to be buried there. They make it back to the camp, get caught, but are finally rescued by Stanley's lawyer and reunited with their parents. I strongly recommend this book. Stanley faces many conflicts: Stanley vs. The authorities at camp, Stanley and Zero vs. the mountain, and most importantly, Stanley vs. himself and his abilities. From the story we learn, along with Stanley, not to give up and not to lose hope, which was also the theme of the book. All these factors made for an interesting story and a great book.

Rating: Summary: Holes Review: Stanly Yelnets has the family curse because of his no good dirty rotton pig stealing great great grandfather . Now Stanly has been sent to Camp Green Lake , a boys detention center , where all the boys build up character by all day , every day , digging holes exactly 5 feet deep and 5 feet wide . There is no Lake at Camp Green Lake but an awful lot of holes there . It does'nt take very long for Stanly to figure out theres more than just character improvement going on at Camp Green Lake . The boys are digging holes because the Warden is looking for something out there . I liked this book because it was funny , not boring . I dide'nt want to put it down because it had a great plot , and every quality a book should have
