Summary: a hole lot of fun
Review: Stanley Yelnats is the palindromic hero of "Holes." As punishment for supposedly stealing a pair of sneakers, he is sentenced to a stint at Camp Green Lake (a misnomer if there ever was one). There, in a Dickensian-like conditions under (Roald)Dahlian like keepers, Stanley digs holes daily with the other hapless boys. Soon he comes to realize that he may be digging for reasons that have nothing to do with building character, and everything connected with the curse placed on his family long ago.

With his new friend Zero, Stanley manages to unravel the mystery and revoke the curse. Like Dahl and Dickens, all ends happily with the villains suitably punished. Along the way, the characters learn about the importance of persistence, loyalty to your friends, and how to get rid of foot odor for good.

And the movie is just as terrific.

Summary: Holes
Review: Stanley Yelnats is under a curse. Now he is sent to the boy's detention center, Camp Green Lake, except there is no lake or anything that is green. The boys there spent the days digging holes. Soon Stanley finds out that they are looking for something. Also he makes a friend, Zero. Together they go and solve the mystrey, and finds a chest with a secret.

I enjoyed reading the end of this book over and over. There is something mysterous. We find out that Zero's great grandmother was Stanley's great grandpa's friend. It also turns out that Zero finds his mother. The ending was satisfying, with the mysterous beginning.

I really like this book because it builds up the want to read more. Mr. Louis Sachar is very talented in building up suspence. Even though this book has a dark humor in this book.

Summary: This book has holes, but they will be filled in.
Review: Stanley Yelnats is unlucky because of his no good dirty rotten pig stealing great-great-grandfather. An old fortuneteller, named Madame Zeroni, cursed him, and all of his descendants. One day a pair of tennis shoes fell out of the sky onto Stanley's head. His father is trying to invent a used for old shoes, so Stanley brings the shoes home. He is convicted of stealing the shoes, which belong to a famous baseball player. He is sent to Camp Green Lake, a work camp that is located in the middle of the dessert, instead of jail. The boys at Camp Green Lake wake up early to avoid the hottest part of the day. The holes must be five feet deep and five feet in diameter. If anything interesting is found, it must be reported to the warden. After finding something, Stanley gets suspicious. He realizes what it is and understands why they are digging. There are many flashbacks throughout the story of Camp Green Lake 110 years ago. Zero, another boy at camp, quickly becomes friends with Stanley. Stanley teaches Zero to read in exchange of Zero’s help on digging his holes. Many adventures come of their friendship, including surviving in the dessert without water and deadly lizards. This book is great for children, teenagers, and even some adults. It keeps you on edge at all times, and you will never want to put it down. I read this book in 3 days, and it usually takes me a week to read you will never want to put it down. I read this book in 3 days, and it usually takes me a week to read a book at that length. Sachar makes so many great twists in the plot that all tie together for a great ending. That is why I recommend this book.

Summary: Awesome
Review: Stanley Yelnats isn't a bad kid. In fact, he's a great kid who never did anything wrong. But he is sent to camp Green Lake for stealing a pair of shoes belonging to a famous baseball player that were to be auctioned off to help needy kids. Did he [take] them? No. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Years ago, Stanley's great-grandfather was robbed by the famous outlaw Kissin' Kate Barlow and lost a fortune..

Even before that, the first Stanley has a curse laid on his family for breaking a promise to a elderly lady that helped him when he needed it.

Louis Sacher has managed to weave multiple stories into a masterful book that, in my opinion, is his very finest. I can not recommend this book enough. Although it is intended for kids adults should read this too. This, Wringer, and The Giver are perhaps the best ever books for kids of their type.

Summary: An interesting adventure novel...
Review: Stanley Yelnats IV carries on the family curse, when he gets send to Camp Green Lake, a detention camp, for a "crime" he didn't commit. When Stanley arrives, he quickly realizes that the camp is not what he pictured. No lake, no shade, just lots of holes...Stanley joins a group of delinquent boys, who all wake up early to dig a hole a day in the dried-up lake bed where the camp is located. The story goes back and forth between Stanley IV and his ancestors, where we learn about the curse on his family. It's interesting moving back and forth in time and trying to figure out the exact mystery of why the boys are digging all the holes. A nice fast-moving read where everything is wrapped up in the end.

Summary: Maria's Point of View
Review: Stanley Yelnats lives in the present in a city with his poor family. Stanley is sent to Camp Green Lake, because he was accused of stealing a famous pair of shoes from an Orphanage. When Stanley got to Camp Green Lake he was surprised to see no lake but a bunch of holes. The holes and flying dust were from the other boys at Camp Green Lake. Mr. Sir, a grouchy counselor said, "If you take a bad boy and you make him dig a hole everyday, you can change him into a good boy." So, as Stanley dug everyday, he made friends. When Stanley realizes that the warden at the Camp was looking for something, it was too late. His best friend, Zero, had run off with no food or water outside of Camp Green Lake. The next day, Stanley ran off to find Zero. When Stanley found Zero, Zero and Stanley saw a mountain. This particular mountain looked like God's Thumb. Hours later, they got to the top of God's Thumb. On the top of God's Thumb was water and wild onions. After they stayed for a couple of days, they sneaked back to Camp Green Lake. At night, Zero sneaked back into the Camp to get some food, while Stanley dug to find what the warden was looking for, treasure! Almost an hour later, Zero came back with food. After they ate, Zero went into the hole to help Stanley dig and look. Stanley was in luck, because Zero was the fastest digger in the whole entire Camp Green Lake. Will Zero and Stanley find the lost treasure? They kept digging. Suddenly, they heard a thud. I recommend that this book is great, and I think people who read this book are great.

Summary: Stanley Yelnats is sent to a discipline camp to dig holes.
Review: Stanley Yelnats walks out of the boy's bathroom with a wet notebook. As he heads home from school, a pair of shoes fall from the sky. Well, not exactly. They fell from a highway above him. Like somebody just threw them out their car window as they drove by. Stanley decides to take them home to his father who is trying to find a way to recycle old shoes. The next thing he knows, Stanley is in court accused of stealing the baseball payer, Clyde Livingston's shoes. "They just fell from the sky," Stanley swears. But no one believes him. Stanley is sentenced to eighteen months at Camp Green Lake. Stanley's family has never had the money to send him to camp before, so he is kind of excited. When Stanley arrives at Camp Green Lake, in Texas, he sees no lake. Just hundereds of holes across the vast emptiness. Stanley finds out that the boys at the camp dig holes. One each day. Each hole must measure five feet wide and five feet deep. "This is not a girl scout camp," yells Mr. Sir. "We build character by digging holes!" Stanley meets Zero and starts teaching him to read and write. Zero is the fastest digger, so in return, he digs part of Stanley's hole. One day, Stanley starts to wonder. They can't be digging holes just to dig holes. And, whenever something is found, the Warden inspects it. The Warden owns Camp Green Lake. She has a cabin with two trees in front. The Warden owns the shade. One day, Zero runs away fom the camp. Everyone thougt that Zero loved digging holes, but they were wrong. Stanley feels it his duty to find Zero so he runs away too. He catches up with him and they find refuge on a mountain that looks like a thumb sticking up. They find onions and survive on them for a few days. Stanley tells Zero that they have to go back to Camp Green Lake. Maybe there's a treasure buried in the dried up lake and that's why the boys dig holes. But will Stanley and Zero find their way back to camp? Will they find a treasure? You'll have to read this book to find out.
