Rating: Summary: Closely interwoven plot indeed! Review: One of the "big name" reviews on this site says that the plot is "closely interwoven." What a great line, and so very true about this marvelous book. Every single detail that you come across ties into the plot, which is wonderful. This is a better read than many of the "grown up" books that our world expects us big people to read. If all of Louis Sachar's work is this great, I am going to have a lot of his books before too long. (I did read "There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom" which I also enjoyed very much.) This is a masterpiece by a very talented, funny, and clever writer. READ THIS BOOK!
Rating: Summary: HOLES IS A MUST READ! Review: One of the best books I have read in the past year would have to be Holes by Louis sachar. It is a marvelous book which tells about a boy who goes to a camp called Camp Green Lake. They have to dig holes everyday as a punishment. One of the reasons I enjoyed this book this is because it tells about daily life, and how you need to try not to get in a lot of trouble because as they say in the real world "you do the crime you have to pay the time". A second reason I found this book so interesting is because the same boy who gets sent to camp meets a boy who did the crime that a different did. So in other words the boy was framed. My favorite part of this book, which I love so much is when both of the boys decide to run away together, and they have to onions in order to survive for the rest of the time being. So as you can see Holes by Louis Sachar is my favorite book.
Rating: Summary: Awesome book! Review: One of the best books I've ever read. Go read this one!

Rating: Summary: Online Book Review Review: One thing I liked about the book Holes was that the characters and setting were unique and believable. Stanley was an overweight boy who did not have any friends from school and often got picked on. He was accused of a crime he did not commit and was sent to a correctional camp (Camp Green Lake) where the boys are supposed to build character. Zero, also known as, Hector Zeroni, is black youth who has not had much of an education. He does not know how to read or write. X-Ray is portrayed as the head of the group. He decides that Stanley will be called Caveman and organizes the order of the line for water. Katherine Barlow is an important character brought up from the past. She once taught in a one-room schoolhouse on Green Lake, one hundred and ten years before it became Camp Green Lake. Her treasure is buried on the lake. The setting takes place at Camp Green Lake in the summertime. As the plot unfolds, the characters begin to develop more and more. We find out that Zero has stolen the shoes that Stanley was accused of stealing. Towards the end of the book, Zero confesses and apologizes to Stanley for stealing Clyde Livingston's shoes. By the time Stanley leaves Camp Green Lake, he is both physically and emotionally stronger. As we learn more about the past, we discover how Katherine Barlow got her nickname, Kissin' Kate Barlow. She fell in love with Sam, a black man who sold onions in town. Prejudice townspeople killed him and Kate becomes Kissin' Kate Barlow, one of the most feared outlaws in the west, to get revenge. Sometimes we can all get pulled into a plot while reading a good book and things that we know that do not ordinarily happen seem normal. One example from Holes is the coincidence of Zero stealing Clyde Livingston's shoes, placing them on a parked car, and then that same pair of shoes, fell from the overpass and hit Stanley on the head. "I was walking home from school and the sneakers fell from the sky, one had hit me on the head," Stanley told the judge (Sachar 23). I thought that the pacing and style were appropriate for this novel. There are different stories that are connected. The stories switch back and forth. Each time a piece of history was revealed, it foreshadowed what was about to happen in the present day Camp Green Lake. The main story is in the present and is about a boy named Stanley Yelnats who went to a camp in Texas because he (supposedly) committed a crime. Read Holes to see if you can find the answer to the major dramatic question, what are the boys at Camp Green Lake digging holes for, and why are they being put to work? I really enjoyed reading Holes, by Louis Sachar. I had a hard time putting the book down because I was so curious to see how it would end. I feel that this book would be best enjoyed by age ten and older, grades 4-6. Holes could be used along with many different activities in the classroom. Before finishing the book, the students could make up a list of about four or five questions they hope will be answered by the ending. After completing the story the students could fill in the answers to their questions, which could be followed by a class discussion.
Rating: Summary: Not the best book ever... Review: OPINION: My freind reccomended this novel to me about amonth ago, she told me "You'll love it", I did, but not as much as she. I hope you'll ignore all the five-star raves that most people are giving this book, the only reason there are so many people who are saying it's the best book they have ever read, is because they were forced to read it in school, and it's the only book they have ever read. It is NOT an epic, for those of you who are real readers, you will find this book to be OK, but not great.WHAT IS THIS BOOK ABOUT???!?!?: Holes starts out with a boy, Stanly Yelnats, who is wrongly accused of stealing shoes and sent to a kind of boot camp for boys. In the boot camp the Stanly, and the other boys are forced to dig holes everyday...later on in the book you find out why the warden of the camp forces them to digs holes, and what the warden is looking for, read this book to find out, you won't be dissapointed...If this is the first book you've ever read (that is the case for most kids reviewing on this book) it will be the best, if it's not the first book you have ever read it will be OK but not great and not worthy of all the hype it's recieved. ....
Rating: Summary: 21st Century Book Club Review: Our Book Club read "Holes" and we couldn't put the book down. We recommend this book as a great gift for all the up and coming holidays. Readers should be a least in 6th grade and above because of the various themes. The book was fun and entertaining. We took a liking to "Zero". His character was fascinating because he was actually smarter than everyone thought. The friendship between Stanley and Zero was interesting. This book has a surprising ending.
Rating: Summary: Our Class Loved This Book Review: Our class loved "Holes". We visited Camp Green Lake each day in class, and enjoyed it. We now reading Harry Potter, and debating which one is better. This is a great book for all kids! (And Adults)
Rating: Summary: An Adventure in Holes Review: Our class read Holes - a few chapters each day. At the end of our reading, we always wanted to see what would happen next. Holes was exciting because it had three different stories running throughout, and they all came together at the end. We found it surprising, shocking, entertaining, and suspenseful. However, there were some parts that we didn't like as much. The book created many questions that were not answered until the end. We disagreed with some of the moral issues. All in all, we thought it was one of the better books we have read and would recommend it highly.
