Summary: This is a delightful book
Review: My husband had Holes to read to see if it would be appropriate for his third-graders. I picked it up on vacation and loved it. The interweaving of several storylines, past and present, is wonderful. I enjoyed being surprised as the past somehow managed to always help out in the present. I read Harry Potter at the same time and enjoyed that as well, but Holes is a much more sophisticated, inventive book. I'd recommend it to advanced third graders up to adults.

Review: My kids were hooked from the first sentence. It opened lots of avenues for discussion in class and was a wonderful introduction to subplots in writing. They groaned when I stopped reading it each day. That is a testamony of the highest order!!

Summary: You will never want to put in down:)
Review: My most favorite book that I have read this year would be Holes. This is a good book because of all the things that happened. The first reason I like this book is when Stanley could barley dig his first hole. The second reason I like this is when Zero stole the sunflower seeds. The final reason I like this book was when Stanley ran away to look for Zero. Those are the reasons I like Holes.

Summary: perfect
Review: My mother collects children's liteatiure, and over the years I have become quite a connoiseur. Holes was one of the best that I have read in years. The skill with which the story is woven together, the cleverness, and the writing style are impressive. I'm an 18 year old college student, and I couldn't put the book down. The moral is heartwarming without being cheesey, and the book addresses serious issues of friendship, classism, and raceism in a no nonsense way that does not speak down to children. Read it, by all means.

Summary: Mega Holes!
Review: My name is Matthew and I am in the 4th grade. I had to read holes for a book club assignment. Lots of people told me that it was a good book before I read it. The book was much better than I thought it would be. It was the best book I've ever read. It is the only chapter book that I've liked. You should read this book because you will get 'stuck' in it. It is awesome! It is sweet!

Stanley gets sent to Camp Green Lake for stealing a pair of sneakers. The camp is a place for bad boys. At camp, Stanley has to dig holes that are as deep and wide as his shovel. None of the boys know why they are digging the holes. The camp warden is always mad at the boys because they are not digging fast enough for her. There is a reason for the holes but I don't want to tell you because it will ruin the story for you.

Stanley makes a new friend at the camp. His name is Zero. Zero doesn't know how to read or write. Stanley tries to teach him.

Summary: A great book to read together
Review: My nine year old son and I read this book together. The chapters are short so we took turns reading every other chapter to each other. The story was a little bit complex for younger readers but it did give us a chance to keep discussing the story as we went along. I think this was a great book for kids who are beginning to read chapter books on their own. It is also fun to know that we get to rent the movie when we are finished reading the book! I highly recommend this book-- I think I am enjoying it as much as my son.

Summary: What I think of Holes
Review: My opinion of the book HOLES is that it was a great book!In the book Louis Sachar(the author) writes a story within a story within a story about a family named The Yelnats'.These stories within stories talk about the Yelnats in time hundreds of years before Stanley IV and about Stanley's friends at Camp Green Lake. Also, all throughout each world Sachar talked about the people they knew that also affected Stanley IV. Since there was a story within a story within a story it helped explain a lot of things that happened after them that explains what happens to Stanley. Although it was confusing about Sachar changing the world so fast, but it all ties together at the end. Holes by Louis Sachar is a great book in my opinion that has lots of adventures in it. I think everybody should read this book.
