Summary: Great book for readers of all ages!
Review: My 10-year-old son's 5th grade teacher started reading Holes daily to his class and he started giving me periodic updates. We were both dismayed when the book was due back at the library and his teacher couldn't renew it since so many people were on the waiting list for the book. We tried checking it out at our local library and after finding it wasn't available at any branch in the county, bought our own copy. We finished the book quickly, enjoying every chapter and shared it with his class so they would know how it ended. I always enjoy happy endings and this book definitely has one!

Summary: Incredibly inventive !
Review: My 11 year old daughter and I both loved this book. Its a totally unique piece of fiction, that really captures the imagination. I'd recommend it to boys and girls in the 10-12 age group (all the main characters in the book are boys). To describe it would take away all the fun of reading it and discovering the story, except to say that it's the story of a boy who finds himself in difficult circumstances for no fault of his own, but his own inner goodness and strength bring him through it. It's in a genre all it's own. I think that because it happens in a present day setting, kids can read it and relate to it due to the great story telling. If you want your child exposed to some non-traditional fiction, this book is it. No doubt that's why it won the Newberry Medal. Our daughter's teacher recommended it to the 5th grade class.

Summary: We must be missing something!!!!!!!
Review: My 11-year-old son and I read every night and in late spring we read Holes. We were both excited because we'd heard it was excellent. We both hated it! We found it dark, dreary and depressing. I have read many reviews and heard many comments lauding its circular storyline, but I found the story ridiculous and unappealing. We struggled through to the end and heaved sighs of relief when we finished.

Summary: stanley's a keeper
Review: My 13 year old daughter and 10 year old son loved this book, and so did my wife and I. You get caught up with the falsely accused Stanley and the others at the camp, and seemingly insignificant details become quite significant by the end of the story. A well-plotted and entertaining book, with a good message about the value of persistence and treating others with respect.

Summary: Holes, from a parent's perspective
Review: My 13 year old has talked about this book (I bought it for him about 3 years ago). This is the book everyone in his circle has read. So he convinced me to read it. Now, drop what you might be reading and take this elegant little novel for a spin. Think John Irving perhaps while you do and settle in for a very nice read. If your kids are readers, they probably have already read it, if not, this WILL get their attention. I absolutely love the feeling I get after reading a good book, this is one, read it, and then give it to a kid you like.

Summary: Way Better than Harry Potter!
Review: My 5th grade class I'm in just started reading this book.We have 50 pages to go.Every day when my teacher was going to stop every kid in the class begged and yelled for him to continue. So far, this has benn a super book.I have read most of Harry Potter. This is better than Harry Potter.Harry Pottter just seemed boring to me.But this,it sounded boring, just look at how happy I am now. Some times it was sick, sometimes it was "sweet", sometimes it was scary, sometimes it was sad.All of those words begining with s. It was very sad when Mary Lou(Sam the Onion Man's donkey) was shot and killed when Sam did too.

Wonderful.Pure fabulous.

Summary: WHAT A GREAT BOOK!
Review: My 8 year old daughter and I read this book together, and absolutely loved it. It is so funny and has some great lines. We particularly liked "the no good, dirty rotten, pig stealing great, great grandfather" that takes the blame for all of the Yelnats bad luck. This book is a joy to read, and I highly recommend it.

Summary: Holes
Review: My 8th grade students are totally loving this book! It is one of the best novels I have read in a very long time. There are so many plots happening at the same time; one wonders how the author was able to bring them altogether so effortlessly. I am in awe, Mr. Sachar.

Summary: Excellent book - Wonderful plot and characters
Review: My 9 yr old and I read this in two sittings one weekend. We took turns. We particularly liked the way the various incidents in the story came together. It reminds one of Joseph Heller's Catch 22 in its plot complexity. Holes has a nice mixture of humor, action and can be surprising touching - particularly in the character of Zero (who is anything but a zero). Bravo to Mr. Sachar

Summary: Excellent for all ages
Review: My 9-year-old granddaughter enjoyed this book so much. We took turns reading it out loud on a road trip from Colorado to California. She then read it herself and has since shared it with her Mom, one of her Mom's friends, and several kids at school.
