Summary: This is a fabulously woven tale!
Review: I was first very skeptical about this book, but from the first page, it drew me right into the story of how an children and young adults see the world. This is definitely a must for anyone!

Summary: Hole
Review: I was introduced to holes by Louis Sachar by my English teacher. She recommended it to me. The story line is awesome. Holes is a book that proves everyone is guilty of something illegal in their life. This book is the most interesting book I have ever read compared to The Giver.

Summary: I finally got their attention!
Review: I was looking for a book that would catch the attention of my sixth grade boys. Their complaint was that we read only "girlie" books. Well, HOLES by Louis Sachar did the job. It is a book about a young boy who must suffer through the agony of his mistakes, but finds companionship through his peers. The story is written in a language that the kids understand, and has relevancy for them. It is up to the minute for all students of this age. I am glad to have found such a book. Since beginning to read this, I have had my class buy several copies at the Book Fair that was held at school. Most of them finished the book on their own. These same boys were the ones who complained about the types of books we read. Hurray for the book, and hurray for my class. I will continue to use this book as a springboard to get the kids "wanting to read."

Summary: Average...fairly interesting.
Review: I was only vaguely impressed with this book. Louis Sacher, also the author of the hilairious but juvinile WaYsIdE sChOOl books, was my favorite author in 3rd grade (I am now in 8th) but I can't understand what drove him to write HOLES. Humor was Sacher's strength, and he sort of let that strength go in this book. Although it was well-written, I don't think it is that good a read for children or adults. Rather boring and typical.

Summary: A Masterpiece
Review: I was originally turned on to this book after watching the movie of the same name. I enjoyed the movie, and thought that my children would enjoy the book. I borrowed the book from the library the next week and was surprised when I looked inside the cover at the list of other books written by the author---I was familiar with his work.

I read my first Loius Sachar book when I was in grade school. The book was Sideways Stories from Wayside School. I loved it, and it's one of the books that fueled my love of reading. Intrigued by the discovery, I read the entire book that night (which was not hard to do because the book is intended for children ages 9-12).

After reading the book, I was impressed at how well the movie stayed true to the book (which is usually quite rare for Hollywood to do). I was also impressed at how, after all these years the Loius Sachar was able to capture my attention so easily (especially since I already knew the whole story).

The bottom line is that this book is a true masterpiece. I strongly recommend this book to any reader---both young and old. Parents will enjoy reading this book to their younger children, while the older children will simply enjoy the reading and (hopefully) yearn for more.

Summary: SO MUCH BETTER THAN OTHER LOUIS SACHAR BOOKS!
Review: I was rather reluctant to read Louis Sachar's "Holes" because I have read other works of his. The "Wayside School" books are wonderfully funny books that were great for the third graders. I didn't want to read something else by that author. HOWEVER: (you knew that was coming) This is an amazing book that I would recommend to anyone. The writing is slightly bizarre, and the first couple of chapters might scare some people away, but after finishing the last page, all you can say is "Wow..." Once I had recieved the book as a gift, I was up long past midnight reading it. I was very impressed and will now look forward to reading Louis Sachar novels.

Summary: really good book!!
Review: I wasn't interested in reading this book, until my friend invited me to the see the movie with her. She told me that I could go only if I had read the book. Well, the movie looked pretty good so I picked up the book from the library. It was awesome! Louis Sachar (the author) uses three different stories to write this one big story. It's almost like a jigsaw puzzle. They seem to have nothing to do with each other but then, in the end, they all fit together perfectly. The characters were portrayed very well and I found myself feeling as if I was in the book and standing right alongside them. The movie also helped me understand it. So if you need a way to spend an afternoon I recommend reading the book (it is a pretty easy read) and then going to see the movie. (which was also really good!)
