Summary: Amazing book!!
Review: I thought this book was wonderful and had strong meaning! The author made the book all connected which keeps you glued onto your chair reading and wondering how it would end.

Summary: Way Better than Harry Potter
Review: I thought this book would be boring. I mean there's not much you can say about holes. I only read it because my brother's friend had brought it from school and left it at our house. I saw the preview for the movie so I figured I'd give the book a try and I for one must say it was excellent. I didn't go to bed until 4:30am last night ( thank goodness it wasn't a school night) because I couldn't put it down. It was one of the first books I've read in a long time that kept me wanting to read it and interested the whole time.
The characters are very easy to related to and lifelike. The book is also nicely paced, not too fast or slow moving at all.
Something I liked was that while the setting is supposed to be a detention center it is still humorous and decent without all of that stuff you usually get with these settings. In short, no drugs, alcohol, sex, or any of that stuff.
Another thing is that there are no loose ends. Throughout the book every situation is explained so your not sitting there thinking " Huh? Why did that happen?" or " Who is that person?".
I've read the Harry Potterbooks and no offense Rowling but Sachar puts your books to shame. And he's able to do it without all that techanical fantasy stuff. Sure there's a little something enchanting about the story Holes, but it is mostly real life making it easy for real people to related to along with a twist of fiction. I only wish that freaking Harry Potter story would have come to a closing and that this book could have been a series.
This is a wonderful book and I recommend it to everyone looking for a great read.

Summary: my review
Review: I thought this story was all right it could have been better. The problem with this story was that in certain situation it would be a comedy, and then quickly change into an action scene. It's a good book, but it's not the best book I read. The only thing I enjoy really was the characters they were describe clearly, and I could almost picture the way they looked.

Summary: Wow.
Review: I thought this was a really thought-provoking book. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because it could have been a little more descriptive, and at some points, the plot fell together just a little too neatly.

Otherwise, though, it's very interesting. Stanley Yelnats must go to a detention camp to serve a punishment for a crime he didn't commit. He must endure the idiosyncracies of his fellow "campers" and wardens in order that he may survive. But most importantly (in my humble opinion) he forges a friendship with "Zero," a camper who has never been or done anything worthy or useful - at least to ordinary observers.

This is a beautiful tale of human frailty, prejudice, friendship, trust and of promises broken and redeemed. Definitely worth a read, no matter what your age (I am 23).

Summary: Why holes isn't my favorite
Review: I thouht the book was okay because they have all of those flash backs that really gets confusing. But I like the part where Stanley walks in and he meets all the people in tent d
and he finds out that they all have freaky names.
and thats why I gave it 3 stars.

Summary: Amazing plot; social commentary; one of the best books ever!
Review: I was bored yesterday, and i went over to my 14 year old sister's bookshelf (I'm almost 18) and looked around for an easy read that would be interesting. Fortunately, my eye happened to fall on "Holes". She had said it was a good book before, so i took it back to my room... I picked it up, started reading, and couldn't stop reading until I was done. I even gave up homework and other priorities to finish this book, it was so suspenseful and amazingly written. It was definitely one of the best books I have ever read. I only expect the best from Louis Sachar, as his Wayside School books were hilarious and well written, but Holes pushed the limits on so many levels. I wouldn't even consider it a childrens' book for a second. Every passage holds criticisms of society, satire of certain types of people that exist in our lives... and the plot is so well done. I found myself exclaiming out loud "no WAY..." when another twist of fate brought loose ends of the plot together in a crazy coincidence. and I was crying for nearly half of this book. after i was done reading, it had drained me so much emotionally and all i could think about was the story. I am writing this now to get it out of my system, though i really enjoy analyzing "Holes". You all must think I'm insane, but if you do anything, GO READ THIS BOOK. it's well worth it.

other books i recommend - "The red tent" - Anita diamant
"The handmaid's Tale" - Margaret Atwood

And i feel just as strongly about these two... don't get me started

Summary: READ THIS IT IS GOOD!
Review: I was doing a book report in English class and I chose the book Holes. It was a very good book. There were parts I liked, and parts that I thought were unfair. A part I liked was when Stanley first arrived and met Mr. Sir. A part that was not fair was when Stanley found something while he was digging and another boy that was digging in a different hole got the rest of the day off insted of Stanley. The thing they are digging for is a box. SO YOU MUST READ THIS! If you don't you are missing out on a good mystery. The question is do they find what they are looking for or don't they?
