Summary: A Compelling, But Complex Read [From the JDRC]
Review: I thought that this book was extremely entertaining. But, at times, it was also extremely confusing. While also unbelievable, it's a great story, and anyone who has a good sense of adventure should read it!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A unique, compelling read
Review: I thought that this book was going to be uninteresting and shallow, but I was thankfully wrong. Sachar is an excellent writer with an excellent style.

Stanley Yelnats, the overweight underdog of his school, is accused unjustly of stealing a pair of very famous sneakers, and sent to Camp Green Lake, a repulsive hard-knocks camp, overseen by a conscienceless Warden, and arrayed with a huge number of scorpions, rattlesnakes, and poisonous lizards. He secretly thinks that it is the curse of his great-great-great-grandfather, who broke a promise to an old lady, that has doomed every succeeding Yelnats to failure.

Together, he and his friend Hector "Zero" Zeroni set out to find the treasure of Kissin' Kate, a legendary outlaw. And the twist at the end is a true treasure to behold.

The story of Stanley is well-paced, interspersed with stories from hundreds of years ago, about his ancestor and Kissin' Kate.

The characters, especially Zero and Stanley, are excellently-constructed. All the boys at Green Lake are well fleshed-out, keeping themselves isolated and toughened up while subconsciously banding together. With the exception of the creepy Mr. Sir, the villains are never shown as the ordinary kid-hating children's book villain, seeming to be sadistic in general.

This book deserved the Newbery Award. Bravo, Mr. Sachar.

Summary: Boring Read Says Teacher
Review: I thought that this book was just awful, and could not even finish it. I am about 100 pages away from the end and can't get myself to read it. The plot was ridiculously unusual, the characters obnoxious, and I highly discourage parents from having their children read it. I honestly don't understand how it won the Newbury Award...I guess that goes to show how awards aren't everything.

Summary: Holes- The best book on Earth
Review: I thought that this book was remarkable. I cried numerous times through the book due to the events that the character Stanley and his best friend Zero had to face before the curse had lifted.
I am an eigth grade Student and I am fourteen years old and I believe that this is one of the best books that I have ever read in my short years. Louis Sachar really captures innocense and heartship through his characters. Camp Green Lake and what it represented was brilliant! I love this book and would recommend this book to anyone.

Summary: Holes review
Review: I thought that this book was very ineresting & funny. When you are reading the book you get to learn and you get to have fun.So far my favorite part is when Madame Zeroni tellw Stanleys great great grandfather to carry a pig up and down the mountain everyday to get a wife and when he doesn't he gets cursed. Also the things you learn from this book are:
1.Most of the time when you stand up for your friends you or your friend will not get punished.
2.If things do not always go the way you want them to, everything will be o.k.

Summary: Dig it Up
Review: I thought the book Holes by Louis Sachar was awesome. I thought this, because that was the first chapter book I ever read. Now, I think reading is great. I gave Holes book five stars. I gave it five stars because it was really good. My favorite character was Stanley. He was my favorite character because he tried his hardest at digging those holes. The problem in this book was that Stanley's family could not afford enough money hire a lawyer, so he had to make a decision, either to go to camp or go to jail. I would recommend this book because it was a great story. I thought it was great for anyone to read. The book was about characters digging holes. They had to dig holes because it's a punishment for something bad they did. They're looking for a treasure. I saw the movie and it was a little different from the book. In conclusion, I think you should read books a lot to make you much smarter because reading makes you smart!
