Rating: Summary: HOLES Review: I read the book Holes by Lois Sachar. I thought it was very interesting. Stanley Yelnats is the main character. Stanley is a poor kid. So one day when he was walking home, Stanley was hit in the back with a pair of smelly sneakers. Stanley thought it was luck, but it was the opposite and it lead to a whole world of trouble. As it turns out the sneakers were stolen from a window display for a fund raiser. The person who really stole the sneakers threw them to get rid of them. Stanley was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Stanley was convicted for a crime that he didn't commit . Stanley had a choice between jail or camp green lake, naturally he chose camp green lake. Camp green lake was once a thriving town and beautiful lake, but no more the town is deserted and the lake is all dried up. When Stanley arrived at camp he was assigned to tent D, Mr. Pendanski was his counselor. Stanley met some of the guys that where in his tent. They all had nick-names. Stanley's became caveman. Out of all the guys Stanley like x-ray the best. After the being introduced they all went to work. All the campers had to dig a 5'x5' hole in the scorching sun. the counselors and Mr. Sir the warden said it builds character. All the guys said you get use to it. After a while Stanley got a letter from his mom. Stanley noticed Zero looking over his shoulder. That's when Stanley found out Zero couldn't read. Stanley and Zero made a deal, Zero would dig a part of Stanley's hole if Stanley tough Zero to read. That is when Stanley became good friends with Zero. It didn't take long till everyone including Mr. Sir. When they found out they all criticized Zero. They said he was to stupid to learn to read. That's what made Zero run. Zero ran toward the big thumb. The big thumb was a mountain only to be seen in the right time of day when the were digging holes. The big thumb was supposed to have water on the top. Stanley couldn't stop thinking about Zero. So finally Stanley went after him. So if you want to find out what happens read Holes By Louis S.
Rating: Summary: Holes by Louis Scahar Review: I read the book Holes by Louis Sachar. I considered the book to be a mystery. My favorite part of the book was when the two boys leave and then return to find the hidden treasure. I believe that part makes the reader want to read more and more. I would recommend this book to any of my friends. It was an easy reading book and it was easy for me to concentrate on the story. I enjoyed the mystery of the book. It was fun to read further into the book and discover what would happen next. I think any of my friends (boys) would enjoy reading this. It deals with friendships and how friends can solve problems together.
Rating: Summary: The best book i have ever read Review: I read the book Holes with my class at school. We all loved the book. The story has some parts in it that can get you confused. Just keep going and it will make sence at the end. This book is not for any one under the age of 12. The book deals with issues that can disturbe little kids. I am only 12 years old and i can't believe what happens. My teacher says if you like the book the first time then you should read it again its even better.

Rating: Summary: My children and I loved it! Review: I read the first chapter of Holes to my third and fifth grader at bedtime the day school was out. We had two copies of the book, and by 7:00 the next day they had both finished it, and loved every minute of it. My daughter loved how it made her feel sad, happy, thirsty, and hot. She said Stanley really changed at the end because he trusted himself to carry Zero up the hill. In the beginning he probably wouldn't have even gone after Zero. The good friendship and self confidence he gained out in the desert were his great rewards. My son said the book was hilarious! He thought the twists and turns of fate were great. He especially loved that the spoiled canned peaches or "Sploosh" became a foot fungus reliever, and that the Warden's snake venom finger nail polish worked only when wet, and that Camp Green Lake eventually did become a Girl Scout Camp. The opposite of Stanley's bad luck came when, "In the end, Stanley had more hope that destiny was on his side. Climbing up the mountain with Zero gave him that hope." Reading this book gave us entertainment and a shared experience to talk about adversity, hope, friendship, and the human spirit. Thank you Louis Sacher. By the way, my son didn't want to pick up the book even though it was the '99 Newberry winner, until he noticed it was by Louis Sacher. Once he realized it was written by the author of the Wayside School, he knew he would like it, and did he ever!
Rating: Summary: Impressions of a German reader Review: I read the story with classmates in our english lessons.I think the book is very good, because there are three connected stories in one book and that this makes reading very interesting.I only give it 4 stars, because I think that some chapters of the book are unrealistic. It describes how a friendship between two boys (Stanley and Zero)grows.
Rating: Summary: Super Book for Kids! Review: I read this as a read-aloud to my sixth grade students. They were completely engulfed with the story of Stanley and his adventures. My students never wanted me to stop. The way the story unfolds, catches everyone's attention. The entire class had a huge, "AH-HA!" at the end of the book. This is a great book, just ask my students!

Rating: Summary: Wow!! Review: I read this book aloud to my 4th grade class. I did have to make minor edits for foul and unacceptable language. However, the children LOVED it. They couldn't get enough of it. They begged me to read it. Parts of it may have been slightly over their head and some of the vocabulary had to be discussed but, the story itself was totally engrossing.
