Summary: Do you like adventures?
Review: Adventures are great to read about. Well, the book I read is an amazing adventure. There's a boy named Stanley Yelnats; he's accused of something he didn't do. So he's sent to Camp Green Lake (juvenile camp.) It's not really the adventure he's on but, the one you're on. There's a special theme through-out the story. This theme is "Bad behavior and bad choices get you punished." Stanley did bad things in his life but nothing to get him in Juvenile Camp.
The setting takes place in Camp Green Lake in Texas. Camp Green Lake is a dry dusty lpace. There's not even a lake. lThere's a plot in this story. The plot is the problem which is Stanley is looking for something but he doesn't know what he's looking for. He can't seem to figure it out. The story also tells you about Stanley's amazing family and about their past. Holes was interesting story to read about.

Summary: A wonderful book for young adults
Review: After being falsely accused of stealing a pair of trainers, Stanley Yelnats is sentenced to spending eighteen months at 'Camp Green Lake', a juvenile detention facility. Thinking this was a better option than jail, he waves goodbye to his parents and sets off. Immediatly it seems he has made a mistake. In the hot, dry surroundings of what used to be the largest lake in Texas, the prisoners are made to dig a hole, five feet square and deep, every day, the idea behind this unconventional treatment is that "If you take a bad boy and make him dig a hole every day in the hot sun, it will turn him into a good boy."

Blaming his misfortune on his "no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather", Stanley is soon under the watchful eyes of the authoritarian Mr Sir and the creepy warden, whose main hobby is painting her nails with snake venom. Soon Stanley is losing weight, gaining self-esteem and making friends. However all is not as it seems at Camp Green Lake, and instead of digging to improve his character, Stanley must dig for the truth....

At first glance, the book appears to be a good-versus evil tale, with Stanley fighting to clear his name and escape from Camp Green Lake. However, the book is far deeper and includes events from the past, such as how the curse on the Yelnats family came about and the story of Kate Barlow. Past and present become linked after Stanley discovers treasure in the sand and escapes from Camp Green Lake with his friend Zero.

Holes is an unusual book, but is all the better for it. The plot is pretty complicated, yet the chapters are short enough to hold your attention. Characters such as Stanley, Zero and X-Ray are realistic and teenagers should find them easy to relate to. The story jumps between several different time periods, and this can become quite confusing, but overall the story is fast-paced, absorbing and interesting. One of the most fascinating young adult novels I've read in a long time.

Summary: Great Book
Review: After checking this book out from my school library I read the first 50 pages finding myself bored. I immediatley gave up on the book having no idea of what I was missing. I just checked it out again from my local library and I must say this book was phenomonal.

The book stars Stanley Yelnats, a kid that is accused of stealing sneakers and is sent to Camp Green Lake. There is no lake at Camp Green Lake. Each camper has to dig a hole everyday 5 feet by 5 feet because Mr. Sir says it builds character. Through many plots, twists, and flashbacks of Green Lake a hundred and ten years ago, this book is an amazing piece of literature. Read this book as soon as you can. You'll thoroughly enjoy it.

Summary: Excellent!
Review: After many of my friends recommended this novel to me, Ifinally decided to read Holes. Though the book was easy reading, itgot a very good point across through an excellent story. I loved the way everything tied together in the end, but the book did not have enough to hold me captivated for more than an hour at a time. I recommend this book if you liked The Giver.

Summary: Great "outloud" reading
Review: After my sons, ages 10 and 12, wrestled to see who got to read this book for the second time, I finally got my hands on it. What a wonderfully told story! My youngest son read it outloud to us after that, and I enjoyed it even more that way. Don't hesitate. Some aspects of the story are mature (socially realistic, not obsene), which makes for great family discussions.

Summary: A book that kids love!
Review: After reading about Holes on Amazon and ordering a copy, I read it and was certain that 12/13 year old boys I teach would lap it up. I then introduced it to the 4 classes in our area of the school and in less than 3 weeks it has been read by 10 boys and more want to read it. Each boy reads it in 2/3 days and raves about it. What makes it popular? Asking my pupils, they say because it's different and they also liked the history of the lake, both past and present. Basically, good stories like Holes will always be enjoyed. The fact that we live in New Zealand hasn't affected the enjoyment level, and this is another plus. Try and get hold of a copy today, no matter where in the world you live!

Summary: My 5th grade students want me to read it to them AGAIN!
Review: After reading Holes for the first time, I enjoyed the book. Upon reading it a second, third, and fourth time, I found the book even better. I began to notice details and intricate connections that on the first reading eluded me. I really enjoy the flashback scenes to the onion picker and Mary Lou.

Summary: This book is good.
Review: After reading Holes, I found myself reading one of the best books ever. This book is creative, and has the most interesting plot. Stanley Yelnats is so well described, and the characters are so detailed. You can almost feel yourself there with them at the horrid camp. As you can tell, I loved the characters. The character development was amazing, and the feelings of the characters were always described well. This book is one I recommend to anyone.

Summary: Teacher and Students Loved This Book
Review: After reading this book, I knew I had to read it to my sixth grade class. I have never seen sixth graders love a book as much as this one. I thought I was going to be hanged every time I stopped reading to them. One boy, who rarely read on his own or listened to me read, was heart-broken when he missed a day of school and thus the book. I was impressed with the way Sachar made my students think as they listened to the book, and forced them to look back in the story to understand what was happening. Both my students and myself loved "Harry Potter", but we all agreed that this book was by far better. This book receives my highest recommendation.
