Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: I read this one to pieces when I was little, now my little one is doing the same thing. I always felt sorry for the poor guy, being badgered half to death to eat something as nasty looking as green eggs and ham, but the jist of the story is to try things before you say you don't like them. What's neat is you can bring it back up at the dinner table when little ones don't want to eat. You can just say, "are they green eggs and ham?" It certainly works for us and really opens the door to eating new foods for toddlers. What a great book to help with learning new things too. A library classic that's for sure, and very entertaining. We love it in our house.
Rating: Summary: The Greatest Book Ever Review: Just a great little book.
A book to treasure and pass down to your children.
Rating: Summary: Green Eggs and Ham Review: Green Eggs and Ham is a very classic book written by Dr. Seuss himself. It is a book that I read when I was probably five or six and a book that was read to me long before that. It incorporates every interesting aspect of Dr. Seuss literature. The fact that he never wants to eat the green eggs and ham, and then, when he does he absolutely loves it. This teaches kids that it is good to try new things, especially food that is good for you. Calling the food green is a good move because things that kids usually don't want to eat are green. Such as brussle sprouts and asparagus and things of that nature.
I love the persistence of Sam. The way he is constantly trying to give his friend the green eggs and ham. Sam soon becomes, Sam-I-Am and the rest is history. They come up with silly rhymes and funny sayings that catch everyone off guard. It starts to get annoying with the repeating of Sam-I-Am, but the more and more you read on the more and more you want him to just eat the Green Eggs and Ham. Everyone knows that it is just food coloring and that everything will be fine. It will be just like eating regular eggs and ham only it would be more fun. I can recall many a time when I would ask my mom to dye my eggs and ham green for my breakfast. I am sure that I was not the only kid to do that. I don't believe that I ever actually got her to do it, well maybe a few times but certainly not as much as I would have liked. The main point is this book is so good that it convinces kids to eat green eggs and ham. Even before the guy in the book, the reader wants to eat them just to silence Sam.
This story is also a great teaching tool for a number of things in a child's life. It teaches kids that although they may not want to eat something they should at least try it and they may find out that they like it, just like the character in the story. This book is a very basic book that tells kids to eat healthy without them even knowing it. In all of Dr. Seuss books there is some underlying meaning that is basic enough for kids to understand and for them to learn subconsciously. It teaches kids how to read and recognize simple words that they can use to build their vocabulary from. Kids do not know it at the time, but when they read the book over and over again it helps them to learn the words in ways they can use them. Not just simply something that they can read but also something that they can comprehend.
In conclusion, Dr. Seuss books are not just a bunch of rhyming words and goofy looking characters, they are also learning tools for young children. Everyone in the United States grew up reading and listening to Dr. Seuss and everyone has grown to love and adore every one of his books.
Rating: Summary: I would read it here, there, everywhere. Review: At an age well over 30, I still remembered this book fondly from my childhood. I bought it for my goddaughter when she was 3 and she loved to have me read it to her time and again. She is 4 now and has memorized the book and "reads" the right words that go with each page. As memorization is a child's first step in learning to read, I have no doubt that she will actually be learning to recognize the written words in no time. As another reviewer said, 5 stars is too little for this wonderful book.
