Summary: A must for Thomas fans, young and old.
Review: This is a excellent book and difinative collection of all of the original Thomas the Tank engine stories by Rev. W.V. Awdry. This deals with all the original characters prior to the recent real commercialization of Thomas. It also gives bonus materials about how/why the stories were created, who certain characters were based upon, and the three artists involved. The language is original, done in the colloquialisms of the time in England. Example: pay him out - for - pay him back. Some language we also discourage in our home (eg: shut up) are used, but we live in different times. There are also some hard to pronounce Scottish brogues used when Donald and Douglas are speaking. I had to change some language and pronounciations for my little ones, and me. It's a large, hefty but easy to read book of about 400 pages. There are reproductions of 99% of the original artwork which is colourful and detailed. It is well used in my household. This, like all books, have lead to great quality time with my boys involving discussions, imagination and then Thoams storey making of their own. I highly recommend it

Summary: A keepsake treasure for any child who loves Thomas the Train
Review: This is the book of all books. All the Thomas the train stories all in one book and a little about the man who started it all. This is a great keepsake book. Would of liked to see more pitcures. But an over all review was 4 1/2 out 5 stars.

Summary: Wonderful Book Containing all the Original Thomas Stories
Review: This volume contains all 26 of Rev. W. Awdry's Thomas the Tank Engine Stories. They have the original artwork as well as biographical sketches of the author and artists. My son had a hard time giving it to his friend for her birthday!! I'll order him another copy!!

Summary: What a hit this made!
Review: This was my grandson's 4th birthday gift, and he opened it up and began identifying the characters and their stories as if he were going through last summer's vacation photos! A real plus is that many of the stories spotlight organizations in the UK from which the different characters come and you can find information on the web for those organizations with more pictures and stories. The drawback of course is that with the new characters constantly being introduced (with their videos and trains to be purchased) there is no way to get a truly Complete book but this is as complete as could be before the current Thomas revival!

Summary: The ultimate Thomas book.
Review: THOMAS ... THE COMPLETE COLLECTION is beautiful, perfect for your Thomas fan. But not for the youngest ones -- it's too big, and an overwhelming number of stories for the little guys at one time. Here are all the original Rev. W. Awdry stories and all the illustrations from three separate illustrators. (You can see the different styles of illustration.) It's a big, oversize, heavy book -- you're going to have to read it aloud -- and you'll have to adopt the occasional Scottish accent, too! There's a map of Sodor, a foreword by the author, and an afterword by Brian Sibley (author of the wonderful "Three Cheers for Pooh") that includes biographical info on Awdry and the illustrators. Plus, there are a few surprises: Thomas wasn't in the first story. And there's no mention of Sir Topham Hatt in this world where all the engines have names but most of the people don't. I guess "Sir" was a Britt Allcroft compilation of the different controllers. Allcroft, by the way, must be thanked for bringing Thomas back to life in the '80s, and even though the wording of those stories is different, you'll recognize a lot of them in these originals. Get this for your Thomas fan (and yourself -- it's hard to put down!). But also get some of the more recent books that are smaller and designed for young readers.

Summary: Pokemon for preschoolers
Review: Thomas the Tank Engine to preschoolers is what Pokemon is to little older kids. For the Thomas the tank engine fan this is the best present ever. Tons of stories with original illustrations translate into hours of reading. The binding of the book is very strong and durable and it survives little hands going through the stories several times a day.

For moms and dads though, the stories might be a little creepy. While Awdry picked up on something that kids have always loved (trains) and he tried to build basic morals into each of the stories, he is not the best kids books writer.

Summary: The Best Thomas Book Ever Made!

Summary: My kids from 10years old to 1 year old love this book.
Review: We borrowed this book from the library for my 22 month old son who is recently very thrilled with Thomas. Guess who sat down and read it for hours? My ten year old daughter who had experienced Thomas as a four year-old. My eight and five year old daughters also enjoy the book. As for the little guy; he walks around with it and sits there ever so gently turning the pages. That's why I'm here at Amazon: to purchase our own copy of this delightful book with beautiful illustrations and stories. If you have a Thomas fan this is the greatest book.

Summary: A great investment!
Review: We bought this book a year ago, and my son still enjoys listening to the stories. He has heard each at least three times, some of them many more times besides. As his mother, who has read through the book with him twice myself, *I* love the stories, too! They teach good lessons and are very entertaining at the same time.

It actually is not true that all Thomas stories are in this book. All the original stories by the original author are, but more stories have been made up by less skilled story writers, in my opinion. The BEST Thomas stories are the ones in this book.

The shorter story books have been Americanized, and I think that makes them lose some of their appeal. For instance, the Fat Controller in this book has been renamed in the shorter books and videos to his proper name, "Sir Topham Hatt." Political correctness meets Thomas the Tank Engine. In my opinion, they were better unchanged, and that is what you have in this book.

If you have a toddler, I highly recommend this book. One word of warning, though. Then come the Thomas train sets, and the videos . . . you will never be through with Thomas once you start!

Summary: A treasure, that children and grandchildren will love.
Review: We purchased five for work colleagues. All thoroughly enjoy the purchase and can't wait to sit down with the children and begin an off to bed reading session One point, though the Book Review - Book Description and synopsis actually are referring to another book. THIS BOOK DOES NOT HAVE SOUND CAPABILITIES. But the children make up for them instead. Otherwise a great book written to be read to your children in people speak rather than toddler speak.
