Summary: Wonderful books
Review: I read these books for the first time when I was 5, and since then have read them at least 12 times. They paint a wonderful picture of early american life, and I would highly reccommend them to people of all ages.

Summary: EVERY YOUNG GIRL SHOULD READ THE LITTLE HOUSE BOOKS!
Review: These book describes in detail the life on the endless prairie in the late 1800's. They are the books that got me interested in reading when I was in 5th grade and I still enjoy them!

Summary: A vivid picture of a long-lost way of life
Review: I was given this set of books as a child by my aunt, and they are dog-eared from many years of use. As an adult, I plan to introduce my children to these stories to show them how life was many years ago, in a simpler time. I have always felt kind of envious of Laura's life - how she experienced and appreciated life to its fullest in a family of limited means. I hope my children get the same sense of the importance of family and nature and happiness, rather than material wealth.

Summary: Great books, Great Fun
Review: I love the Little House books! I have loved them since the first time my mother read them to me and looked forward to reading them myself. I still reread them occasionally and enjoy them just as much. I highly recommend them.

Summary: go Laura!
Review: I've reviewed "Little Houses" in my language translation when I was young. I was surprised by these american pioneers' persistence to be survive in the "new world" they desided to live their lives in. From a little girl who loved sky, river, sun, rain and wind, Laura filled her parents' shoes and be an image of strong woman. She married a farmer and went along the new places she has never been to. Her adventures were more than stories but she made them greater in her books.

Summary: Great family reading!
Review: I read a chapter or two of these books to my kids each night before bed time. It's been our ritual for a couple years now, and we wouldn't trade it for anything! We have made an effort to visit many of the towns that the Ingalls family has lived in. These are the best books I've ever read to my children, without question. I'd highly recommend buying the whole set and starting your own family tradition!

Summary: An adventurous, absorbing book about a young girl's memories
Review: My grandmother gave me this set of books when I was a girl, and today I read a chapter to my children every night. The stories range from charming to scary to side-splitting. Laura, urged by her own daughter to write these books, had vivid memories of her childhood and adult life. She voiced these memories in a fascinating way. I admit, even though I've read these titles numerous times, I often find myself reading on after my children are asleep.

Summary: Sweet, magical, very special
Review: I read "Little House in the Big Woods" for the first time when I was four years old, and have re-read the series almost every year since. Wilder's simple, straightforward language is easy for a child to read and understand alone, yet her characters and relationships have a depth and complexity that keep the stories fascinating for adult readers as well.

Perseverance, responsibility, loyalty and cooperation: these are the core values, never explicitly stated but consistently reinforced, that Wilder's characters embody. Yet all is not sweetness and light in the Ingalls family. Their struggles with bad weather, crop failure and economic troubles form a consistent backdrop for the series; and Laura's jealousy of her blonder, "prettier" sister Mary sounds a bittersweet note throughout.

These books are unique in their perspective of the American pioneer experience, and in their capturing of the wanderlust and striving that drove this family across the continent. They are quietly powerful stories that will stick with you forever... whether you are 4 or 74 the first time you read them.

Summary: A Childhood Favorite of Mine Too!
Review: When I was a little girl in the 1970's I was a big fan of the Little House on The Prairie TV show and I was very happy when one Christmas, probably either 1974 or 1975 I received a boxset of the Little House book series by Laura Ingalls Wilder and I loved the books. I still have my books but no longer have the box they came in and the books have gotten a lot of wear and tear from many people reading them such as myself and with them being borrowed many times over the years by friends, cousins, my niece, etc but that just proves how well loved these books are. The set has 9 books which are all outstanding and are the true life stories and adventures of the real Ingalls family and written by Laura who wrote about her family, what life was like back in the mid to late 1800's etc and the books are Little House in the Big Woods, Little House on the Prairie, On The Banks of Plum Creek, By The Shores of Silver Lake, The Long Winter, Little Town on the Prairie, These Happy Golden Years which introduces Laura Ingall's husband to be, Almanzo Wilder, The First Four Years which details Laura and Almanzo's married life and their daughter Rose plus there is also Farmer boy. Most of the books detail The Ingall's family from their life in their homestate of Wisconsin to their journeys to Kansas, Oklahoma, Minnesota and finally The Dakota Territory which is where Laura met Almanzo but there is also the book Farmer Boy which Laura wrote about Almanzo's account of his childhood on a farm in New York state. These books are great and I highly recommend them to people of all ages, but I especially recommend buying the boxset!
