Rating: Summary: One of 5 books to take to a desert island? Review: If there is any childrens book I never get tired of, it's Brown Bear. My almost 7 year old loved this as a toddler and now reads it to her two year old twin brother and sister - and THEY love it. Its repetition is comforting and familiar, yet never boring. The photos helped her to learn to 'read' it by doing a picture walk long before she could really read other books. The words are so simple she memorized it. And she was so proud of her reading that it inspired her to continue to 'read' this way with other familiar books. VERY highly recommended....even I am not tired of this book. One of the best, IMHO.
Rating: Summary: Try the Spanish Version! Review: This is obviously an all-time classic. I read this book as a child, and now I am reading it to my own children. We bought the Spanish version (sold on Amazon.com) as an introduction to a second language for our children. The simple and straight forward text of this book lends itself wonderfully for this purpose. It is called "Oso Pardo, Oso Pardo, Que Ves Ahi?" It does a beautiful job of teaching animal names, colors, as well as some simple grammar in Spanish. The colorful illustrations are wonderful reinforcements to promote learning with. We could not be happier with our purchase!!
Rating: Summary: good for teaching ESL Review: Like most picture books with a repetitious word pattern in the text, this book is good for teaching English as a second language. It can be used either for a lesson on colors or a lesson on animals.Furthermore, it is easy to set to music. When I set the text to a simple melody and ask for volunteers to play that melody on the xylophone, the kids go wild. It is also interesting to use this book alongside 0152007717, which is written on a similar pattern.
Rating: Summary: Isabelle's first very favorite book! Review: Although our just-one-year-old granddaughter has lots and lots of books, this is absolutely her favorite! I think it's the simple, colorful, big, bright pictures on a two-page spread. We add the animal sounds when we read it and she just giggles in delight! She brings this one to us to be read more often than any of her other books. She also likes Polar Bear, Polar Bear... but not as much as Brown Bear. I'm actually buying a second copy so that she can have one at home and one at Grandma's house.
Rating: Summary: My Son's First Favorite Review: My youngest son has loved the Brown Bear board book since he was about 9 months old. Now at 19 months, it is still his favorite book despite the fact that he probably has over 100 others. We have memorized the text but he continues to loves to look at the illustrations. He also likes, "Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?" but it's definitely his second choice. We have used both books to begin learning colors, animal names, and the sounds that animals make. I only wish the board books were bigger!
Rating: Summary: cute and simple Review: This cute, simple book really sticks with you! It's repetative words, "brown bear, brown bear what do you see?" really hold the kids attention. Its simple pictures and simple words are prefect for little ones. It is also a great way to learn animals and colors but much cuter than one of the many color-oriented books out there. I also love that it is a board book so it doesn't get so beat up. I adore this book but a neighbor came over, read it to the kdis, and then said..."What is this? I could write this and draw those pictures!" Maybe so, but he didn't.
Rating: Summary: My little boy's favorite book Review: My little boy is 13 months old and has loved this book since he was 5 months old. We read it over and over again. He loves the pictures and he can't wait to see which animal is on the next page. He also likes several of Eric Carle's other books. But, he absolutely loves this one. If you are expecting a baby or know someone that is, you won't go wrong with this book. This is definitely a book that our family cannot live without.
Rating: Summary: My 14 months daughter loves it! Review: I bought this book when she was about 9 months. Simple, big and colourful pictures, with repeated words, the book is very good in teaching colors and simple sentence like 'what do you see?'. My daughter cannot wait for me to finish the sentences on each page and flips the pages herself! We read it very frequently.
Rating: Summary: Great at Teaching Names of Animals & Colors! Review: My son was first exposed to this book by speech therapist. He was capitivated by it. She also had a felt board with all the animals, but he quickly learned the names of animals and colors. He would even ask me to read the book before nap time, and we didn't have it. Well, I had to get it and now he helps me read it to his younger sister. A must have for your child's library.
Rating: Summary: The first book she "read" Review: I just spent Thanksgiving with my grqndaughter, age 2 1/2. Her parents read to her every day, continuing the habit my son grew up with. One day, Naia brought me "brown bear" and "read" it to me. Of course, she was reciting from memory, but what fun for both of us! Like others mentioned, we continued the theme, especially in the car, using Naia, Mommy, Grandma, Daddy, etc. I'll always love this book because of this special memory for me with my currently "pre-reading" grandchild.
