Rating: Summary: Funny and well illustrated Review: One can only hope that the author has a sequel planned: Frances the Farting Feline.
Rating: Summary: You have got to be kidding... Review: As a lover of children's books, and one with a great sense of humor, I was shocked to see this book even published. Are we really that desperate for good story lines? While flatulence is a normal occurence for humans and their "best friends" alike, this book just perpetuates rudeness. It's that simple.
Rating: Summary: Funny book for young kids Review: Yes, it's a little crude, but it also deals with something that we all have and makes it funny. The tales of Walter and his gas had me laughing so hard I was crying. Young kids will get a kick out of this. If you do story reading to yound children at schools, this would be a fun book.
Rating: Summary: Walter, the Farting Dog Review: I happened upon this book at a small book store and bought it based on the title. My daughters, ages 6 & 2, loved it! We read it together twice for bedtime. It's a very comical look at how a family learns to accept Walter for who he is.
Rating: Summary: Good Clean and Funny ! Review: My mother and I happened upon this book while shopping one day. The title being so offensive, we decided to check it out. The small bookstore became filled with our laughter as we turned the pages and tears filled our eyes as we read of Walter's "little gas problem ". Fart is a word not used in our household ( we prefer "puffer" ) but the word was so common in the story it almost seemed a lovable attribute for Walter ! A great book with a lot of laughs for any age !
Rating: Summary: Fun, but derivative. A bit expensive for no surprises Review: This is a classic library book: I wish I'd borrowed it from the library instead of buying it. Sure, it's funny for the preschool set. The drawings are cute. But I'd rather check this type of book out from the library for free than buy it.
Rating: Summary: You Have To Laugh Review: My daughter (age 17) and I came across this book in a small bookstore in Roanoke, VA. We laughed out loud as we read it together. The people next to us were smiling, as they had just purchased a copy. It's colorful, cute, and presents an anatomical function in a humorous way. How many people can identify with having gas problems ? In the world today,we all need a good laugh !!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful book with Fabulous Art Review: This is an extremely sweet and funny story, without being sugary. The characters have the most original and interesting faces and bodies, including the adorably strange looking dog of course. There are no cutesy cookie-cutter clones here! Terrific entertainment for adults and children to enjoy together or separately, with lots of clever humor to be found in the artwork alone.
Rating: Summary: Unnecessarily Crude Review: The book is funny, and I have no doubt kids will laugh, but I think parents and librarians alike ought to think twice. The topic is hardly a moral issue, but it brings up unncessary crude discussion. My children will not be reading this. On the plus side, it is one of those awkward ones that needs to be discussed. This book, relying on camp humor, isn't the place to start. I do not recommend "Walter, the Farting Dog." Anthony Trendl
Rating: Summary: Rip-off? Review: I'd echo the comment of another reviewer--the story is cute, the illustrations charming, but the plot is a blatant rip-off of Dav Pilkey's 1994 book, Dog Breath. William Kotzwinkle is one of my favorite authors and usually comes up with original and imaginative story lines, so it's a disappointment to see that he's (intentionally or unintentionally) copied this one from another author.
