Rating: Summary: Funny, touching, sweet story Review: I heard the author and the actual owner of Walter (yes it is based on a true story of an actual dog named Walter!) interviewed on CBC radio on the net (Walter was a Canadian) and could not wait to go out and get it. Walter's owner's tender reminiscing of Walter's "facility or ability or whatever..." was LAUGH OUT LOUD FUNNY. The book is even funnier. I dare you to read it out loud with out losing control! Anyone offended needs to loosen up and get a sense of humour!
Rating: Summary: I wonder what Dav Pilkey has to say about this. Review: I work in a library so I was aware that this book was creating a controversy because of the word Farting which was making all the 8 year old boys clamour after it and was making all the grown-ups want to ban it or at least forget about it. (Librarians, being politically correct types, usually frown on the banning of books. However, they do like offensive books to have some merit besides offensiveness.) I wasn't nearly as disgusted with the content of the book as with it's blatant rip-off of Dogbreath by Dav Pilkey. I recommend Dogbreath instead. It is wittier. Other Dav Pilkey books are also good.
Rating: Summary: Hilarious! Review: I didn't think I was going to be able to finish reading it to my 5 year old son, we were laughing so hard! Cute, funny story.
Rating: Summary: Tooooo FUNNY Review: I am a kindergarten teacher and attended an all day workshop today... what a nice break it was to go on our lunch over to a book display and find a picture book that was just too funny not to add to my personal library! Hence why I am here! I bought the copy I found on the spot...but I had to buy a copy and send it to my niece in Virginia! So she is 6 months old but my sister will get a kick out of it (I only wish I could be there when she gets it in the mail no doubt she will be in tears laughing)... and my niece will too when she is old enough! I can not wait to read it to my students tomorrow and show my fellow teachers my find. This book is great for all ages... and of course there is a moral "weaknesses can be made into strengths..." A must have!
Rating: Summary: Walter the Farting Dog Review: I loved this book, what a chance to sit down and laugh!! I bought it for my six year old nephew and honestly I thought is was much funnier than he did, I laughed everytime I read it. While it may not be a classic, take it for what it is-a chance to just laugh about a fat dog with gas!!
Rating: Summary: Awesome book, thanks! Review: I would just like to say thanks for these great books! I have 2 boys and they think burping and farting are 2 of the greatest and funniest things they can do! Both books are great stories and keep us laughing!!!
Rating: Summary: Well worth the reader's effort. Review: This is a literary tour de force for William Kotzwinkle and his team. Kotzwinkle does not succumb to the fashionable cliches that are clearly evident in the works of intellectual brethren such as Taro Gomi and Shinta Cho. On the contrary, Kotzwinkle succeeds with a steadfast determination to keep the characters in the story as freshly individualistic as possible, without alienating nor insulting the reader. On one hand, one finds that the characters beg a sympathetic empathy with the reader. Yet there is always a nagging contradiction behind the motives of both protagonist and antagonist, which paints an overall motif for the work -- that good and bad are not absolute, but are fuzzy conceptual textures which defy clear definition in the pattern of reality. The only unfortunate aspect of the book is that the final fifth of the novel slowly decelerates and implodes under an untenable quantity of philosophical intricacies, which one can only hope will be addressed in the sequel.
Rating: Summary: Hilarious! Review: My kids love this book! They laugh and laugh through the entire story. I also highly recommend the very funny and colorful "The GigANTic Little Hero," "HumbleBee," and "The Non-Praying Mantis" by Matt Whitlock.
Rating: Summary: Just Read It at the Book Store Review: I have a three and five year old. I picked up the book to preview it before making the purchase. I'm glad I did. It sounded hilarious, but fell short of expectations. I felt it was not at all original. The story was almost the same as "Dog Breath" by Dav Pilkey (which my kids enjoy). So I wasn't as charmed by the story. I noticed other reviewers made this observaton too. Also, I'm okay with the occasional potty-humor, but this book is a little over-the-top. The word, "fart" is mentioned so frequently it got tiresome to read. Before you make the purchase, might I suggest, if you're buying this book for children who can't read yet, you might want to THINK how you feel about reading "FART" OUT LOUD over and over again at story-time. If you're OK with that, and you've never read "Dog Breath" this might be one to add to you're collection. I did like the illustrations, but decided to pass on the purchase.
Rating: Summary: An absolute hoot Review: This book is too funny for words. The illustrations are absolutely awesome too. My only criticism is that it might encourage a child to fart in public and that's not so bad, except other kids may make fun of him/her for that. But maybe I'm being paranoid. I couldn't buy it for anyone, because I was afraid the parent would object. Real shame too, because it's all so perfectly natural. All said, it's definitely one of my favorite children's books.
