Summary: what can i say about mr. potter that hasn't been said befor
Review: well, i had fun reading the harry potter's, that's for sure, if you were living on a diffrent planet and just came back, the plot very brifly, is a young boy discovering that not only he has to potential to be a wisard, he also have a serious and mesterious legacy to follow in his self discovering path. and so he leaves his evil step parents and go have great many adventures with his best freind and quite a few sworn enemies. it's just about what we all hoped for, or still hoping, finding out a great escape root from everyday life into a world where we are exsepted and we are, and basicly admire for it. for me that was the main intrest in the happy potters books. that and unendless action, adventure and quite a lot of humor.

other then them being fun, i have to say that unlike other fantasy sagas i went through, hogwarts and the whole magic world of j.k. rollings is not as convincing, special or interesting. there's no real new approaches to what magic is and how it works, and besicly, we end up with very simple growing up story, that has very little relevence beside raising the questions of who to invite to the school dance or who to deal with your team loosing a match (and i don't really care if it's soccer or not) which is a good thing for itself, but i like books who are more taking you away from mudman reality rather then just nameing things in exsotic names or giving them a nice wraping.

that doesn't mean that i'm not looking for the 5th book, i'll probebly read it and enjoy it, but i doubt if i learn from it anything that's deep or relevent for me.

Summary: Brilliant
Review: My mother is a middle school librarian, so I heard about Harry Potter well before the craze struck the U.S. I read the first book in 1997, when I was in seventh grade, and have since become a Harry Potter fanatic. These books are absolutely fantastic! I would recommend them to anybody, no matter what their age. Despite Harry Potter being labeled as a children's book, as the series progresses the books become far more complex and "adult." So even if you didn't particularly enjoy the first two books, you should try the later ones because they present a deeper and even more fulfilling read.

In GOF especially, Rowling takes the story up another notch and deals with various themes that go beyond simply good versus evil. The idea of community plays a large role, not just within the different houses or the school, but in a larger sense as well. This is evidenced by the words of Dumbledore when he says, "We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided...Differences of habit and language are nothing at all if our aims are identical and our hearts are open." We also see the beginning of adolescence for Harry and his friends, as they become increasingly awkward with the opposite sex. Rowling examines death even more closley, culminating with the death of a student. Hermione's concern for the House Elves's enslavement, and the reluctance of anyone else to get involved, also provide important issues to examine.

However, Rowling deals with these themes in a way that allows the book to still retain its magic. These books, apart from being deep in meaning, are also humorous, adventurous, and entrancing. This is what makes them palatable to such a wide array of readers, and what has made Rowling a worldwide sensation.

Summary: Love it - Love it - Love it
Review: All of these books are so inventive and well written. I read them to my nephews, ages 3, 5, 7 and they keep all of their attentions. My mother who I shall say is a baby boomer, also enjoys these books immensely. There really seems to be no age limit. Rowling comes up with new ideas in everybook and the reader gets to learn along with Harry about dragons, potions, spells, and of course Quiddich. This set was well worth the money I spent on it and it will never be sold at a yard sale. If you want to read a book that is appropriate for young children but has enough wit and humor for an adult, than look no further. Pick up the set or at least one of the books and start exploring the world of magic. Along with Harry, Ron and Hermoine, of course.

Summary: annoying books that wont go away
Review: I have read all the Harry potter books, and I have to say I do not agree with a single review here. The books, while mildly entertaining for a few hours, is definetly NOT the best book in the world. For thoes people that think they are, what do you read? "The baby sitter's club"? I mean, c'mon, what a stupid series.

All the Characters are plain, predictable, and its hard for me to emphasise with any of them. Harry himself is a self- centerd and vain idiot that doesn't do anything except break rules, get in trouble, and for no apparent reason, comes out as the Hero when he didn't even do anything!

If this is waht it takes to get people to read, I would rather they didn't. It takes magic and makes it a joke. Magic isn't something to be written about so lightly! It can be written sensibly. Even the fantastical has to answer to the laws of cause and effect, and no power comes without a price! Please dont compare a kids book like this to Great stories of Tolkin or Jane Yolen. I would recomend Diana Jones' Chrestomanci books. It's like Harry potter in the magic level, but much more practical and realistic. (And magic can be very realisticaly written) Or try Loyd Alexander's Prydain chronicals. Go read His Dark Materials by Pullman.

Summary: Harry Potter Rules
Review: J.K. Rowling is probaly one of the most creative people alive, I mean to imagine Hogwarts with its towers, houses, and classes is amazing.

Book 1: I give it 5 stars, although its not my favorite so far.
Book 2: Very awsome, very dark and thrilling.
Book 3: My favorite book, with its plot turns and awsome characters you'll love it.
Book 4: My second favourite, very dark, I suggest being at least 13 years old before reading, some gross and intense parts.

All and all you'll be very glad that you read these books

Summary: I was a skeptic of how good it could be...
Review: I was a skeptic at thinking these books could be any good. Then I saw the movie and thought that they couldn't be that bad. But reading the first book.. I became addicted. Since then I have read all 4 books and have read them over at least half a dozen times.

These Books are not to be underestimated.. They are VERY addictive and VERY good.

Summary: If I could I would give it a hundred stars!!!
Review: I wasn't interesting in reading this series until I saw the trailer for the first movie. It facinated me, so I went out that very night and bought Sorcerer's Stone. I couldn't put it down. I read completely through it that night. I ran to the nearest bookstore the next morning and bought the next 3 books. I was enthralled. I spent that day and the next reading my new treasures. I didn't stop (and barely slept) until 3pm two days later when I read the last word of Goblet of Fire. I have been a fanatic Harry Potter fan ever since. I have read each book so many times I have lost track. Yet each time I read them I find something new, something I didn't notice before. These books have a quality that makes them timeless. No matter what age you are. I am a college student who showed up to the premiere of the first movie an hour early because I was too excited to wait. I eagerly look forward to the next installment with anticipation. :)

Summary: the books are the magic
Review: I'm sorry for the people who are looking for just another Harry Potter review, for I'm not going to write one.
I happen to be a seventeen year old foreign exchange student from Germany and not France - so go on reading.
The whole Harry Potter series fascinated me from the first to the fourth book and I'm longing to get a grip on 'The Order of The Phoenix', but since my native language is not English I started reading the books in German and reread the US-Version as well as the British-Version over here and have to admit that in some bizare way the British-Version pleased me even more than the German one, although the translation is excellent and it reads as if it was written that way in the first place.
Now, after this short introduction, I am eventually go to make my point: if you have to make the decision whether to buy the book or the movie for children or as a present or gift, ALWAYS buy the book.
I watched both movies and don't dare to say that they are poorly made, but would strongly recommend to read the books first and allow everybody to imagine the world of Harry Potter for themselves before giving to them the premade Hogwarts of WB.

Summary: An UNBELIEVEABLE story.
Review: Ok, I was reading some of the other reviews and I was absolutly disgusted! J.K. Rowlings works are MASTERPIECES!!!! I would just like to warn all those who have read the nasty reviews. They are saying that stuff only 'cause they know that Mrs. Rowling is getting money off this and everyone loves it. It's truly amazing how everyone can make something horrible out of something that's a sucess. I wont tell you the amazing storyline because youve probaly already heard and I don't want to ruin it for you. I just find that to be that ignorant and then say "will you please vote for my review" is just plain stupid. Read the Harry Potter books NOW and if you already have.....errr... READ 'EM AGAIN!

Summary: These books aren't just for kids
Review: I just turned 30, but I absolutely ate up the first four Harry Potter books! They brought back great Narnia and Wizard of Oz memories from my childhood. The stories and characters were complicated, rich and just plain fun enough that even "old" me loved them!

I realize I'm not telling you anything you haven't heard before, but I wanted to add my two cents and say that Harry Potter is a modern classic. I'm positive my *grandchildren* will be reading these books alongside the Narnia and Oz books, and loving them. I don't doubt for a moment that I too will enjoy dusting them off in the years to come and taking a mental spin with Harry on his Firebolt at Hogwart's -- even when I'm an old granny.
