Rating: Summary: Best Books Ever! Review: These books are simply amazing. It's so unbelivable that the entire world can get so caught up in this Harry Potter frenzy. I have been waiting for Book 5 for quite some time now and I am ecstatic that its just a few hours away. Funny thing its also 2 days after my birthday. To all of those Harry Potter readers out there I hope you always keep reading and believe that you too could fly on a broomstick, take platform 9 and 3/4 to Hogwarts, battle dragons, and face incredible danger while not leaving the comfort of your own home. I know I will. Thanks J.K Rowling, you have brought back my ingenious imagination which I had somehow managed to lose in the crazyness of everyday life!Sincerely, Monica C.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter is more than it seems... Review: Yes, you can take these books lightly and just see them as children fantasy books, or you can read into them deeply. Rowling has done her homework...every reference to anything magical or any character are derivations of real magical myths, or Greek mythology, or latin magic spells that real witches tried using in early AD. There are important morals and values that she portrays including: racism, politics, right from wrong, etc. You can choose to read these books lightly and just see them as a children's book, or you can really try to understand what she is showing us...
Rating: Summary: Making a Difference Review: I wonder if J.K. Rowling knew what she was doing when she wrote these books! They are so much more than great stories of charms and spells. She's taken children who don't have any desire to read and shown them that reading is fun and exciting. The Harry Potter series has taken so many kids away from the tv, game systems, and computer... and put them into a new world of reading. Not many 12 year olds could say before these books that they had read a 700 page novel, but J.K. Rowling created a story so amazing that these children would rather read 700 pages than sit in front of a tv. I've read all four of these books numerous times and have extremely enjoyed them. Even though they are said to be geared for ages 8-11, I'm 18 and can't wait for Book 5 to come out tomorrow. I'm sure that ever other Harry Potter fan shares my excitement!!!
Rating: Summary: Just for kids??? No way. Review: I love the Harry Potter series, and I'm a 20 year old Junior at UT. I know tons of people my age that read this series and absolutely love it, in fact my elder acquaintances (late 30's) also love the series. I didn't discover the Harry Potter books until my father gave me a copy of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" to read in case I got bored (he had a free copy). I aimlessly picked it up one day and couldn't put it down! This is the best series I've ever read. Having a Harry Potter book is like getting a passport to travel into another world, the wizarding world! You'll love it!
Rating: Summary: NOT JUST FOR KIDS!!! Review: It's a shame the Harry Potter books and movies are being marketed to kids. ANYONE who appreciates excellent writing with incredible intrigue, totally unexpected twists and enormous heart, without the gratuitous bad language and sex would love these books! Not only is J. K. Rowling is an excellent writer, but her main characters exemplify the virtues of friendship, compassion, knowledge, bravery and loyalty. They should be role models for everyone, not just kids! She humanizes the characters with plenty of humor, incredible imagination and details that make them come alive! Okay...so what if I read the first four books non-stop and the laundry didn't get done? I can't wait for the next book! And this comes from someone with 30 years experience as an editor and in public relations on two continents! So what if I AM a grandmother? I RECOMMEND HARRY POTTER TO ANYONE WHO ISN'T AFRAID TO BE SCARED OR ISN'T ASHAMED TO ADMIT THAT FANTASY CAN MAKE US YOUNG!
Rating: Summary: J.K.'s Success! Review: Harry Potter books 1-4 have changed my life. One day, I'm sitting on my bed on summer break doing nothing, the next day, I'm hooked on the first book. Each Harry Potter book just takes you away to a new place. Ever since I started reading those books, I just had to buy, borrow, or rent the next book. Before I close off, I just want to say a few things about J.K. Rowling. She's made me believe that if you keep your mind on something, you just keep going for it. I'm deeply impressed on her books. I can't believe she turned out to be a famous author just by making one simple book. It's amazing!!! I can't wait for the next book Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. And now, one last thing; J.K. Rowling, YOU ROCK!!!!
Rating: Summary: Harry Rocks! Review: If you have not yet read any of the Harry Potter novels then I can only assume you live under a rock! I myself resisted joining the bandwagon until all of the first four novels were written. While in college I decided why see what all the hype was about and I was hooked after the first paragraph of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone". These novels may have been written with kids in mind but they also appeal to the adult who is willing to have a little fun and experiment with a little magic!
Rating: Summary: Thank you JK Rowling Review: I thought that these books were way over dramatized, until I read them. I normally try to avoid popular trends, as they lead to lack of individuality. But, as a part time substitute teacher, I was in a 7th grade class one day where the students were actually good! Bored, I began browsing the teacher's shelves for a good book to get me through my day. I saw Harry Potter, and thought "Why not? It can't be all that bad." I was completely right. It was and is still the best thing I have ever read, besides the following three in the series. While desperately awaiting the fifth book, I keep stumbling onto reviews for the first four. I am shocked and deeply disappointed that there are people in the world who have read them and still do not like these books. I could tell you my addiction to the series in detail, or the facts you have already heard about how these books are actually getting kids to read and are experiencing such wide-spread popularity, but instead I will fire away at the VERY few readers that have placed bad reviews on here. 1. These books are NOT a waste of trees. 2. As a long time fan of the Chronicles of Narnia and Lord of the Ring, Harry Potter IS much better. 3. The only ways these books are predictable are if you have read them before, somehow found out what happens, or if you can see into the future. I can usually predict what happens in stories, but these books had me stumped until the very end. Some details I figured out, but the meat of the climax was incredibly exciting. 4. These books are NOT hard to understand. To the people who said that, I must insist that you reread them, because I know many average 7-year-olds who had no trouble with these. That's pretty much it. I have been holding off writing my own review because, let's face it, everyone else already has. But, tonight, when I saw ten or so negative remarks, I HAD to say something.
Rating: Summary: STELLAR!!! Review: I didn't read this specific set, but the paperback UK editions - I was in England when I first got "hooked." But I have read all four books several times over; I frequently catch a lot of teasing from family and friends from having read the series so many times. It's an amazing series, captivating to adults and children alike. A word of caution to any parents who may have notyet come across this delightful series: the later books may not be appropriate for younger children. Ms. Rowling herself has told her fans the series will get "darker." However, in this age of gratuitous sex and violence and instant gratification, this series is refeshingly different.
Rating: Summary: These actually get better as you go. Review: I'm not much of a fan of fantasy as such. However these are so well written and so well received by kids that I think anyone who likes science fiction should read them. I still think Asimov's Foundation Trilogy is still far better for young readers, but these are very good and deserve to be as popular as they are.
