Rating: Summary: Harry Potter books Review: Many people are saying the Harry Potter books are bad for children. I totally disagree!! They are a wonderful fantasy for all ages. I loved them as well as my family did. The Wizard of Oz had a witch and I never once when I was little thought she was real or that monkeys could fly. And what about Merlin? He was a wizard and some people will tell you that was history. Personally I think the Harry Potter books are for all.
Rating: Summary: Excellent for all ages Review: I am a 22 year-old Graduate student and I LOVE Harry Potter books! I am completely addicted to them. I have read 2 in the last 48 hours. I would recommend them to anyone at any age. This boxed set is a great deal and would be something any muggle or wizard would enjoy.
Rating: Summary: I couldn't believe it! Review: I am a 22 year old female in the work forse. I can honestly say, the four Harry Potter books which have been released, are my very first books I have read from front to back. Thank you J.K.Rowling for allowing my imagination to go where it has never gone before.
Rating: Summary: With Love From England - Agree With 17 Nov. Reviewer, Pat C. Review: As a fellow English woman, I am certainly proud of J.K.Rowling. I have had fun with her imagination and fantasies. Having said that, however, I find that I am also compelled to agree with your previous reviewer Pat C. from 17 November 2001 who said, "Great Fun, And Valuable To Our Kids,--- IF". He or she is right-on with the caution about just laughing-off Harry Potter's little lying and cheating and breaking the rules when it is convenient to solve a problem. That is teaching "the end justifies the means". We must not have that all over again, if you catch my meaning. And, I actually loved the mature and poetic flow of "IF" at the end of Pat C.'s review. "IF" certainly is what every Mum and Dad should be concerned with regarding "Harry Potter". I am so impressed with that review itself that, after my son finishes the "Harry Potter" books, I shall buy the book that Pat C. recommended ("West Point" by Norman Thomas Remick). So sorry to cause a blip in the lovefest going on with "Harry Potter" by giving it four stars rather than five. But, I do have some concerns about the subtle character nuances. Nevertheless, I would recommend having your kids read it, after you have supplied the appropriate simple cautions about Harry Potter's "breaking the rules".
Rating: Summary: In Defense of Harry Potter Review: These books are so wonderful and have given me so many hours of pleasure that I am actually shocked to see the controversy they have created in some circles...call me naive. I am over 40, the third oldest of 10 children and have been a voracious reader all my life. Look, people...kids are ornery. They do things...and so do adults, if we are being honest. I find the adventures Harry gets into uplifting because I know that nothing really awful is ever going to happen to him, with the exception of growing up! Ms. Rowling gives you that confidence pretty much from the beginning. You can find evil in anything. But Hogwarts even offers a "Defense Against the Dark Arts" class, where Harry learns to pull strength from within himself to ward off evil. HELLO! This is what we should be teaching our kids! So Harry and his friends don't do everything right, which is just fine with me because life isn't black and white. Here's a kid bouncing back from an abusive childhood of being taunted, ridiculed and locked in a closet. All this because of the FEAR-based muggle world in which he lives. He could have turned out a lot worse. GO HARRY!
Rating: Summary: Awesome! Review: I am 30 years old and a successful business owner and I love the Harry Potter books. There is no age limit and the stories just seemingly capitivate you. Imagine a book that you can share with the kids and Grandma and Grandpa. This one is capable! Everyone should read these books.
Rating: Summary: For all children at heart! Review: The Harry Potter books are one of the best books I'v ever read, just perfect for all people who still have big imaginations. Considering growing up with all the Disney characters, who wouldn't want another kind of child-like fun & adventure? This is exactly the right time for another phenomenal book series to come. Children now are so lucky to have this, as alternative to famous "happily ever afters" of Disney. This would surely perk up their imagination & let them explore with the other side of magic! To J.K. Rowling, keep the books coming!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: I really enjoy the Harry Potter collection. Not only are these books well-written, the author also refuses to condescend to children with Jar-Jar Binks-esque stupidity and Disney-style slapstick comic relief. Witty and intense, these books should leave any adolescent with a sense of importance and uniqueness. Although I'm twenty-two, I'm not so old that I forget what life was like at that age. The imagination is a horrible thing to waste, and I believe these books are wonderful for encouraging independent thinking and cleverness.
Rating: Summary: What a disappointment! Review: Big hype over nothing. These books are poorly written and contrived. I have a hard time understanding how any educated adult could get excited about them. There was no way I could even finish the fourth book (I kept trying to to see what people saw in them) and will NOT read the fifth, etc. - just more of the same thing. I'm sure the only reason people have gotten excited about them is from all the publicity they have received.
Rating: Summary: Magical Review: I am almost 50 years old and I can not get enough of Harry Potter, it is the most exciting reading and listening I have every done. I own the cd collection so I can listen to it while I work. I find I am on pins and needles waiting for the next book. I will collect everything they have dealing with Harry Potter and I am not a collector of anything. I must admit I have become and Harry Potter junkie :O).
