Summary: An excellent diversion
Review: These books are good, clean fun. They don't talk down to children and that's why I would highly recommend them to youngsters. Anyone who tells you there is Satanism within these pages are either stuffy old people or just idiots.

Summary: Getting better all the time
Review: I started reading these books out of curiosity, to see what the craze was all about. The first 2 I thought were cute and light reading, which is great in between some of the heavier more intense series I often read. However, book 3 started filling in the blanks and background of Harry and his parents, thus fleshing out his character, and making him more enjoyable. Book 4 however, was better than all of the others. The story was much more involved and interesting, with lots of twists and turns. You're not sure from one moment to the next who is the "good guy" and who is the "bad guy". I can't wait for the next book to come out; I just hope things keep getting better with each and every one. Go Harry!

Summary: Harry's Secret
Review: First off, I'm sixteen, and I have read all four of these novels, as well as,witnessed the splurge of excitement surrounding each release, and all that good stuff. However, I have also, like most I'm sure, seen the hatred of Rowlings words. In the begining, my sisters introduced me to the first novel, and I enjoyed it, as well as the three following it. J.K. goes into the texts, highlighting the details, and through her intense stories, is able to create characters and situations which tear out ones emotions. She as has been said "creates a whole new world" where the trials of ordinary life rarely matter, and we each get a new creative vision. Yet as with all great stories, they don't just appear one day and are not just written without thought on a napkin in a diner. Rowling, perhaps subconsiosly, grabbed ideas from other such stories, that also are known for thier enchantment, and took them all together to create Harry Potter. Ever ...
~Seen the movie Labyrinth- hoggle is called hogwarts by the goblin king, david bowie
~Read/Seen the Lord of the Rings- numerous similarities
~Seen the movie The Worst Witch- english witch school, same morals, plus more
~Read C.S. Lewis - Narnia is the whole hidden magic world, etc.

She did not write this series alone, yet had help from many other greats. Although the stories are good, and obviously people enjoy them, they are not the most original works out there. I highly suggest reading them, yet NOT becoming excessively drawn to the Harry Potter addiction. For kids, don't buy them all the posh merchandise, instead, try letting them read what they want, yet making sure that they read.
Try broadening their horizons by making them read exciting classics when they are younger.
ALL IN ALL, READ IT, BUT DON'T CRAZE!!

Summary: Highly recommended
Review: Read these books with your kids or read them by yourself, but read them. Harry Potter is one of the few contemporary books that totally lives up to the hype, and in fact, I think the toys and etcetera don't live up to the book. Rowling is clever and witty, funny and poignant, writing at a level that is intelligent enough for adults but clear enough for kids.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: I would give the book 5 stars but...
Review: The witchcraft in here is all fake magic. I know a heck of alot more about witchcraft then Harry Potter because I am a REAL witch. We are accually called Wicca or Pegan or Celtics. However besides that desturbing deltail, the books are very good. They keep your attention and the detail is incredable.

Summary: Excellent purchase
Review: J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series has captured the imaginations and hearts of her audience worldwide. This boxed set contains the first four books, HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE, HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS, HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN, and HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE.

Rowling has created a world of fantastic depth populated by enthralling characters. Although Harry's world is one containing magic and elements of the occult, these are secondary to the themes emphasized throughout the series: the value of friendship, the power of courage, and the might of compassion. These are ideas that can be learned and cherished by the youngest of readers, yet still be relevant to older readers.

Rowling writes with a clear, concise, and light-hearted style that makes for easy reading. The vocabulary required to understand Harry Potter is usually within the grasp of the average fourth grader. However, there is not a hint of condescension in her writing; she expects the reader to fully comprehend the language and ideas presented. This combination makes the Harry Potter series an excellent example of what constitutes good children's literature that can still be highly entertaining to adults.

In short, a highly recommended purchase. For those who are looking for an excellent gift to a grade-school child, or even to an adult who has yet to be introduced to the wonderful world of Harry Potter, this boxed set is definitely a worthwhile purchase.

Summary: In response to CEM
Review: CEM- Just because a book is written in plain language doesn't mean it's not literature. You claim that Rowling doesn't know how to write true literature because Harry Potter is written in an easy-to-read format and that you don't have to read a sentence more than once to see what the author is truly saying? Well, did it occur to you that just maybe Rowlings intended it to be that way? One of the reasons Harry Potter is as popular as it is is exactly because you DON'T HAVE to read every sentence 3 times to figure out what is trying to be truly said. That is the beauty of it. To read Harry Potter is relaxing to the mind. It is definately true literature in more ways than one.

Summary: Incredible
Review: I was the only one in my family that hadn't read any of these books and had resisted everyone's urgings for 3 years. Well, I had to get my wisdom teeth pulled and decided to read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Needless to say, I read all 4 books in 3 days. Probably the best mix of fantasy and reality that I've read to date.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Exquisite(Excellent)
Review: The only thing I can say about this book "fantastic!!" There are many humors, has well descriptive sentence, good plotline, very creative, character developement...I can go on and on. After use finish the book, you will wish for more.

This book is also not only for children, but for adult as well. There riddles and clues that would give hints of whats comming, and people will have fun guessing the "bad guys" even if you would get it wrong.

Who probably should NOT read this book: hopelessly humorless, literal-minded grumps, grouches, and other misfits with no sense of fun or imagination
