Rating: Summary: Wonderful series! Review: This is an excellent series of books that I have enjoyed greatly and recommend to all my friends, both young and old alike. Grown-ups will get a kick out of this book as well as children. I only hope that the author does not get tired of writing these wonderful books, because I certainly will never get tired of reading them.
Rating: Summary: good but not great Review: I was interested to read the Harry Potter Series given the incredible hype they had received. I expected them to be on par with the Chronicles of Narnia, A Wrinkle in Time, and The Hobbit, which were the classics I read as a child. While I enjoyed reading the Harry Potter series - they are fun and a quick read, they really didn't compare to the other books I just mentioned. The writing is simple but entertaining, and I liked the world she created. However I have to say that I was disappointed at the end of each book because there always was a quick resolution that lacked a more intricate unfolding. I think its great that kids of all ages are excited to be reading - but if you liked Harry Potter, I STRONGLY suggest trying the other books - which are more sophisticated in plot and message.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Books Review: I enjoyed every page of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. Whether in grade school or college and beyond, they mantain your interest until the very last page. I would recommend the book before the movie, as the books go into much more detail.
Rating: Summary: ? Review: An acme of human stupidity which simply proves an adulation for opium virtues: friendship, pity, etc... I cannot see how any one could be proud of reading this book or seeing the film. If you prefer to be seen as a lowly sickly insect in the eyes of the more educated you have found an expedient route towards that disposition. The publication and popularity of this pablum proves that I could also perhaps write 5 books about nonsense and earn fame and money. Whenever I see this book one quote comes to mind from Nietzsche: "That everyone may lear to read, in the long run corrupts not only writing but also thinking.Once the spirit was god, then he became man, and now he even becomes rabble." A perfect archetype of substance-less degrading piece of literature this Harry Potter seems...I recommend it for a mentally depraved, domesticated, effeminate, foolish, sheep-like creature. Pardon if I have offended those who have read it and have enjoyed it immensely.
Rating: Summary: DEFINITELY not just children's books Review: I know so many others, who were also in college, when we read this series. Everyone was captivated and sort of brought back to their childhood, and only had good things to say about it. I read the 4 back to back and couldn't put them down, you just have to know what happens next. I would definitely read these before you watch any of the movies that are out. It was cool to see the movies, to see all the magic come to live, but then the actors' faces were in my mind when i was reading the Order of the Phoenix (the 5th and most recent book in the series). There is a reason why most people say the books are always better than movies. It's the best when it's your own imagination manifesting the book!
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter makes me feel like I'm in a magical world Review: I think you should read Harry Potter because it's totally different than anything I have read before. It is so suspensful, because Harry might die in every book. I like it so much that I redecorated my room like Harry Potter. I used to think Harry Potter was dumb then someone said I should read it and I have not put the books down since.
Rating: Summary: Very Good Review: These books are my favourite books to read to just escape. First of all, they let you imagine a place that doesn't exist, exist. She descirbes with such details and interesting choices of words that before you know it you are done with the book. I rank the first four books in the following order greatest to least, although I give each of them about 5 stars. 1.) Prisoner of Azkaban (3) 2.) Goblet of Fire (4) 3.) Chamber of Secrets (2) 4.) Socerous Stone (1) After these ones you'll definantly want to check out book 5. Which is very good as well. While you wait for the 6th book I suggest reading the following books: Angels and Demons, The Da Vinchi Code, Congo, Timeline, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer books.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter books Review: Great books! Excellent story line in all the books. Rowling has done an outstanding job of captivating readers, young and old and those somewhere between.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST BOOKS EVER!!! Review: READ THESE BOOKS I MEAN IT THERE THE BEST BOOKS EVER AND HER BEST BOOK IS NUM.5 BUT DON'T READ IT INTILL YOU'VE READ THE FIRST 4!!!
Rating: Summary: Some of the best books I've ever read. Review: I'm 20 years old and I llove to read and I believe that these four books are some of the books I've ever read. I know alot of people around my age love them too. Actually I've yet to meet anyone thats read them and not at least liked them. my nephew that is six loves the stories as well. My thought to you if you're even thinking to buy these books you're on the right track you'll love them and read them over and over again. The only advice that should be told to anyone about any book really is- read a few pages if you don't seem interested then chances are you will never really get into the book at all. Don't waste your time find something that really lights your fire.
