Rating: Summary: good books, but bad binding Review: The books are a great read, but they are put together terribly. I bought the books 1.5 years ago and upon their third use they are falling apart. I would suggest to anyone who wants good copies of these books to buy the paperbacks or other hardbacks.
Rating: Summary: A classic of our times! Review: Wizards, magic, imaginary worlds, unicorns--you name 'em all! And those things can only be found in the magical world of Harry Potter, the best series since Lord of the Rings! Like Tolkien, J. K. Rowling has the rare talent for creating imaginary worlds that come alive for us to explore.Orphaned at an early age, young Harry Potter is mocked, humiliated, and neglected by his gruesome aunt and uncle, and is under the shadow of his cousin, Dudley Durseley. He has little firends, and no adventures, but he unknowingly is developing strange powers. Then on his eleventh birthday, Harry discovers that he is actually a wizard, and that he is called to come to Hogwarts School to learn more about his wizard world! With loads of humor, fun and excitement, we join Harry as he learns the mysterious ways of magic for about seven years! Throughout the books, Harry always finds trouble as he tries to save the day from evil!
Rating: Summary: The Best Review: I have found that the Harry Potter series is for kids and kids at heart of all ages. Once you start reading Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone you can't stop. I find that it is the same for the whole series. Every time you read it you find things that you didn't the first time. It is really easy to visualize what is going on.
Rating: Summary: Awful? Yeah, right. Review: Ok, 1) to all adults who say these books ..., I bet you haven't even read them. I know two 30-year-old's who read the book and are just as excited as me for the 5th book. That's saying something. Ok, so I am sort of a bookworm, so what. These books beat any book I've ever read, unless you count manga, which don't count for reading anyway. Anyway, each book gets bigger, which lets kids ability to read grow. The books get better book-after-book and once you get to the 2nd book that's hard to believe. Anyway, at least read the first and second, and if you don't like it there, then leave it.
Rating: Summary: Welcome back to Hogwarts Review: I love Harry Potter. Its all I think about. I sleep, eat, and dream about Harry Potter. It is 100% better than Lord of The Rings. When I turned 11 I hoped that I woud get my letter from Hogwarts.
Rating: Summary: I can't get enough! Review: It took me a while to pick up the Harry Potter series - not being someone to play into hype - however, after finishing reading the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings series, I decided to pick up the Sorcerer's Stone - I never looked back. Honestly the best series I have ever read, so imaginitive, so fun - the only problem is I don't quite know what to do now that I'm finished book 4. Great for kids and adults alike!
Rating: Summary: If you like magic get this series Review: I loved this series because it is filled with magic and rich fantasy.Rowling is a genius. My favorite is the third book. I highly recomend this book to any magic lovers out there.
Rating: Summary: Read them now!!! Review: Like the title says, if you haven't read the Harry Potter series, go read it now!!! This is the best book i've ever read...it's what got me to start reading in the first place! Harry's adventures throughout the entire book keep you at the edge of your chair till the very end. JK Rowling has a way of writing that'll keep you mesmerized until you finish reading them all. There just isn't a single word that describes how truly amazing Harry Potter is. Honestly speaking, these books changed my life...when I was reading I just couldn't seem to put them down, and now with the 5th book coming out everybody'll start reading them all again. It's just like Pringles: Once you pop, you just can't stop!
Rating: Summary: Great but watch out for missing chapters Review: Not much need to discuss this publishing phenomena. I purchased the packaged set in November of 2001 and have since read it several times. I have the same tingle of anticipation for Volume 5 as I did 40 years ago while waiting for the next Hardy Boys Mystery to be published. I do caution you that Scholastic has been quite slipshod in the production of these books. Volume 2, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, is missing an entire chapter. I only discovered it after viewing the movie and seeing the dueling club scene on screen but did not remember having read it in the book...Heaven only knows what other portions are missing. Note-Amazon.com was marvelous in replacing the defective set with a new one even though the purchase was a year old. Great customer service.
Rating: Summary: fun, magic and mystery WRITTEN FOR KIDS!! Review: In semi-response to Alex, these books were originally written for kids ages 9-12--and that age group adores them. I agree they should not be compared to Lord of the Rings, as these two book series are on very different levels, but we all can have a little fun with the kid inside and have an imaginative, easy read to de-stress our adult lives. I may just try his book suggestions though...thanks.
