Rating: Summary: Fantastic Review: I've personally loved this book ever since I first laid eyes on it in preschool, and now that I have a (destructive) son, this is the perfect book! He loves to look at the pictures, and I love that it's so durable! A must have!
Rating: Summary: One of my child's favorites! Review: Highly entertaining and vividly illustrated! A bedtime must! For other great 'buggy' stories, I highly recommend "The GigANTic Little Hero," "HumbleBee," and "The Non-Praying Mantis" by Matt Whitlock.
Rating: Summary: Mixed feelings Review: Young kids like the book for the bright colors and the holes. As an overweight adult I feel conflicted about the book's message that while overeating will make you sick it will also turn you into a something better.
Rating: Summary: This is a great Spring book to read! Review: In school we also "grow" real butterflies and we read this book and we watch the butterflies "hatch" The children are very interested in this book because they can relate to his growing up and all the foods that he eats that become beautiful colors.Great Book! Rating: Summary: Fun Review: This is a cute story about a caterpillar who spends his week eating his way through fruits and other foods. At the end of the week he spins a cocoon and turns into a butterfly. The book is not scary at all. It introduces readers to the days of the week. Unfortunately, the book isn't exactly accurate about the diet of caterpillars, since it shows the caterpillar eating salami and ice cream. But you allow Carle to be creative with his caterpillar diet, it's worth the fun. The page for each day of the week is a different size, and they all have holes in them, adding a multimedia dimension to the book. All together, the book has about 200 words.
Rating: Summary: An old favorite! Review: This story has been a favorite of mine for years, and now I have young children to enjoy it all over again! We got this little book-and-toy set for my 9-month-old daughter because she kept chewing on our good copy. The caterpillar plush quickly became a beloved toy, and she loves for us to tell the story using it. As the caterpillar eats through the various items in the book, her caterpillar "nibbles" at her nose, tummy, and toes. It's so much fun, that my three year old now tells the story by memory, complete with caterpillar friend "eating" the baby! :)
Rating: Summary: why do I love this book so much? Review: I can't quite put my finger on it, but for some reason this is my absolute favorite children's book. Maybe it's the twist ending, maybe it's the simpleness of it, but it's just a winner. And the little guy loves it and demands it every night, so it's tops in our house.
Rating: Summary: One of my favorite books! Review: I remember having this book read to me when I was a child. I am an avid reader and I would like very much for my son to have a love of books. He has many of Eric Carle's books (quiet cricket, polar bear, brown bear, grouchy ladybug etc - all of which I highly recommend also!) but this is one of our favorites. We read it every night together. It is simple, colorful and funny. It combines food, days of the week and numbers, as well as the life cycle of the caterpillar. It is books like this that introduce children to a lifetime of fun and enjoyment with reading.
Rating: Summary: Beloved to Baby Review: First and most important: Baby loves the book. Secondly: This is a great story that includes elements of counting, learning the days of the week, learning about different types of food, and about the caterpillar life-cycle. Thirdly: If baby gets real wiggly, it's easy to summarize quickly: Caterpillar is born. Caterpillar PIGS OUT. Caterpillar gets stomach ache. Caterpillar builds cocoon. Butterfly emerges.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Choice Review: My grandmother gave me a book every birthday and Christmas - my favorite presents - and this year I thought I would start that tradition with my nine younger nieces and nephews. It worked! In the center of a room full of battery-operated fire engines and the like, Aaron (3) asked for "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" to be read aloud to him twice even before all the other gifts were unwrapped. What better testament to the author and illustrator - thank you.
