Rating: Summary: A Great Book for Little Ones Review: I have been teaching 3-5 year olds for seven years, and they love this book. They ask me to read this book every day. We have made art projects to go along with it as well as food experiences. The children learn the days of the week, they learn foods that are good for you and foods that are not. I am now doing a book project for my college class on the book. I will continue to read this book to my children in my class as well as to my grandchild.
Rating: Summary: A ver excellent book Review: This book is good for the young child who likes to explore and is active. The pages progress in size which makes it fun for the child. The story is a wonderful illustration of how a caterpillar turns into a beautiful butterfly.
Rating: Summary: A must-read for preschoolers Review: This is without a doubt a classic! The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle is a book that my mom read to me pre- kindergarten. I recently picked it up in a bookstore and was amazed at how it still brought back the feeling of wonder at the mysteries of nature. No, it is not meant to be a factual text that teaches scientific concepts to preschoolers -- neither are fairy tales and nursery rhymes, but I don't hear anybody saying they were disappointed in the lack of accuracy of Mother Goose! Instead, this delightful little gem does something much more valuable; it sparks interest and a sense of wonder. That is something only the best books are capable of.
Rating: Summary: A nice book Review: My son loves this book, I am very glad we got it for our son
Rating: Summary: A good beginner book! Review: This books appeals to a wide audience. My son who is only 17 months old --laughs every time the caterpillar eats all that food. Enjoyable and educational!
Rating: Summary: My cousin can't get enough of this book! Review: Once I read this book to my cousin, and she got me to read it again. I've read this book to her so many times, I know it off by heart. the illustrations in this book are great! I got this book when I was four and i still have it. I recomend this book to all pre-schoolers.
Rating: Summary: Rubbish Review: This book has seriously hindered my son's development. After reading the book to him religiously before bedtime, he now believes himself to be just like the caterpillar. He claims to be very hungry all the time. He is constantly eating, and is becoming noticeably heavier. Unfortunately in his case I don't believe that he will turn into a beautiful butterfly at the end!
Rating: Summary: Not accurate information Review: At the preschool I work at, VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR was read during "butterfly week". As a butterfly gardener, and someone who raises caterpillars indoors and releases the butterflies once they've emerged, I was very dissapointed by this book. The real facts of the life cycle of the butterfly are fascinating for any child, but the author chose to write a fictional book on how much caterpillars eat, including all sorts of human foods. Also butterflies do not spin cocoons--moths do. The preschoolers learned very little from this book.
Rating: Summary: I remember being read this book ... Review: Though I was born in the year this book was first published (1969), I remember having this book read to me. The fruits shown were real for me : I can still recall the mouthwatering feeling the illustrations gave me. The book is a must-have in any 4-year-old's collection.
Rating: Summary: Made me an Eric Carle fan Review: What a great book! Wonderfully illustrated and very clever. The book teaches concepts of more, the days of the week, counting, without the tediousness of some of the more textbook-like books. Additionally, it tells a very cute story which is sure to hold lots of appeal to your toddler.
