Rating: Summary: A fun, witty, classic tale. Review: We have this book in a small and large size together with anEric Carle videotape that has the story. A young caterpillar is bornand begins to eat his way through the world and through many foods that you child will be able to identify. These foods are eaten on each of the seven days of the week, an added bonus, as your child begins to learn that Sunday is a different day that Monday. The caterpillar gets very fat. He builds a cocoon and then emerges a large beautiful butterfly. My 3 year old does not tire of this story. He learns about nature, food and the days of the week in one absolutely stunningly illustrated book. You can't get much better than this for young children. If you have young children, or if you are looking for a gift for a 4 year old and younger child, this book is highly, highly recommended. Enjoy.
Rating: Summary: The Very Hungry Caterpillar Review: This was a very informative book about the life cycle of a caterpillar into a butterfly.Note to teachers: It taught numbers, days of the week, and different types of foods eaten by the caterpillar. Lots of different art activities can be done, such as creating a caterpillar out of an egg cartoon.
Rating: Summary: Charming and effective...what we'd all like to read our kids Review: This book is simply great. It has helped my son (2 1/2) with counting and identifying pictures and the concept of reading a book. The different size pages (and the holes) make the reading fun. Both of us still laugh each time the caterpillar gets a stomach ache (sorry, are there spoilers for children's books?). I am convinced that this is the first book my son will read to me from start to finish (BUT HE WAS STILL HUNGRY!). He loves it!
Rating: Summary: Just as good as I remembered Review: Sometimes it's scary revisiting a childhood favorite. A book we remember as haunting and lovely turns out to be trite and dull; the words that moved us when we were young now sound banal. The Very Hungry Caterpillar Board Book has aged beautifully. The classic cover remains unchanged, and the bright, whimsical artwork inside brings me back with a rush. What a great book to rediscover with your children! Charlie, my youngest, actually abandoned his beloved Pokemon to investigate the Caterpillar. After reading this book with your children, you'll have a hard time squashing another caterpillar.
Rating: Summary: The Very Hungry Child Review: The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a beautifully illustrated, simply told story of a caterpillar who turns into a butterfly. The caterpillar eats through everything and the book actually has holes through all the food; my 8 month old daughter is fascinated at the colours, the repetition of the STILL hungry part and the holes that she tries to fit her fingers through. She gets very excited as the last page draws nearer and the beautiful butterfly is revealed. This book is a classic; I loved it as a child and it will continue to be loved by children twenty years from now. A wonderful book for children...of all ages! This is a must have.
Rating: Summary: My son's favorite book Review: This has been my two year old son's favorite book for about the last six months. He wants me to read it again and again. He is now learning to count and with each of the fruits he counts them out loud...1,2,3,4,5 oranges. And he always gets excited when we come to the part about the butterfly! This is a must-have for kids one to three years old.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful starter book for little readers Review: My son has "latched" onto this book, and won't let go! He's two, but he reads it to me when he gets the chance, with extreme emphasis on the BUT HE WAS STILL HUNGRY, and the BIG FAT CATERPILLAR parts. He is able to name off the Saturday foods now, and I am very proud of him. If I ever get the chance to thank Eric Carle, I will, for encouraging children's love to read! Plan to get a small, traveling version soon (mine is the 8x13) to read in the car. [...]
Rating: Summary: My daughter's favorite Review: This delightful book makes my 7-month-old squeal with delight every time we take it out to read to her. She loves the picture on the cover, and she loves putting her finger through the little holes. We parents like the cautionary tale of not over-indulging our appetites. This is one of our favorite books for beginning readers, and I think it's Eric Carle's finest.
Rating: Summary: Great book Review: I have children aged 5,3 & 1 year. My 3 year old loves this book the best as a story. My 5 year old enjoys trying to "read" it. The repetition in this book is great & the pictures help the children to "read." My children are also picking up the concept of DAYS OF THE WEEK and this book is a lot of help in that area. My 1 year old just likes to here me read & the repetition keeps her listening intently.
Rating: Summary: The Very Hungry Caterpillar Board Book Review: My two and a half year old son absolutely loved it and could not put it down. The fact that it is a tiny book suits his little hands even better. I remember reading the same story but from the regular-sized book to him and he was barely interested - perhaps it has something to do with not being able to have a full view of the pictures with colours filling up most of the page. This is not the case with his tiny book as the tiny pictures filled the tiny pages very nicely. I would recommend this book as an effective means to stirring a child's interest in books and reading. I know that for my son this book is and will be his all time favourite. Eric Carle has an unusual way of capturing my son's imagination and fascination!
