Rating: Summary: A very good book! Review: My son (11 months now) Loves this book, he smiles whenever I start reading it & he sticks his little fingers in the holes! I can't wait till he starts identifying the food the caterpillar eats! I recommend it to any new parent, It's a joy for you & your child.
Rating: Summary: Very interactive Review: This is a great little interactive book which is useful right from the earliest introduction for kids to reading. At first you can tell the story, then the kids identify all the pictures of the food the caterpillar eats and they begin to shout them out. Later you can teach them to actually read the words. They all love where the caterpillar gets sick from eating all the cake and pickle (sound effects are entirely up to you the reader) and there is great fun when the butterfly emerges at the end.
Rating: Summary: My son loves this book Review: We've had this book most of my son's life (18 months). It's been fascinating to see him appreciate new things in the pictures and to be able to identify some of the foods the catepillar eats. As a parent, it's refreshing to actually have a story line in a kids book. The repitition of the foods eaten each day, and the lesson in counting and days of the week it provides, makes it fun for all of us to read. And yes, the pictures are wonderful!
Rating: Summary: How much will he eat? Review: this is a great book for young children. The illustrations have a unique style, that are accurate and follow the text very well. The book helps the children ask question such as" How much can he eat?", and " I wonder what he'll eat next." the story maintain an even flow, of building on what happened in the page before hand. The book takes the children on wonderous adventure making them think what food will he eat, and how much more will eat before he is full. It also follows the sequence of nature to add to the children's learning.
Rating: Summary: Second generation caterpillar fans Review: I remember reading this book as a small child, but not in the board edition. In the book we had, you had to be careful when you touched the holes in the pages (let's face it, no child can resist that) because the thin paper would tear. However, it's always been a magical story about growth, transformation and the perils of too much junk food. Now I'm the mother of a toddler who LOVES caterpillars. This book was a no-brainer gift for her and imagine how pleased I was to find it in board form. What a brilliant idea! Tiny fingers can poke into the holes chewed by the caterpillar with no harm done. This book lives in our diaper bag, except for the 3-4 times a week we pull it out and read it at bedtime. A must have!
Rating: Summary: A Great Eric Carle Book Review: I am a big fan of Eric Carle. He is a good artist and writer. I especially like "The Very Hungry Catrepillar." It has beautiful pictures and tells a story about a caterpillar that is hungry and, in the end, turns into a beautiful, beautiful butterfly. I like the butterfly drawing the best. To find out more about it, read the book.
Rating: Summary: It never ceases to entertain!! Review: I first bought the book when it came out and we have had to constantly replace it at my house. My oldest still sits for a reading and we all make noises mimicking the tremendous belly ache of the caterpillar. An enduring book that every child should have; an enduring book that every parent must treasure.
Rating: Summary: A REAL FEAST Review: . Eric Carle's book must surely now be put in the Classic category. The story is both fun and instructive. Children will learn both counting skills and the days of the week. The progression of the days together with the accumulation of all the things the caterpillar ate is very cleverly done. The indented pages and the holes through each of them are a very neat device. The colorful illustrations are done in broad-brush strokes with a bold style. The metamorphoses from the egg to the caterpillar to the cocoon and eventually to the beautiful butterfly are almost magic. It certainly will be to a young child.
Rating: Summary: Meeting the Hungry Caterpiller by Eric Carle Review: I have loved this book for many years as a teacher who loves children's books. I had the opportuntiy to meet Eric Carle in person for the new signing of his book in Denton, Texas. As a preschool teacher I did a play for young children based upon this book. You can use this book as a guide in doing simple activities with preschoolers. This book is predictable and fun. The true gift in reading this book is the shear joy and animation young children will have with every page that is read. I will keep on reading it from years to come! Lynn Rogers
