Rating: Summary: Perfect book for expectant grandparents Review: I am ten months pregnant and bought this book for my mom, who is a big Billy Crystal fan. It brought tears to her eyes! It really captures the excitement of a new life coming into the world.
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT Review: I ENJOYED BILLY CRYSTAL BOOK BECAUSE IT ANTICIPATES THE BIRTH OF A CHILD ALTHOUGH IT IS GEARED AT GRANDPARENTS I KNOW HOW THE ANTICIPATION ONE FEELS AWAITING FOR A NEW CHILD AND LOVING IT BEFORE IT IS BORN. GREAT JOB
Rating: Summary: Possibly a Future Classic Review: I groaned at the idea of another celebrity jumping on the picture book bandwagon, but found Crystal's love letter to his future grandchild touching. The love he feels towards this child is apparent and his emotions will be shared by any adult (though it is aimed at grandparents) who anticipates the birth of a child. It would be wonderful gift for expectant parents to give to their parents as well as a nice gift from grandparents to share with a grandchild.
Rating: Summary: Very Nice Review: It is always wonderful to find good books to read to young children. It is very nice to wake up nice emotions or to stimulate those that are not asleep.
Rating: Summary: Touched with love Review: It is now Billy Crystal's turn to produce a children's book. But this one is different, since it reflects his own experience as a first-time expectant grandfather and is dedicated to his first grandchild Ella. As Grandpa awaits the birth of his grandchild, he dreams of all the things they will share. He envisions them going to the beach, the zoo, a ball game, and the movies. He imparts his wisdom about telling the truth and tying shoes. Together they fly kites, go out to eat, and go fishing. The rhymed verse is phrased in an awkward meter, but nevertheless it reverberates with love, tenderness, and a sense of humor. The soft illustrations depict the imagined activities between grandfather and grandchild, where the child is portrayed at different ages and genders. Is this a story for an adult or a child? I think the expectant parent or grandparent will appreciate the sentiments more than a young child, since it is written from an adult's point of view and since it has no chronological story line for the child to follow. When shared between a grandparent and grandchild, however, it is certain to impress the child with just how special he/she is in a grandparent's eyes. Eileen Rieback
Rating: Summary: The Not-So-Fine Crystal Review: My two stars go to the illustrator of this unfortunately trite, clumsy book. I have nothing in particular against Crystal's journeyman comedic skills, but I feel that this is yet another in a long line of mediocre or worse celebrity books that take shelf space away from talented creators with something special to contribute. I can't believe this book would exist without Crystal's name--at best the author would have been pressured more to fix the forced rhymes and jerky rhythm.
If you need to have seen an author on TV before you'll buy their work, try John Lithgow or Jamie Lee Curtis, two celebrity writers who have earned their ISBN's.
Rating: Summary: Billy Pay Me Review: Plenty Of Grandfathers could tell the same story, yet nobody is giving them a publishing deal. Another in the line of celebrity books. At least Jay Leno's new book was funny.
Rating: Summary: I Already Know I Love You Review: Terrific book for a new grandmother, touching Mother's Day gift. Great for a keepsake & to read to a child.
Rating: Summary: Great gift for a grandfather to send Review: The title and the book are EXCELLENT! My wife and I had to move away from home, sent this book to our daughter and she was thrilled! Since we are from Boston, the only problem was a reference to the Yankees ... but, this may be our year!
