Summary: what a wonderful book!
Review: i think this book is sooooooo good. it really takes you into the mind of a slave girl and what really goes on when you are half white and half slave. i love this book so much that now i want to read all of Ann Rinaldi's work!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: An excellent Rinaldi book!
Review: The true capacity and talent of Rinaldi is shown through this book! Harriet Hemmings is a slave on Thomas Jefferson's plantation- Monticello. She lives with her mother and brothers. For a negro slave (please don't take offense), she and her brothers are very light- light enough to pass as whites. They are well educated, and are always properly dressed. They are also treated with respect by the other slaves and white servants- stimluating rumors that she and her brothers are the illegitmate children of Thomas Jefferson. This book is truly amazing. Harriet has courage and will- and always a thought wandering around in her mind about who her father is. Rinaldi did an excellent job with this novel- I highly recommend it!

Summary: Surprising, interesting, WONDERFUL
Review: I first picked up this book because it was required for school. And am I glad I did! This book is about Harriet Hemmings, daughter of Sally Hemmings, and a slave on Thomas Jefferson's plantation, Monticello. Harriet and brother Beverly are very white looking compared to the regular "nigra" (don't take offense). It is rumored that they are the offspring of the Master, Thomas Jefferson himself. They both have amazing similarites to him and are treated with respect and privlage in his house. Both Hemmings are constant companions of the former President and love him dearly. Through this book you'll learn of Harriet's struggle with her identity, heartbreak and tortures, and her overwhelming moments of happiness. The suspense in this book is wonderful, it's desperatly in need for a sequel (hint hint), and above all, you MUST read it!

Summary: The Best Book
Review: I Love this book. I am going on a trip to Washington DC at the end of june, but i have to miss the trip to Monticello. After I read this book, I finally got a picture in my head of what it looked like. Wolf By The Ears is a very goods book and very descriptive. Please read your way to Monticello.

Summary: For once, 'historical' doesn't mean 'boring'
Review: If you enjoy history, Ann Rinaldi's books are definitely for you. Hey, even if you don't enjoy history, this book is for you. In "Wolf by the Ears," Ann Rinaldi brings historical figures to life, and makes her readers feel as if they're actually living at Monticello during the time of Thomas Jefferson. Some historical novels are boring because they're bogged down with so many facts. Others are half fact, half fiction, and readers are left bewildered because they don't know what to believe. Rinaldi strikes a balance between the two, because her books are both interesting and carefully researched, and if you're left in doubt, she always clarifies what was fact and what was fiction at the end of the book. I've learned more history reading books like these than I ever learned from a school history text -- if you give it a try, you will, too!

Summary: One of my favorite books!
Review: This book was so awesome! Sure,it took me awhile to read it, but it was definetly worth it! I would recommend it to anyone because it is such a good book. While I was reading it, Ann Rinaldi made me feel as if I was right there with Thomas Jefferson and Harriet. You must read this book!

Summary: excellent book!
Review: This book was fascinating and well-written! I read it for a young adult's literature class in college, and I highly recommend it to teachers of the middle grades. It's a historical fiction novel with lots of great discussion and project topics throughout the book.

Summary: Still a good book years after I first read it!
Review: I first read Wolf by the Ears in grade school. Since then I've read it at least once a year. It's an excellant book that made me feel as if I was on Thomas Jefferson's plantation with Harriet Hemmings. I still get choked up reading it and probably always will because I feel as though Harriet is my friend. Wolf by the Ears made me want to read more about the Hemmings family and Thomas Jefferson. Of the other two novels that I have read about Sally and Harriet Hemmings, Wolf by the Ears is my favorite!
