Review: I think this book was good, but it's also pretty sad because one person dies, some people have drinking problems, and one family divorces. The good things about the book are that the baseball games were exciting, and the book also taught how to play baseball in a good way. The book also showed that friendship is good to have because in this book a friend always came to his friend for help.

A reader's first impression of Heart of a Champion is a tale of courage and how
friends, help friends get to through things. It is a great book to read specially if you enjoy realistic fiction and sports stories.
The main plot of the book is about a boy named Seth who lives with his mom because his dad died of cancer and they moved into a new town. Seth has trouble making friends because he is quit and humble. Then one day why he is at the park a boy named Jimmy and his dad ask Seth if he would like to play baseball with them and Seth decides to give it a try. Seth is not very good at baseball but he really likes it so he keeps on playing and getting better. Seth and Jimmy get to be real close friends and do all kinds of stuff together. They grow up together and eventually reach high school. They both try out for the team but Seth makes the Junior Varsity team but Jimmy makes the Varsity team and becomes popular at school. Jimmy starts to make poor decisions and Seth knows that he will get in trouble if he hangs out with Jimmy.
Jimmy is the wild and outgoing type, Jimmy likes to party and does not concentrate on his school work that good. Seth is the quiet type and he likes to work on his school work more. He is also an honor student and has really good grades. Seth isn't that popular, but Jimmy is popular and hangs out with the cool group.
As you know Seth and Jimmy are the main characters. Seth is more motivated on his school work and baseball. Jimmy is more motivated to baseball and wants to be a pro baseball player. I wonder how much he wants to play baseball because he makes a lot of mistakes that could hurt him in the long run.
The Heart of a Champion is a real good book that teaches you about courage, persistence, and good friendship. I really enjoyed the book and I thought that there were no boring spots in the book. The author keeps you wondering what's going to happen next after every chapter.

Review: one of th ebest books i have ever read it taught you about even the people you thought would never do it they can in this book it opened my eyes to a whole knew prospective and i am in 7th grade i higly higly higly recommend it

Summary: Another Deuker gem!
Review: Seth Barham could basically be described as you everyday average kid. He is struggling to find his identity after losing his father, then he meets Jimmy Winters. Jimmy teaches Seth about baseball, and Seth falls in love with the game. As usual Deukers game descriptions are second to none, and the book deals with so many issues other than just baseball. Just like in life the outcome may not be what you expect. A must read for any kid 13 and up, I enjoyed the book and Im 28. Deuker does it again!

Seth, a young boy, slowly grows up watching his friend excel in baseball and struggle with his feelings about his alcoholic father. Seth, having lost his father at an early age, can't understand Jimmy's reluctancy to see his father. This is a story about two boys growing up with a love of baseball and the hardships of the pressures of the outside world.

Review: The book "The heart of a Champion" was a book that I read a few years ago. Actually I read this book in 7th grade. What attracted me to the book was the cover. But this goes to show what a really good book can do. I can still remember a lot of this book. This is if not the best novel I've read. This is a book that anyone can enjoy, but if you really like baseball you will enjoy it a whole lot more. I recommend this book to anyone that can read. It shows team work and determination. Although this book has drinking in it, it is still appropriate for all audiences. In the end you might get a tear when you find out who died because of drinking. If you ever get a chance, read this book I am sure that you will enjoy it very much.

Carl Deuker , a wise, intelligent author, brings to our curious eyes the wonderful story about a young boy growing up with a love for baseball . This may sound like the typical boy-and-his-glove story but witty Deuker gives the novel a certain twist of excitement and drama . Seth, a young determined boy, discovers his new interest for baseball when meeting his new friend Jimmy for the first time . As Seth sees Jimmy's father's strict coaching and more private problems, he starts thinking more about his own father's death . As the two grow and start playing in baseball leagues together Seth realizes that all his determination and strength does not equal to Jimmy's allstar proformance as a player . In the end Seth finds that all his dedication pays off . As the two reach highschool , issues of drinking arise and start interfearing with the actual game playing . After small punishments Seth is unfortunate to be the only one realizing the concequences while Jimmy faces more problems with his father . Jimmy overlooks boundaries and ends up in more trouble than he will ever know . Through the years Seth realizes the true meaning to have the heart of a champion .
