Rating: Summary: A good beach read. Review: I thought that this was a pretty decent book. Violet wants to create a movie. One that will show everyone what she's made of. But since that hasn't happened yet she spends her days as a student at her locl high school, being avoided by pretty much everyone. But when she meets Claire she is immeaditally hit with inspiration for a movie, and Claire will star in it. She just has no idea how complicated her life will get with this descision!I liked this book. The charecters where scetched well but the plot sort of sagged in the end. I'm not a fan of Block's other work but I do reccomend this one if you want a good read. I think it deserves 3 and a half stars insted.
Rating: Summary: Review of Violet and Claire Review: Set against the backdrop of Los Angeles, Block creates yet another dynamic story about young adolescents in their journey from innocence to experience and back again. The imagery is fascinating and I would venture to say that much of Block's appeal lies in her talent for creating interesting descriptions and unique characters. I was very pleased with this book and inhaled it once I opened it. I met Violet the young filmmaker finding herself caught in the web of the Hollywood scene and her muse, Claire, the pixie girl. This book allows you to see the world through each of the girl's eyes, through the camera lens of Violet, and the poetic eyes of Claire. Though this book follows a specific formula that can be found in other Block books (I won't spoil this review by defining that formula), I found it to be extremely interesting and wonderfully depicted.
Rating: Summary: A Good Story Review: This is certainly a great story about frindship. I enjoyed itvery much, but it kind of dropped at the ending.
Rating: Summary: A bad moral book Review: This book is very bad and I wouldn't recommend it to anybody! It has all kinds of gross things like bad thoughts, bad motives, sex, and more. The girls are basically sleeping their way into getting a movie. I started reading it because I got it for my birthday, but stopped halfway through because it was so horrible. I threw it in the trash, because that's what it is.
Rating: Summary: magic Review: When I first saw this book I was at Barnes and Noble with my family and I was browsing. I happened to uncover Violet &Claire. I stared at it for a moment, not knowing why I felt like I was perching on a star- after all, though I have always loved FLB, I had never felt this enraptured just by looking at a book she had written. Needless to say, I bought it, and read it in the solitude of my room, which quickly turned into LA, the city where Violet and Claire lived. After reading this book, and closing it, I felt like I had been to heaven and had suddenly dropped down to earth again. This book is pure magic, and underneath it's darkness it sparkles with poetry.
Rating: Summary: one of the best true to life stories of friendship Review: I am a fan of Francesca Lia Blocks writing, and I stumbled upon Violet and claire in the library since than I have read it atleast four times. It uses poetry and imagery to describe a very heartfelt story. I think anyone who has a best friend can apprediate it, or anyone who ever felt they didn't belong. Like Violet and her love of film and Claire who believes she is a fairy, and wears a tinkerbell shirt with wings glued to it's back. It also has comedy and pop culture references: to Pulp fiction among others. this book inspired me not only to write but to live my life to the fullest. I highly reccomend it, and can definately relate to it.
Rating: Summary: another book i can relate completely to... Review: I love this book so much because I am Violet & Claire all smashed into one person! Violet+ Claire= Sierra...I possess all of Violet's fiery attributes and love for screenwriting and punk, but I also have Claire's glittery outlook on life and love for mystical little faeries...This book has encouraged me to continue to chase my dream to be a screenwriter...
Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: A wonderful book, bringing me to a world of a dark movie director and a glittery faerylike girl sharing an amazing, sparkling friendships. The poetic style of writing is incredibly beautiful.
Rating: Summary: An Ok Book Review: I read this book at my cousins house. It was her book that she had gotten from school. From the beginning i was hooked. The Goth Violet ,and the Glam Claire.Their lives through men,and drugs. The book holds up until the end. Some of the end made no since to me.It was rushed, and smashed together.Ended to quickly! I can only hope for a sequel to understand what became of the characters.
Rating: Summary: the great (...)-up Review: I liked Violet and Claire, but it was very confusing. I feltlike it got off the subject too many times, and the author talkedabout (...) thatdidn't make sense. Violet and Claire jump from bedrooms to the desert to a transie bar, all in 15 minutes. To me it was awfully fast, but the characters were still great.
