Rating: Summary: Great book and insight into West Point Review: Great book! Funny, poignant, easily held my attention. The main character, Andi, is someone we can all identify with. I found myself rooting for her and sharing in her successes and failures. If any teenager is considering applying to West Point or thinking about the military, they should read this book to find out what to expect and how it prepare.
Rating: Summary: A review for teenagers Review: I am teenager and I and my friends love this book. Any teenagers would too. I refeer this book to anyone who likes books about women who beat the odds.

Rating: Summary: Outstanding book for any age Review: I bought the book out of curiosity and was enthralled. I have never been to West Point and I am not a young girl, but the story and the writing were riveting. One night I read the book to my 5 and 1/2 year old son at bedtime and he could not wait until the next night's reading. The descriptions are excellent and the struggles that the young heroine and her friends experience are universal. I am looking forward to her next book and so is my son.
Rating: Summary: Battle Dress Review: I don't care what people said about this book IT WAS GREAT! I had to read this book for a reading program and it was the only book that I just wanted to keep reading! It may be fictional but it shows people military life from a women's point of view instead of the guy's point of view. If you haven't read this book then you have got to read it! Andi goes through a lot of sruggles emotionally and physically. Amy does a great job of discribing her surroundings and everything that is going on. I deffinately give this book 2 thumbs up!
Rating: Summary: Great Reading Review: I loved this book and could easily relate to the main character. Over the vehement objections of everyone I knew and to get away from my family, I joined the Army back in 1980. What kept me going through recruit training was the thought that everyone expected me to fail and I refused to give them that satisfaction even in the face of great difficulty. The author has done a wonderful job of combining a young woman's struggle to succeed regardless of how hard the obstacles put in front of her are. This would make a wonderful series following Andi through to graduation!
Rating: Summary: Great novel for all young girls! Review: I pre-read all the books my pre-teen daughter reads. Recently Iread Battle Dress by Amy Efaw. I found this book extremely relevant tothe needs of her age group. It illustrates the values and perserverence a girl needs to realize goals. In this book the main character, Andi, aspires to complete the rigorous military summer training program at West Point. Young girls can relate to Andi, who comes from a disfunctional home and struggles with her self-esteem and ghosts from the past. By the end of her summer of "Beast", she comes to appreciate and learn from both the positive and negative aspects of her present experience which taught her valuable life long lessons, including the benefits of team effort. I highly recommend Battle Dress to any pre teen who will find Andi inspiring as well as determined to realize the goal she set out to accomplish.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Portrayal of an Overcomer Review: I was fascinated by the ins and outs of a world completely foreign to me--that of a military academy, and the disciplines necessary to survive such a place. Ms. Efaw well portrays the struggles a young woman may expect when "playing with the big boys" in a military setting, but never stoops to the male-bashing that usually would take place in such a book. Protagonist Andi Davis, having already mastered some basic survival skills by growing up in a dysfunctional family, quickly discovers that West Point, rather than being a haven, will push her further than she has ever been pushed. Along the way she realizes that the seeming abuse and rigid structure of Woo Poo U is designed to strip away her misconceived notions of self and her emotional baggage; it only remains for her to overcome her internal fears and build herself back up--but not as the same person she was before. Readers will be pulling for Andi as she sheds her negative self-image by earning the respect of her squad mates. The issues of acceptance and self-worth that Efaw deals with are touchstones with any teen, not just one considering a military career.
