Summary: This Is A Great Book for All Teen Girls!
Review: "Girls Under Pressure" is a magnificent book. It's the second book in the "Girls" trilogy.

Ellie was hanging out at the mall one day with her friends Magda and Nadine where they were seeking models for the cover of a teen mag, Spicy. Magda and Nadine eagerly go to see what is going on, and that's when Ellie starts to realize she is fat. So she starts going on a diet, excersising, and even skips meals. Though Ellie has been losing weight, every time she looks at herself she sees a fat girl. But one visit to the hospital to see an anorexic friend changes Ellie's view about everything. Great book!

Summary: Girls under pressure
Review: After the title page caught my eye in the library at school I sat down to read this amazing book. It captures the emotions of all the situations exactly and perfectly mixes real life with humour with out beng overly cheerful for the moment. For those of you wondering what it is all about- Well it tells the story of a teenage girl who considers herself to be overweight and her struggles with it(with out being too serious), you also see snips of the lives of her two best friends and an anorexic school mate. I recomend it to anyone who is looking for a teen story or just a amazingly good book !!

Summary: Eh. Mediocre at best.
Review: Being a fan of the rest of the books in the series, I couldn't wait to read GIRLS UNDER PRESSURE. I knew this book would deal with Ellie's battle against her weight, but it was a bit of a letdown.

Ellie is upset that both her friends are gorgeous and thin, and she's on the shorter, stockier side. She also thinks she's ugly, and her way of dealing with this is simple - lose weight by dieting. Of course, the diet goes out of control and soon she's in a serious battle with anorexia.

My least favorite part of the book is the fact that nobody realized Ellie's problems sooner, and the fact that Ellie befriended an incredibly anorexic girl, without realizing that she was in the same condition. It's a good book, but GIRLS UNDER PRESSURE is probably the worst in the series.

Overall grade - C

Summary: not realistic...
Review: being one in recovery from an eating disorder, i found this book an extreme disappointment. it was not realistically portrayed at all. ellie's eating disorder seems to develop overnight and ends in the same way. you can't just decide to get better and it happens. recovery is a process which can take years, with many slip-ups. i wouldn't recommend this book to anyone, unless you're just looking for a quick read to keep yourself busy.

Summary: Under Pressure and all
Review: Ellie is suffering. Her Gothic, long and lean best friend Nadine is involved in a Spicy modeling contest which brings Ellie to start freaking out about her own weight. Magda looks like a movie star and in fact she has got zillions of boys buzzing around her. Ellie is 'plump and plain' but now she is very obssessed and caring about her own weight. Instead of couting weights and food, she stops eating. Then, she goes mad with hunger and lies to her family and friends. She thinks she looks so terrible until Magda asks her to go swimming with her. Then at the pool she meets anorexic Zoe, and sees what becomes of Zoe and luckily stops the weight problem effecting her too deeply.
This book was O.K., but it's the kind of book you wouldn't need to read and reread. A pretty good read in general, though!

Summary: It's simple to absorb this engrossing, realistic story
Review: Ellie's encounter with a modeling contest does more than challenge her friendship with her best friend: it shows her that she weighs too much and is in need of some serious dieting. Suddenly life becomes a big effort to avoid food at all costs: even newcomers to Jacqueline Wilson fiction writing will find it's simple to absorb this engrossing, realistic story, which also encompasses Ellie's parents' reaction.

Summary: Disturbing, but well worth the discomfort
Review: First off, let me admit that I am a true blue Jacqueline Wilson fan and have been one ever since I read Elsa Star of the Shelter. I have read books 1-3 of the "Girls" quartet. While books 1 and 3 have a more Georgia Nicholson feel (heroine of Angus, Thongs, and Full Frontal Snogging and 3 other books), meaning they're full of amusing Brit slang and the adventures of 3 Brit teens, this book, #2, is far more serious. Wilson evidently understands the societal and familial pressures that can cause young people to fall into the anorexia/bulimia trap, but she avoids the oversimplification one usually encounters in books about the subject, i.e., that it's a control issue, that the victims are stressed perfectionists, etc. Wilson details main character Ellie's descent into starvation with far greater empathy and demonstrates the complexity of causative factors quite well. The other 2 teens, Magda and Nadine, are not mere supporting characters in Ellie's drama; each has her own experiences which reflect some of the pitfalls into which teens can fall. Magda experiences the horror of being viewed as a "slag" (or slut for us Americans) because of her beauty and distinctive sense of fashion. Nadine joins a modeling competition and sacrifices her goth style on the alter of conventional American beauty only to find she would have done better to have remained true to herself. I would highly recommend the quartet and this book in particular to sensitive, intelligent girls ages 12 and up. I can't wait to read Girls in Tears, the final book in the quartet.

Summary: 3 stars is being generous
Review: I can't believe that this book got 5 stars for the average customer review. It was interesting at parts, but overall I found it to be slow and shallow. I bought this book because I am very heavy and I thought I could identify with Ellie. Boy was I wrong! She only had to lose 25 pounds and she was obessed with her weight. She couldn't think or talk about anything else. Even though I'm obese, I care about other things. She was trying aneroxia and bulimia just because she had a few pounds to lose! Not a very sympathetic character.

I am not sure I'll buy another one of Jacqueline Wilson's books. It was cute though that they used all the English words like "telly", "slag" and "the loo".

Summary: great book!
Review: I loved this book. I thought it was definitely better than the first one even though I liked that one too. I could totally relate to the way Ellie was feeling about being fat. I never had an eating disorder, but I did feel the same way about myself at one point. Girls Under Pressure deals with a serious issue but is still funny and was an enjoyable read.

Summary: Best Book
Review: I think Jacqueline Wilson is the best author!! She writes abfab books, she soooo knows what a teenager is thinking and she's thinking our era not her era! I would defenitly give Girls Under Pressure 5 stars!!!!

Ellie, Magda and Nadine are just your typical teenagers! Boymania!!! They stick together in any situation and thats where Jacqueline Wilson has got it totally correct!

I think Ellie goes through all the typical teenage things like thinking shes the only one who doesn't have a boyfriend and thinking shes fat and all the rest!

I think Nadine goes through the typical teenage thing of thinking you can handle having a boyfriend older than you... so she thinks she can go all the way with him because she is so mature! But really Liam (her boyfriend) is just pushing her to go with him, she isn't doing it because wants to!

And Magda... well... magda is the mate who knows all the style tips and has all the hot gossip about everyone plus she has a crowd of lads with her all the time lol! You need magda in a disaster situation (with your hair or make up)

I hope you go out and buy it cos i know i have! :)
