Summary: Wonderful Retlling of Troy
Review: As a sixth grade teacher, I found this book to be the on the perfect comprehension level for my students to learn about the Trojan War. It also does a wonderful job of showing how the events of Troy were not exclusive to that time period.

Summary: Dateline Troy book reveiw
Review: Dateline Troy takes place in the ancient days of the Trojan war. The main characters are, Hecuba, the queen of Troy and the mother of Paris. King Priam, The father of Paris and king of Troy. Paris, the lost prince of Troy,Helen, King Menelaus' wife and queen of Sparta, and Odysseus the brave warrior and king of Ithaca.
One of the important events in this story was the Trojan War and the story of the giant wooden horse. That's one of the themes of this story. Never let you guards down,But I think the author had something more important to get through to the readers. This book shows how modern events can parallel with the events that happened in the ancient times by showing pictures of newspapers with the events from the past years. I think that this book was interesting yet confusing. It kept going from one character to the next. I don't think I'll enjoy reading mythical books anymore. I can't understand them. They are very unreal. I wouldn't recommend this book to a young child, or someone who enjoys comical books, or books that they can relate to.

Book review

The book Dateline: Troy is all about the war against the Trojans and the Greeks. They are fighting over a woman named Helen. The reason that they are fighting over her is because a guy named Paris was asked by 3 goddess` which one of them was the fairest. He eventually picked Aphrodite the goddess of love. Since he picked her she granted him the love of any one he desired. He chose Helen, a married Greek, to be his love. She went to him under the spell. The Greeks didn`t like this, so the war began.
I think this book is confusing because almost every page is about a different person. I also think this book is very exciting because they attack each other all the time. My favorite part is when the Greeks build the wooden horse and pile inside it. They give it to the Trojans saying that they give up. The Trojans take it inside their walls. When the Trojans fell asleep, the Greeks inside attack them while they`re unaware.
If you like books about war, love, and myths, this is a good book for you.

Summary: Dateline:Troy
Review: Dateline:Troy

Dateline:Troy is a book about the myth Helen of Troy. In the book characters such as Paris go through a series of conflicts with themselves and other people. Paris is an abandoned baby who is left on a mountain. When a man finds the baby he and his wife raise him as their own. Through the story Paris grows up and finds out that the people who raised him are not his real parents. When the battle starts many people go through heartache, grief and triumph. When the war continues the the Greeks build a large wooden horse as a decoy to the Trojan. When the Greeks go to the Trojans base inside of the horse they go on a massacre and kill everyone in their sleep. The theme of this book is that you can outsmart the enemy.

I didn't like this book because I don't care for reading about myths. At times the book was confusing also I didn't care for it because it was hard to comprehend and the transition from begging to middle to end was hard.

I would reccomend this book to people who like to read about myths and folklore because it may be interesting to them. Paul Fleischman is still a good author but this wasn't one of my favorites.

Summary: Are modern humans and institutions like Ancient Greece?
Review: I have read, both in my childhood and adulthood, many different versions of the Trojan War. The version in this book is well written for both adult and younger audiences.

What is most interesting in this book, however, is its attempt in every page to relate something about behaviors and practices in Ancient Greece to those we find in modern times. The author very ably does this by placing selected newspaper articles - mostly from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s - across each page of the the text as the story of the Trojan War unfolds.

Thus, the book presents subtle comparisons between King Priam's consultation of the Priest of Apollo and a newspaper report of how former President Reagan and his wife used astrology; the competition among Greek godesses to find the fairest among them with a study in the 1990s by some Pennsylvania scientists on how infants respond differently to images of pretty and plain looking women; the spreading of disinformation during the Trojan War to the modern use of psychological warfare; and other comparisons between Ancient Greece and the modern world.

This book thus provides both adult and young readers a foundation to dialogue on how human civlization and institutions have both evolved - and also remained constant in some respects - throughout the ages. This is a very interesting and commendable effort by the author.

Summary: Troy
Review: I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read difficult books, because this book is full of big words. Or anyone who likes war, the book has alot to do with that. But the biggest reason to read this book is if you like and secretly raised him. Paris awarded Aphordite the golden apple and in return she made him invincible in love. The Trojans started a war with the Greeks, But eventually they called a truth. Of course it was broken and the war started up again. At first I didn't really like it but as it went on I did. By the end of the book i thought it was a really good. Like the newborn left to die i didn't like that. But when the war started and the action I liked it then. Another reason I liked it was that it had a big picture on every other page. Over all it was a good book and if I were you I would read this book.

Summary: Not appropriate for grade schoolers
Review: My 11-year-old son brought this book home from the grade school library and, upon first glance, I thought it would be an interesting book. However, as I flipped through the book and saw the newspaper clippings the other reviewers mentioned, I was somewhat startled. Some of them read: "Japan Admits WWII Use of Sex Slaves," "War Protester Burns Herself To Death Here," and "Newborn Found in Dumpster." There were several other, similar articles. This may be fine for young adults of junior high age or higher, but not for grade school kids.

Summary: A great retelling
Review: One of the most special retellings of the Trojan War I've read. The collages with the newspaper articles, connecting the old tale with modern day happenings in the last few decades is really interesting and provides a new outlook on things. It's a bit different from other versions, as Greek myth goes, but it still captures most of the legend. (There was no happily ever after for Odysseus, though.)

Summary: THE MANS WORD
Review: The book Dateline Troy was a book pretty much about war. I also liked this book because it had visuals to go with it like if you didnt understand a part in the book you could look over at the visual and maybe pick it up a little better. The book also didnt loose me in the middle it jumped right to the point. The only part i got confused was remembering the names of all of the Gods, Greeks, and the Trojans. This is one of the best books i have ever read maybe because of the war, but it was still good.
