Rating: Summary: ~* Best book you could ever read *~ Review: This novel is probably one of the most moving novels I¡¦ve ever read. I strongly recommend it to emotional people. You¡¦re going to LOVE this book. I honestly cried on, reading the last few pages. This book is really moving. I think this is because it is not only very sad, but also very realistic. It¡¦s the kind of story that could happen to anyone today. I also like this book because it is really easy to follow as it is written sort of like in a diary form; the reader can read the two main characters¡¦ point of view on everything. What is really special about this book is that Davida Wills Hurwin wrote it in a way to make you feel like you are Julie¡¦s best friend, and you have to help her along during her rough times. I would mostly recommend it to teenagers or young adults. I¡¦m not sure if children would quite get the whole point of this story. This story is about two teenagers, Julie and Sam, who are best friends. What happens to them is that they planned everything together, they were inseparable. One day, Julie discovers she has cancer, and Sam tries to be a true friend, but Julie¡¦s dreams shattered and nothing else counts for her anymore. Although her passion for dancing is still extremely strong, she can¡¦t face her friends, family and classmates. Slowly, she drifts into another world and practically shuts everyone out of her life. But Julie is very strong and has a strong determination. When she realizes her cancer might not go away, she decides to live her life to its fullest. My advice to you readers is to read on, even if some passages might seem quite boring. Because, there¡¦s a passage in the story where Julie has to go through a lot of treatments. This could bore you a little bit, but if you read on like I did, you will absolutely love this book in the end. Also, I can guarantee this story will somehow have an impact on you, like it did on me. Enjoy.

Rating: Summary: Friendship Review: Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have cancer? In this book, A Time for Dancing, shares a story about a girl who experiences having cancer at a young age. This book may change your outlook for people who aren't as blessed to be healthy as you may be. A Time for Dancing, by Davida Wills Hurwin, is an emotional book of love and friendship that teaches life lessons to young adults. Julie and Sam have a special friendship that most teenagers don't have. It is hard for Sam when Julie goes on chemo and it takes all of her energy and time for Sam away. For example, Julie and Sam have been best friends since they were nine years old. They know each other well enough to feel each others pain and to know what they are thinking, so it's really like they both are going to have to fight cancer together (p.63). In addition, when Julie is diagnosed with cancer, Sam is always there for her, and that never goes away. That shows what a great person she is and how much their friendship means to her. Julie's challenge with cancer is hard for everyone she knows but they are supporters of her decisions, whatever they may be. As a result of their friendship, it helps Julie fight the cancer and have a reason to fight it, rather then give up on her self and stay sick. I highly recommend this book to people because I enjoyed it a lot. For example, I enjoyed this book a lot because of its realistic events that happened. Such as when Julie tells Sam she has cancer (p.63). The events made me feel as if I were there and knew Julie and Sam well. The author's way of writing was descriptive and never made me lost. I didn't want tot put the book down because I was into the book and wanted to know what happened next. In addition, the story was suspenseful and had many twists and turns to keep me reading, like when Julie loses her hair after a promise from the doctor (p.217). That made the book better because I always found time to read or not stop reading this book. Those things all add up to be a great book by being suspenseful, exciting, and a page turner, which makes me enjoy the book even more. A Time for dancing, in my opinion is a great book in many ways. I think that many teens or female people will enjoy this book because it is story that females or young adults can relate to and understand. I would rate this book high because it was one of the best books that I've ever read. I hope that you will read this book and enjoy it to the highest degree that I did.
Rating: Summary: Life Review: Sadness, crying, happiness, freedom. These are the things that might enter ones mind after finishing this book. A Time for Dancing by Davida Wills Hurwin, is an emotional book with many twists and turns, its realistic characters will pull you in. A person can relate to this book well, it applies to problems real people may face in every day life. This book starts off smoothly, Julie and Sam are best friends, and it's as if nothing could go wrong. Their lives are almost perfect, they're going to end of the year parties and practicing for their big Showcase dance. That is until Julie discovers that her ex boyfriend, Jack, has a new girlfriend, and later on, that she has cancer. While dancing, Julie feels pain in her hips, but recently they've been hurting worse and worse, and soon she has no choice but to go to the doctor. After about her 13th visit, she is finally diagnosed with cancer, which seemed impossible to her. Sam can't believe it either, this is her best friend that has it, not some distant relative, or someone she hears about on the news. Julie begins chemo, and its hard on both her and Sam, but they were determined to get through it. All in all, Julie's condition was something they had to deal with, something they could handle together. In this book, I think that it leads one to believe that it's about something different than it really is. For example, in the beginning it's all about fun and getting out of school. Sam and Julie have nothing to worry about. They are looking forward to a great summer. They plan to have a lot of fun, until Julie's pain in her hip is unbearable because of her cancer. Its hard for Sam when the cancer takes away her best friend, so she just tries to push it out of her mind, tries to pretend its' not real. As a result, Julie's cancer has not only taken away their fun, but possibly Julie as a person too. In the end, their friendship is tested, and their will to remain like everyone else, like the others who do not have cancer. Julie and Sam will be best friends forever, no matter what comes between them.
Rating: Summary: A TIme for Dancing Review: While reading A Time for Dancing, by Davida Wills Hurwin, I came to the conclusion that life is too short and don't take it for granted. This goes with Julie and Sam because they have to face a number of problems. A Time for Dancing is an excellent book because of the plot. Julie and Sam, the main characters, face a number of problems. When Julie starts chemo it causes her not to be all their. Causing Sam to turn to other friends to talk to. For instance, Julie and Sam haven't yet realized they are growing apart. When Sam is talking to Sandra She starts to cry because Julie's not really being herself. Sam has realized that Julie's not there even though she is. After Julie hears Sam and her mom talking she realizes that she wants her life back. Causing Julie and Sam to become a little bit closer. In more ways than one, Julie and Sam face many problems through out the book. In my opinion I recommended A Time for Dancing to anyone. Rating: Summary: A fantastic book and here is why... Review: Mar.6.2002 There aren't many books out there as incredible as A Time for Dancing, by Davida Wills Hurwin. From the relationships torn from Julie's grasp, to the amazing friendships and bonds that fade over time, and all the emotions in between, no book has ever combined so many elements into such a realistic story. This book has numerous aspects of being a teen, complicated by modern day issues, formed into a story that is easy to understand and relate to. A Time for Dancing raised emotions in me to the point of where I felt like I was in the story. Throughout the story I experienced all of Julie and Sam's hope as well as despair. For example when Julie is first diagnosed with cancer (62) her whole world collapses. As I read I felt like I was right there trying to help her fight the disease. And as things progressed I was getting hopeful that her life may soon return to normal. As well as hope and strength, Julie experiences bitterness, especially towards Sam, her "One and only". When I was reading how hurtful Julie had become I could feel Sam's heart sink. In addition to Julie becoming meaner to the people she loved, I knew she was losing her hope and vitality as well. Experiencing a powerful issue through such realistic characters gave me a better understanding of the book and all the feelings being experienced. A Time for Dancing makes me imagine actually having a best friend with a life threatening disease such as cancer. Usually I don't get that involved in the books I read. This book was so compelling however that I imagined myself in the main character's shoes. It was depressing to think about such a thought. Because of Sam's bravery throughout the story though, I admired her. I could never have been so strong if I were under the same circumstances. I felt strongly for the characters in the story, such as my pride for Sam and Julie, which I think shows how realistic the story was. It is clear how great this book was, because it made me reflect on the conflict and apply it to my own life, as well as feel intensely for the fictitious characters. I have read many books in my life, not all by choice, but I have never read a book as fantastic as A Time for Dancing. This is a story I think I could reread several more times, and still feel the need to flip the page to see what happens next. If you're interested in reading a story that will unquestionably make you laugh, cry, and reflect on your own life so genuinely, I highly recommend A Time for Dancing.
Rating: Summary: a miraculous book... Review: This awesome book is about two young girls, Sam and Jules. They have been best friends for more than half their lives. They refer to each other as my one and only and they have never been apart. They go to school together, they go to every party together, they go to dance class together they go to school together, and well they do everything together. The summer before their last year of high school they start to make plans for their future: either going to college or professional dance careers or maybe both. They are prepared for everything or at least they think they are. Well at least they weren’t prepared for this. Julie’s sudden illness and its cause: diffuse histiocytic lyphoma, a type of cancer. They don’t know if the sickness will ever go away or if Julie may make it out alive. Sam, very confussed about the situation, tries to be a true friend by supporting Julie through all the doctors, tests and treatments. Because of all the pain and confusions Julie is going through it makes them separate, for Julie is not able to control her life anymore. They have to begin to accept that Julie’s cancer may not go away, and that she might possibly die. This makes the girls learn to enjoy and valuate life as much as possible. Sam tries to make Julie the old Julie, her true one and only. Whenever there is a party, Sam goes to Julie’s house, gets her ready, and takes her, even if sometimes she doesn’t want to go. This amazing novel made me go on and turn each page full of excitement, tears and desperation to know what happens to Sam and Julie. This unforgettable novel made me realize that if we have will power we can do anything. This book is beautifully written. The characters are filled with life and are fully realized. The touching dialogues in the story are authentic and make you get in to the story and make you feel that you have known the characters for a long time ago. When I got to the plot of the novel, it made me turn each pages with tears in my eye, but at the same time they filled my heart with hope for the best, the best for Julie. I recommend this book to all teenage girls, for this book is filled with emotions that you will enjoy and that you will remember always.
Rating: Summary: A Reminder of How Precious Time Really Is Review: I could not put this book down. The character of Sam and Jules won me from the very beginning. If we are lucky, at least once in our lives, we meet someone that becomes a friend and changes us forever. Like Sam and Jules. No matter how long they're a part of our lives. I didn't think I'd cry, when I started reading it. Books don't do that to me. But I cried reading this one. Davida Wills Hurwin did an excellent job. I recommend it to anyone.
Rating: Summary: A Time For Dancing Book Review by Amanda Review: (...)The author of A Time For Dancing did a very good job of using literary elements to set the mood of the story. She made Julie's situation so real that it was hard not to get teary-eyed while reading what Julie's parents, Samantha, and especially Julie must've been going through. I really enjoyed A Time For Dancing because it was a very heartwarming book that was hard to put down. If anyone would like to read what true friendship is all about, I strongly recommend reading this book that will make you "turn the pages through your tears."
