Rating: Summary: One of the best Young-Adult novels I've ever read Review: This is a book I read in my youth, it stayed in my thoughts from then on. I've since read it a dozen times and have obtained a copy for my daughter to read when she's ready. The vey adult theme of this book, combined with writing supremely accessible to a young reader, helped me to realize the power the written word contains. In short, a very powerful cautionary tale. Wouldn't mind discussing this with others.
Rating: Summary: Read it Again and Again Review: Well I was cleaning out my closet today and looking at some old stuff when I found a manual to my Escher's cube. One of the pictures on the cube is called Relativity, which was a house of stairs. All of a sudden I remembered reading House of Stairs and how great a book it was. I had read it about 5 years earlier and had forgotten about it for a long time. Although I only remember vaguely what happens, I definitely recommend that you read this book once every 5 years or so (which is what I do with many of the books like this) because you often discover things you had not seen before or had forgotten. I think this book fits in nicely with several other classics that I read this year during my spare time (most of which for the first time). These books were: Fahrenheit 451, 1984, and Brave New World, which have very similar themes. And BTW, read the Ender's Game series by Orson Scott Card, you'll definitely like it. I think I'm going to order House of Stairs too.
