Rating: Summary: The book "White Lilacs" was ok.......................... Review: I read the book "White Lilacs" for a school project, and to me the book was kind of boring except with one or two parts that made me not want to put the book down. I would recommend this book for older adelescents and not for young elementary school children. The book's comprehention was quite difficult at some parts, and unless you really get into the book it may be hard to understand. Finally, honestly the book just basically bored me, but that's just my opinion, and all of you reading this right now may have a different opinion, so if you just want to find a book that you are not expecting to be filled with action and violence, then you may like to try and take a look at this book.
Rating: Summary: A good historical read! Review: I really enjoyed this book! It was well written and gave you a good sense of what the black community had to endure. It showed that even though the black people were freed from slavery, there life was far from being equal. Sometimes it was hard to believe just how awful the white people could be. I really felt for Rose Lee throughout the book. She had to go through so much when she is only a young girl. She shouldn't have to deal with so much racisim. If you want a good historical read, this is a great book!
Rating: Summary: This was a great written book.It had a lot of character. Review: I thought this book was excellent. It told a lot about the blacks and the whites back in the early 1920's. Now most whites and blacks get along pretty well. This book gave true horrific stories about the racism between the blacks and the whites, thats one reason why I liked this book. I liked the book because it gave a lot of information that happened between the blacks and the whites. I would highly recomend this book to someone who likes history books.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book! Review: I truely enjoyed reading White Lilacs! The historical backround really got me interested. And I felt like I was part of the book! I couldn't put it down!

Rating: Summary: Never the same way again Review: I was a newcomer to a small Texas town when I read in the local newspaper about the dedication of a historic plaque in the city park, a few blocks from my home. On a blustery winter day I wandered over to that park and listened to the speeches--and learned that the park was on the site of what had once been an African-American community, from the end of the Civil War until a group of local whites decided that that particular piece of real estate was much too valuable to remain in the hands of the poor residents--a park would be a better use of the land. I dug up more details on the history of Quakertown and wrote the fictional story of Rose Lee Jefferson and her family. It's a pretty park, but I could never look at it the same way again. Not long after WHITE LILACS was published, I started work on JUBILEE JOURNEY, the story of what happened to Rose Lee and her descendants.
Rating: Summary: Good book!:) Review: This was a great book. It was not that hard to get into and was very interesting. When I read it I learened a lot of things I never knew before, about those times. It was not the best book I have ever read but it wasn't the worst either. Hope you enjoy:)
Rating: Summary: A before bed favorite, with great pictures and text. Review: Trevor the turtle is a highly relatable character for young readers. The illustrations are interesting and the text is easy to read. We have found this book especially great for bedtime as there are not too many words on each page so it keeps their attention. I wish they would publish this book again. For every child we have given Tidy Up Trevor to as a gift it has become a fast favorite!
