Summary: Happily Ever After... Not.
Review: I loved this book. It has always bothered me that Cinderella had only known the Prince for a few hours before agreeing to marry him. I kept on thinking, "What if they find out they hate each other? He only likes her because of what she looks like.", "How is she going to go from a servant to a dainty princess?", and "This is sooo historically inaccurate." I was a strange child.

In it, Cinderella realizes after going to the castle that she has commited herself to marrying a brainless man who doesn't love her and an empty, baby-making life. After realizing she will never be happy with this life, she musters the courage to do something no one has done before: say no to royalty. The book follows her quest to make her own Happily Ever After, and she truly falls in love on the way. Ella braves hardship, insecurity, and society, and by the end of the book, Ella finds happiness and she also finds herself.

After reading this book, THANK YOU. Thank you Ms. Haddix for writing a fairy tale without the Charming Prince. This book showes that Cinderella has a brain. She is perfectly capable of taking care of herself, and living happily ever after without The Guy. This book was just *so* inspiring to me. I would give it 10 stars, but I'll have to settle for the maximum.

Summary: A poor retelling
Review: I enjoy reading various versions of traditional fairy tales, from different cultures or with modern twists, and Cinderella is my favorite. But this rendering is too far off from the usual tale and loses the magic (the storytelling magic, that is - you CAN tell Cinderella successfully without fairy magic, such as in "Ever After"). While it was a reasonably interesting read, it was not Cinderella, and should not be compared with other versions such as "Ella Enchanted." Indeed, Levine has much more skill with a fairy tale than does Haddix.

Summary: A story that makes you read it over and over!
Review: This book is definatley a page turner! I am pretty obsessed with Cinderella stories Like Just Ella, Ella Enchanted and ever after! This book is full of exitment of how aa average servant girl steals the Princes heart and she thinks she loves him and they all live happily ever after right? WRONG! In this Epic tale Ella Goes to the castle where she is bogged down with manners classes and many other boring classes. About half way through the book Ella realizes 2 things! The Prince, as cute as he may be, has never made a decision on his own in his life, and that she never loved him at all! But how can she break a betrothal to a prince? It simply has never been done, until now.

Summary: Just Ella
Review: This is a really good book. There is a girl and she is just like Cinderella. Her dad dies and her "step-evils" as she calls them take over. Then she goes to the ball and loses the shoe and so on. But this is the book that tells what happens after the ball. At first she loves it but then she realizes she really does not like the princ at all. She tells him she doesn't really want to marry him and they put her in a dungeon. One night she escapes and then goes to find her friend. Lots of things happen after that. You'll have to read the book I guess.

Summary: Just Ella
Review: Just Ella takes place around the 1400's. Princess Cynthiana Eleanora or Cinderella as you probably know her, has recently become engaged to Prince Charming after spending most of her life as an unpaid servant to the Step-Evils. She is swept into palace life where she is surrounded by finery and waited on hand and foot. But, there are some downsides to being a princess. For one thing, how can she enjoy such luxury with the ever perfect Madame Bisset correcting her every flaw? And with all of the classes she is forced to take-art, needlepoint, decorum, royal family history-she has no time for fun and games. The only thing that keeps her going is the thought of her love for Prince Charming. That is, until she realizes SHE DOESN'T LOVE HIM! As you might think, he won't be happy to hear that. As a matter of fact, he's downright angry. And you know what can happen when someone with all that power gets angry. Oh, if only she had a fairy godmother to help her...

I was browsing through books when I came across Ella. It was categorized in one of my favorite genres, Fairytales, so I picked it up. Then I noticed it was by one of my favorite authors, Margaret Peterson Haddix (Running Out Of Time, Turnabout) which was another bonus. Just Ella is just an excellent book and I especially liked how the author put cliffhangers at the end of every chapter, but I do wish it had been longer. I breezed through this book in three days! I have to say it's one of the top ten on my list of classics. This book isn't your basic fairytale where there's a happy ending and the bad are punished. It leaves you hanging on, just hoping for the best.

Though I really enjoyed the overall plot, it was the main character I came to love. Ella is someone who will always follow her dreams, no matter what the cost. I wish I were like that. Throughout the book it's almost as though Ella is speaking to you and trying to encourage you. I would recommend this book to anyone who needs a little more faith in themselves, because Just Ella will give it to them.

Summary: Just Ella by Margaret Peterson Haddix 218 pages
Review: Ella, once a maid for her evil stepmother in her own house, has now found herself in the palace with Prince Charming. Throughout this book, Ella has to meet the challenge to adapt to royal life. One day, while teaching the Princess Ella the church's faith, Lord Reston has a heart attack, and Ella finds herself in a new situation, for she meets a new friend Jed Reston, Lord Reston's oldest son. Unlike his father, Jed has dreams to help all those refugees of war by setting up a refugee camp.
Ella suddenly sees now that she does not want to marry the prince. But when she tries to call off the wedding, they put her in prison. With the help of her friend Mary, Ella escapes and finds Jed.
I like this book and I would recommend it to girls who are 10 and older. It wasn't very hard to read and I enjoyed it a lot. It is a story which shows the other side of the glorious life as a royal and also teaches us how some things happen that you may not expect.

AHHHHH! Now that I've got your attention, please read my book review. The genre of this book is fantasy. When I read this book I went, "WOW!!!!" I couldn't believe my eyes because of the suspense! The book starts out when Ella goes to Prince Charming's ball and gets literally swept away by the prince-he lifts her off her feet and puts her in the carriage. The prince takes Ella to the castle, and then after a while Ella Starts to see that she never loved the prince. All she wanted was to get back at her step-evils (stepsisters) and stepmother, Lucille, by being royal property while they were living in the dust. Next, Ella told the prince that she didn't want to marry him so the prince freaked out and tied her up with ripped off pieces of Ella's skirt and had her removed to be brought to the dungeon. The rest of the book is about how she struggles with aches, pains, and sleepiness in the dungeon and how she finds the love of her life.

Next I will talk about the main characters and what they look like from my perspective. First I will talk about Ella. She is very pretty and has long light brown wavy hair Ella is very skinny, wears long gowns, and most of the time Ella is sort of iffy about her life. Next I shall talk to you about Jed. He comes in later in the book. Jed has brown hair and green eyes. He loves life right now. He is so full of life too. Madam Bissit is the next person I am going to talk to you about. She is very short, has long straight gray hair that she always wears in a bun perfectly placed on the top of her head with a tiara placed right before it. She always wears an elegant long blue dress and wears long pure white gloves with a ring that has a ruby in it on her dainty ring finger. Prince Charming is tall, has short, wavy, blonde hair and is very muscular. This is how he is described during the ball.

I really like this book. When I saw this book, I had to read it because I love fantasy books. This book is a page turner because of all the excitement. If a sequel comes out to this book I will buy it because of how much I liked the first book. When it comes out if it comes out I will be the first person at the store I guarantee that.
