Rating: Summary: THE BEST Review: this book is basically about 2 teenagers experiencing first love. Katherine and Michael meet at a New Year's Eve party, and it was love at first sight. before they knew it, they were spending a lot of time together. The book is written in Katherine's point of view, and she tells us what shes going through and whether or not shes "ready" to go all the way...it really teaches a good lesson to teens. this is a great book that will keep you reading!
Rating: Summary: my opinion Review: this book is a good book and apropriate if u r starting highschool or older, it says 12 and up but it should be like 14 and up because like the scenes in it are worse then u could see in some movies and i am 15 and i just barely felt that it wasnt wrong to read it. it has a good bunch of explicit senarios that u minght not want a younger person to read.
Rating: Summary: Not great Review: I, like most girls, only read the book for the "dirty" parts. (Which, now that I'm older, don't seem so dirty and descriptive.) I am so surprised that so many people identified with the characters. I still think they're bland and one-dimensional; I never felt for one instant that they could be real people with feelings and emotions. Although they're suppossedly in "love", we never really see them dating or falling in love. It just seems to jump straight to the sex. Another part that surprised me was how unconcerned Katharine is when she finds out her boyfriend's had VD from unprotected sex. She just seems to shrug it off. Although it was written in the 70's, the dialogue and conversations don't seem realistic either. Maybe it's just me, but I think this book could have been better.
Rating: Summary: The wrong message!!! Review: I cannot believe 12-year-olds are reading this book! This book is inappropriate for any minor, with possibly the exception of mature, responsible 16 or 17-year olds with strong moral values. I read this book as a teen and cringe now when I think about it. There is no way I will let my daughter read this book. This book portrays a very shallow relationship that is not really love at all. It gives the message that teen sex is okay if you're "in love", and no moral lessons are learned from the sexual relationship or the break-up. People keep saying this is a realistic view. All I can say is how sad for teenagers, then. Contrary to what many believe, not every teen has sex, not every teen relationship is about sex, and many feel that premarital sex is wrong. I know people who remained virgins until adulthood, many until marriage. The temptation can be great, but a better lesson would have been how to deal with the temptation in a positive manner. The girl shows no regret, not even a realization that sex shouldn't be based on feelings, because feelings come and go. Her boyfriend shows very little respect for her, and yet she has sex with him anyway. If a guy really loves a girl, he will not pressure her about sex. This book basically says it's okay for teens to have sex if they are in a relationship. That's part of what has gotten our society into the mess it's in today with fatherless children, single mothers, child abuse, etc.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Coming of Age Book Review: From the first page of the story Blume hits you realism. Throughout the story the main characters are faced with conflicts. Early on in her relationship Katherine must struggle with the decision of whether or not to have sex with Michael. Katherine must fight against her own desires and peer pressure. Katherine also has to struggle with her desires for another person as she is dating Michael. The story is told from third person point to view and because of this we are able to see everyone's true thoughts and reactions. Forever would be great for classroom use because of its realistic look at teen dating and sexuality. But, the book may also cause some controversy for the instructor and the school using it. Before using this book, the instructor should use appropriate judgment and evaluate their individual situation.
Rating: Summary: A Good Example of Adolescent Naivete Review: Judy Blume comes up with the most interesting ideas, though her usually poor writing ability fails to convey them to their uttmost potential. Luckily, this book so urgently describes teen "first love" that her writing style need not be considered. Although many have complained that the sex scenes are far too graphic, I disagree; they do not totally convey the physical realities of sexual encounters. Judy Blume effectively sanitized the sex act for her chosen parent/teen audience of readers. What the book does right is to demonstrate the shallow, extremely physical nature of a teenage relationship, and the characters' inexperienced - but changing - views on the subject of love.
Rating: Summary: Judy Blume's Forever Review: I was very impressed after reading Judy Blume's novel "Forever", a story about two teenaged lovers and the consequences of their young and inexperienced love. Kathrine and Michael, sadly, are given a lot of freedom to have sexual encounters from parents, grandparents, older siblings, etc. And you give teenagers an inch, they'll take it. Blume does write in a few of these intimate experiences, in some cases quite detailed, but therin lies some genius. These scenes give the reader the same forbidden feelings as I'm sure Kathrine and Michael have as they consumate their relationship. Without these feelings, the reader cannot catch the thrust of the theme at the end of the book. As a parent, I would not let my teenagers read this book without reading it first and then discussing my own thoughts and feelings about pre-marital sex, abortion, drug use, etc... I do believe, that if read right, the book can be used as a tool or a catalyst for such discussions. I give the book four stars because some of the sex scenes are a bit gratuitous, the two lovebirds are granted too much permission, and Kathrine's parents are a little too carefree as well as naive.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderfully Blunt and Capturing Book Review: This is an extremely blunt and realistic story of a teenage relationship. While some may say the sexual scenes are too detailed and uncalled for, they are incredibly realistic and honest. Many adults may say that it is filth, but in all honesty, Blume perfectly describes the average teenage sexual relationship. This book will hold you until the very last word and make you wish it never had to end.
Rating: Summary: Very Realistic Review: This novel is almost erotic in the sense that it's so true to life. This is what actually happens in the minds of some teenage girls, and to read about it actually happening to one that will tell us anything, without exaggeration or holding back, gives comfort and maybe a little encouragement to do what is best for the individual. One of the best books written about sex because it's graphic mostly in thoughts, not actions.
Rating: Summary: Dissapointed... Review: If I could give this book zero stars I would. Judy Blume definetly crosses the line in this book. It has a pretty good plot, but the steamy parts, which there are three, really damage the book in my eyes. I have seen KIDS reading this book, and I am dissapointed at Judy's writting. Although, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I am just stating mine!
