Rating: Summary: mad poetry Review: The voices are powerful and the stories moving. The characters' lives are difficult and sometimes scarred by tragedy, and yet the book as a whole is very uplifting. Knowingly or not, these kids live the beauty beneath the suffering. Their pain is transcended by their love of life and for each other. Eric is the best example of this -- I cannot even think of him without my eyes moistening. In my mind this book is clearly for an adult audience as well as for young adults. It's the best thing I've read in at least ten years.
Rating: Summary: love. courage. compassion. Review: There is no easy way out for the reader. Everything is unveiled. If you can't take the reality of this book then you aren't living in the real world. Teenagers talk differently then adults, they do things differently. Teenagers live different realities. In "Life is Funny" the reader gets a sampling of these. Some are sad, sweet, and tragic. But at the end of this book I felt uplifted and full of hope. Love, true love, can change reality. Romantic love is special but true love for a sister, brother, mother, friend is what gets us through our lives. We need each other.
Rating: Summary: Yeah, Funny. Review: This book is so amazing. It deals with today's major problems, from divorce to drugs to sex to depression. It shifts from character to character for a greater perspective of life. From the lovable "Gingerbread" to the sadistic Monica, every character seems so real and true, you can't imagine them as just characters. Everyone could relate to this book in some way, well worth reading.

Rating: Summary: A masterful debut Review: This is a spectacular novel, a masterful debut for writer E. R. Frank. The characters are vivid, memorable, and moving. The writing is original and bold. The narrative has both mind and heart.Life is Funny should engage readers across a wide range of the reading spectrum.
Rating: Summary: This book is one every young adult should read Review: This is a wonderful book that I think all teenagers can appreciate because you can relate to it so much. I myself live in Brooklyn, and the characters are so realistic they remind me of my friends when we hang out. The author is able to tackle tough situations with light-hearted words taht will make anyone laugh, or cry.
Rating: Summary: Wow..... Review: This is my favorite book; and I don't say that lightly. I have read hundreads of books, and this one is one of the best that I have ever read. It is told through the eyes of 11 Brooklyn teens. It sounds like it could get confusing, with all of the different points of view, but it flows really well. During the course of seven years, these teens go to the same middle/high school, and intertwine in and out of each other's lives. You get to know and love each of the characters like they were your best friend. There's Sam and Grace, who were lucky enough to be born beautiful. There's the fierce Eric, whose life is so hard and so realistic that you just want to break down and cry. My favorite part of the book? The language that frank uses. Some examples: "Someday I'll move to Greenland. My mother's marbles would go well there. And all you'll find is pure, uncluttered peace." And another: "Why do you laugh so much?" Keisha asked Gingerbread. "Because Life is Funny," he responded. This poingant and moving novel will have you laughing out loud and in a sea of tears by the time you finish it. Although the language can get a bit rough at times (which makes it even more real) I would suggest it to all teens, because each of us can relate to all of the characters in some way.
Rating: Summary: Life Is Funny Review: This may be my favorite book. It was full of excitment, energy and everything else in between. I felt like I was actually involved in the story and couldnt wait to know what was going to happen next.... This book was so engaging. Sometimes It made hysterical laughing, sometimes hysterical crying. it is a fabulous book, although I would not recommend it to anyone under 12 ...it contains very rough language and some explict scenes. But even so, It remained true to life. It wasn fake which is the most inportant part of a book. It was so raw and so real. Read Life Is Funny, its a fabulous book.
Rating: Summary: BEST BOOK EVER Review: This phenominal illustration of young people coming of age serves as a platform for change. All the positive feedback is true and it shows that just because we as people feel different, and come from different cultures and spaces, we still experience the same conditions that link us humanly. To deny the beauty of this book, is to read it blindly. It changed my perception and all do respect goes to this author.
