Rating: Summary: A MAGNIFICENT WILDERNESS SURVIVAL STORY Review: THIS BOOK WAS A WONDERFULLY PIECED TOGETHER SURVIVAL STORY. BRIANS ADVENTURE WAS DESCRIBED IN SUCH GREAT DETAIL THAT I FELT LIKE I WAS ACTUALLY IN THE WILDERNESS WITH HIM. THIS AUTHOR IS ONE OF THE BEST WRITERS OF STORIES FOR YOUNG ADULTS. I HAVE READ ALL OF HIS BOOKS AND ENJOYED EVERY ONE OF THEM. THIS IS IMPORTANT TO ME BECAUSE I DON'T LIKE TO READ MUCH AND I THINK HIS BOOKS ARE EXQUISITELY WRITTEN. PLUS THE PART ABOUT THE MOOSE IS REALLY COOL AND VIVIDLY DESCRIBED.
Rating: Summary: The Best Book I ever read!! Review: The part I liked best was when Brian killed the moose because Gary Paulsen really gave a lot of detail. He also decribed what was going on the main part of the time in the book very well.
Rating: Summary: Good Book! Review: Imagine you had to survive in the freezing cold temperatures of Northern Canada. So cold that when you spit, your saliva froze before it hit the ground. This is what Brian Robeson had to do, in the novel Brian's Winter. Brian is the same 13 years old protagonist who remained in the wilderness. This is the second sequel to Hatchet. He is still located in a coniferous forest, where he crashed, in Hatchet. The most important conflict of this book is for him to stay alive in the wilderness during the hard winter. I think this is a very good book. I liked the plot because it stayed at a steady pace, and was exciting. I couldn't wait to see what would happen in the next chapter. One other reason I liked this novel is because it was full of adventure that made me feel like I was right there, with Brian. My only complaint was that the ending seemed too choppy and abrupt.
Rating: Summary: Adventurous, full of action, and exciting!!! Review: Brian's plane crashes on an abandoned island! No one within over 100 miles. How does he survive? After making two bows, six arrows, meeting a pack of wolves twice, metting a bear twice, getting a roommate(a skunk), killing many rabbits, killing a deer, being trampled by a moose, and rebuilding his shelter five or six times, Brian gets rescued. I think this book is made to be read by a sixth grader and is outstanding. I highly recomend this book if you enjoy camping and adventure.
Rating: Summary: We thought that he kind of left you hanging in the end. Review: We really liked Brian's Winter. We wanted to know more about his dad because he was talking all about his dad but his dad was never in the book. Our favorite part was when he finds the survival kit. This was great because we were waiting for a part like that to happen. The River was a good sequel to Brian's Winter because it kept the pace going. We want another sequel to the River. We want to know more about Brian. We want to know how Brian got back to his house from the river. Avid Fans: Brian R., Ryan C. and Elijah J.
Rating: Summary: Great Review: if you want to read Brians Winter you have to read Hatchet in hatchet brian has a plane crash in the middle of Canada and has to survive and he gets rescued.Brians Winter is about if he didn't get rescued.
Rating: Summary: THIS IS A GREAT BOOK Review: If you have read " Hatchet " then your love this book . It's got it all ! If there where more books to make a series than I would be able to sleep .
Rating: Summary: This is one of the best Gary Paulsen books yet!!!!! Review: This is the sequel to Hatchet and is very well written. It is about the scenario that Brian is not rescued. He must begin to use his bow and arrow again because his gun breaks. He eventually finds tracks in the snow and follows them to find a trapper. It is all in all a very good book except I recommend that you read the book, Hatchet before you read the book, Brian's Winter because gives you a better perspective on Brian's position.
Rating: Summary: Not the best, and too unbelievable Review: Hatchet for me was a little hard to like at first. After reading it twice,I finally could give it 4 stars. This book,Brian's Winter, shows what would happen if he hadn't been rescued. But i didn' t think it was so good because it is quite unorganized. The first page pretty much review's what happened in Hatchet and doesn't start right where hatchet left off.It did show more survival qualities from Brian but it wasn't believable.Anyone out in the woods in winter for that long would come down with the flu.Thats what would happen in reality, not in Paulsen world. So many things happened to him in this book, anyone in real life would have at least been bleeding a bit.Overall a good buy but read Hatchet first and then make your decision to see which one is better.By the way,you best not waste your money on The River.Nothing compared to Hatchet.
Rating: Summary: 12 year old from KY says YES to Brian's Winter Review: The only character in this book is Brian. He is a thirteen year old boy. In the book Hatchet, he gets lost in the woods of Canada. Well thats what happens in this book only, he returns on his own, in my book Brian's Winter, the sequal to Hatchet. Now he has to do it all over again, survive. The title is Brian's Winter, the author is Gary Paulson, writer of the award-winning Hatchet. The minute you open this book you know it is by Gary Paulson, because he is a adventrous writer. He discribes every scene like it is the end of the book. You can just see Brian cutting through the deer or the burning fire, it is incredible. In this book Brian tries to survive in the Canadian winter, hunt for food, start fires, everything from A to Z. Reling on insticts and intellegense, he must go on, winter or no winter. This book has many strengths, if I tried to tell them all, I would be here all day, but I'll list a few. It has great desription as you read, and the way Gary Paulson writes it seems as if you are there. Here is a quote I especially liked, "It will be here when you get back, we'll keep the soup hot". What does this mean, where is Brian going, does he get back okay? You'll just have to read it.
