Rating: Summary: This book was really great and I love Gary Paulsen!! Review: I loved the book Brian's Winter, I will probably read it again! The author is a wonderful authur and I love reading his books! Brian's Winter was about Brian if he wouldn't of gotten rescued and I really enjoyed it, Gary Paulsen made it so I wanted to keep reading and never stop!:)
Rating: Summary: Interesting reading for young minds Review: My 10 year old son has recently discovered reading as a hobby thanks to his wonderful 4th grade teacher. She has been reading this series in class to her kids and he has basically begged me to purchase the series for him. I have not seen this much enthusiasm from him lately about anything except Nintendo. We have been reading the stories to each other and we have been hooked on the topic. The story line is exciting and action packed. The only complaint that I have is that some of the hunting scenes are a little too gruesome and descriptive for my taste. Nonetheless, I would hightly recommend the series to any child looking for adventure.
Rating: Summary: pretty good but stick with Hatchet Review: i thought brians winter was an okay book...but hatchet was much better. B.W. was kind of predictable and the ending was horrible! I think paulsen could of thought up a much more exciting ending if he really wanted to. Altogether the book was alright but it was no Hatchet.
Rating: Summary: 5 STARS. NOT EVEN 10 STARS Review: I LOVED THIS BOOK!! IT WAS REALISTIC LIKE HELL!! MAN, I COULD READ THE BOOK 20 TIMES! GREAT SURVIVAL STORY, AND IT WAS JUST INCREDIBLE!! I CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF IT! GARY PAULSEN DID A MAGNIFICENT JOB ON THIS BOOK. EVERYONE SHOULD READ IT WHO ARE INTERESTED IN THESE TYPES OF BOOKS.FABULOUS!! WHEN I WAS DONE THE BOOK, I FELT LIKE I WAS DONE A 600 PAGED BOOK!WHAT A SENSATION!!!! NOT ENOUGH WORDS TO DESCRIBE THE BOOK!!! EXCELLENT.WONDERFUL, AND ALL THOSE OTHER WORDS FOR WHAT A GREAT BOOK THIS IS. TREMENDOUS!!!!!!!!!!!! =-) =-) =-) =-)
Rating: Summary: He should have stuck with Hatchet Review: This book was okay, but not nearly as good as Hatchet. It was very predictable, very undescriptive, and had the worst ending of any book I have ever read. I got to the end and thought, "Huh? That's it? That's ALL?" If you want a sequel to Hatchet that's worth reading, get The River and pass this one up.
Rating: Summary: This is an excellent adventure story for junior high boys! Review: This book offers an alternate ending to Paulsen's previous book, Hatchet. The story disregards Brian Robeson's rescue in Hatchet and continues his story of survival in the Canadian wilderness. Brian has found a survival kit on the plane that gives him more than just a hatchet to use for survival. However, Brian still has to be creative in finding ways to survive. His days are filled with hunting, gathering wood, and doing what it takes to survive. When Brian realizes winter is quickly approaching, he knows to survive the winter he must have shelter, warmer clothes, and food. Brian begins to make preparations for the coming of freezing weather. Brian must also survive encounters with many wild animals, such as wolves, bears, elks, and even a skunk. While many things go wrong, Brian continues to learn from his surroundings, and uses that knowledge to survive. Readers will find Brian creative and his adventures in the wild fun to read. While this book will probably be mostly enjoyed by boys, it can be enjoyed by girls, too. The best recommendation I can give, perhaps comes from my 13 year old son, who rarely reads for enjoyment. He only reads when the book totally captures him. He picked up Brian's Winter while stuck in the backseat of the car during a two hour trip and began to read it. He kept saying, "Mom, this book is really good!" I had to make him give me the book, so I could get it read and reviewed for a class assignment. That tells me this is a book that is worth reading and is an excellent book to keep in my classroom library.
Rating: Summary: pretty bad Review: I THINK THIS BOOK WAS OK BUT IT WAS NOT REALALISTIC SO IT WAS PRETTY BAD
Rating: Summary: an appetizer for adventure Review: A bone needle, rabbit lacing, knife, hatchet, clothes these are tools Brian needs to survive his deadliest chalenge yet WINTER! At first Brian is haveing a good time, but then things start to get a little chilli. One morning Brian wakes up to here the sweet sound of silence.Brian automattically knows something is wrong for he dose not here the sweet sound of the morning birds. When he goes to relive his bodily fluids hr realizes something is terribly wrong. It has been colder and have been having constant rain storms. Then it hits him like a ton of bricks winter is comeing. He is not prepard for what is ahead of him. I really found this book interesting. I would recomend this book to any one who likes adventure and has read the book hatchet and liked it.It was very adventurous and enjoyable. I think it would be good for young kids to teach them about the wild and what it is like in the canadian wilderness.
